The Southern NH Cavaliers Mite team came out strong, getting a 7-4 win over the Waltham Hawks Mite A1. Karenna Beckstein netted the first of the game assisted by Will Dodge. The defense of Sinead Macaraeg, Michael Spinazzola, Patrick Sehulster and goalie Matthew D’Ortona shutdown the Hawks. Forwards Evan Doughty and Sal D’Amico forechecking kept the offensive drive alive. Stephen Toom combined with Kelci Waters putting the Cav’s up 2-0. Toom finished the first period scoring unassisted, extending the Cavs lead to 3-0.

The Cavaliers continued their strong offensive push. Jesse Gertz broke in with a pass from Toom putting the fourth goal on the boards, and just minutes later, Gertz’s efforts from behind the Hawks’ net found Toom tallying a hat trick. The Hawks, down by five, started their move scoring too. The physical play picked up and the Cavaliers found themselves on a power play. Will Dodge scored on the power play unassisted, ending the second 6-2.

In third period action, the Cavs’ Jake Dodge and Macaraeg used the neutral zone to get the puck to the offense of D’Amico and Will Dodge. D’Amico assisted on Dodge’s second goal of the game, widening the lead to 7-2. The Hawks refused to quit and scored two more, but it was not enough.
