Seventh grade Nighthawks win championship

The seventh grade Nighthawks captured their second consecutive title in the Merrimack Valley Basketball League.

In the quarterfinals Nashua defeated Tewksbury (Mass.) 59-32. Alonozo Linton had a great game with five rebounds, five steals and 14 points. Xahn Frater, Razz Alkalay, and Yanis Nyantenji controlled the boards. Sky Boykin and John Paul Champa were both instrumental on defense and caused several turnovers.

In the semifinals the Nighthawks defeated Methuen (Mass.) 77-54. Boykin scored 31 points to lead the Hawks. Frater also had a very strong game and collected 16 points and eight rebounds. Collectively, Alex Amigo, Joshua Reader, Mathew Franco, Clayton Medling, and Jay Patel worked hard on the glass and on defense.

In the championship game, Nashua defeated Reading (Mass.) in a complete team effort. The Nighthawks, as a team, had more than 25 rebounds and 18 steals. Nyantenji led Nashua with 12 points, followed by Boykin (10) and Champa (nine). The Nashua defense once agin played a big part in the victory. Amigo and Frater caused several turnovers, while Alkalay controlled the boards. This was a great season for the Nighthawks.
