Middle school street hockey

In middle school street hockey playoff action last week at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN), the top two seeds from Nashua Catholic Junior High and Elm Street Middle School won their matches and earned the right to play for the championship of the Nashua Police Athletic League (PAL) Middle School Street Hockey League.

Co-sponsored by Nashua PAL, BGCGN, and the 21st Century Foundation, the league features teams from each of the Gate City’s public and Catholic middle schools.

Nashua Catholic, the top seed, battled a determined team from Pennichuck Middle School. Pennichuck kept it a close game for much of the afternoon, but ultimately the squad from Nashua Catholic won by a count of 6-1.

In a battle of two teams that were even throughout the regular season, Elm Street won a fast-paced battle over Fairgrounds Middle School by a score of 9-2. Nashua Catholic and Elm Street will meet to determine the league championship in a game that promises to be full of action.

Elm Street: Noah Sullivan, Bryan Chilvers, Shadrack LaCombe, Derek Chiavelli, Jason Amaral, Terianna Cantone, Christopher Constant, Shawn Bourassa, Tyler Webster, Zach O’Neil, Joshua Barron, Jordan Ayotte, Michael Beaudette, David Drew, and Julio Santiago.

Fairgrounds: Brian Covey, Dakota Rieck, James Parker, Tyler Crocco, Allan Godfroy, Anthony Godfroy, Abby Smith, Colin Lambert, Dan Mitchell, Seth Bridge, Dawson Fortier, John Whalen, Matt Lamarch, and Trevor Frobury.

Pennichuck: Adam Gagnon, Aidan Gillis, Noah Jenkins, Michelle Larivee, Brian Montminy, Mina Morcos, Brandon Muraca, Evan Soucy, and Jason Warren.

PAL dinner set for June 27

Renowned sports journalist, TV personality and author, Dan Shaughnessy will headline the second Nashua Police Athletic League Award Dinner on June 27 at Conway Arena.

Shaughnessy will be named PAL’s Man of the Year. The event, which runs from 6-9 p.m., also will recognize local sports journalists, PAL athletes, volunteers and coaches. Organizers hope the evening will be a significant fundraiser for PAL, which provides coaching and mentors local youth athletes.

Local journalists of the year awards will be presented for print and broadcast.

PAL will recognize youth athletes of the year in football, boxing, cross country and cheerleading. A PAL coach of the year and volunteer of the year will also be named.

The program also will include a silent auction

Tickets to the event are $75 apiece or $500 for a table of eight and can be purchased at Conway Arena or by phone at 603-595-2400.

NE Catching Camp

The New England Catching Camp reports that there is still space available for our 13th annual NECC Summer Camp.

This year there will again be two sessions to choose from. The four-day, 16-hour camps will be held from July 22-25 and Aug. 5-8. This camp has drawn hundreds of both baseball and fast pitch softball catchers from all over the world over the last 12 years.

NECC will offer a session for player’s ages 8-12 from 8 a.m.-noon and ages 13-18 will meet from 1-5 p.m. daily.

The camp is once again scheduled to be held at Lions Field in Hudson.

The camp will focus on all the skills needed to excel at the game’s most demanding position.

The sessions will include training on receiving, blocking, throwing, all fielding skills, as well as proper stretching and conditioning.
