The Yankees took the Nashua Babe Ruth League championship with a 4-3 win over the Pirates. With the score tied 1-1 after three innings, thanks to strong efforts from starting pitchers Tyler Vertabedian of the Pirates and Mitch Coy of the Yankees, the Pirates took a 3-1 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Yankees leadoff batter Michael Rogers doubled, took third on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Quadros and scored on an infield error on Tyler Watkins’ ground ball. Larry Lassiter walked and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Noah Ouellette drove in ttwo runs with a single to right.

In the seventh, Yankees relief pitcher Rogers got Michael Muchemore on a warning track fly ball to center, Jack Barnes on a ground ball to short and a pop fly foul ball snared by Nick Perkins to end the game.

Barnes led the Pirates offense with three hits while Perkins had two. The Yankees were led by Ouellette with two hits with Josh Oldro, Rogers, Coy and Quadros each with one. Rogers picked up the win in relief.

The Yankees advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win over the Indians. That game featured a great pitching matchup between the Yankees’ Larry Lassiter and the Indians’ Connor Mulally.

Lassiter ended up allowing only one hit for the victory. The Yankees had two hits each from Mike Rogers, Mitch Coy and Cam Stockman, who also drove in two of the runs. Jeremiah Latham had the only Indians’ hit. Defensively, Yankees left fielder Nick Stockman threw out a runner at home in the seventh inning.

The Yankees opened the City Tournament with a 2-0 win over the Red Sox. Watkins, Yankees starting pitcher, and Lassiter in relief combined for a no-hitter. A seventh-inning rally by the Red Sox was quieted by a Lassiter to Watkins to Tyler Bernard double play.

Spencer Bergeron was the hard luck losing pitcher. Offensively, the Yankees were led by Lassiter, Oldro, Quadros and Coy.

Other key players for the Yankees were Connor Coy, Jake Oldro and Anthony Paquin.

Soccer

US Club Soccer has sanctioned the Granite State Youth Soccer League (GSYSL), the largest competitive soccer league in New Hampshire that includes U-8 through U-19 boys and girls divisions as well as opportunities for younger age groups through the Early Developmental Player Program (EDP).

“After considerable research, we felt that US Club Soccer best matched the principals of the Granite State Youth Soccer League,” said GSYSL Chairperson Byron Phinney. “One of the most important things that we liked was the idea that soccer is best served by the local organizations and clubs.”

The affiliation with US Club Soccer will allow GSYSL to continue its growth and provide new programs for its member clubs. Among other programs and benefits, members will be able to participate in the National Cup, US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship competition, as well as state championship events. Additionally, US Club Soccer’s tournament sanctioning program allows member clubs to host tournaments with no sanctioning fee.

US Club Soccer also offers the id2 National Identification and Development Program and Player Development Programs (PDP), both of which are Olympic development programs as approved by the United States Olympic Committee and U.S. Soccer Federation and operated at no cost to participants.
