Nashua wins Elementary championship

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN) wrestling team won the New Hampshire State Elementary School Wrestling Championship on Sunday at South High School. Over 150 youth wrestlers in grades K-4 from 13 different clubs and communities competed in the event in three division:

Kindergarten (not included in team scoring), first-second grade and third-fourth grade. Nashua scored 97 points, edging out runner up Salem Boys and Girls Club and Newport Parks and Recreation to capture the title.

The Nashua squad’s individual state champions included Wyatt Reeves, Mateo Torres, Robert Perez, Mickey Mathson, Jack Harrington, Liam Finn, Teddy Moscatelli, Zach Rioux, Ian Deluca, and Henry Burns. Other place winners from the Nashua team included: Kindergarten: Marty Burns – fourth place; Emanuel Perez – third place; first grade: Joseph Savino – fourth place; Brayden White – fourth place; second grade: Andrew Lovell, Toby Brackett, Aidan Sullivan and Finn Mullaly – all second place; third grade: Juan Torres and Troy Moscatelli – both fourth place; fourth grade: Paul Trombi, Caleb Humber and Dylan McIntyre – all second place.

Nashua Catholic wins Thibault title

Nashua Catholic Jr. High won the city middle school wrestling by placing first in the team scoring at the seventh annual Mark Thibault Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 28 at Nashua South. Sponsored annually by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN) , the Thibault Tourney pits BGCGN’s three p blic middle school wrestling against each other and against Nashua Catholic for the coveted Thibault Cup, named for late Nashua High School wrestling standout Mark Thibault. Thibault was a four-time state champion, member of the Boston Globe All Scholastic team of 1988 and 1989 and the 1989 USA Today All-American wrestling team.

After serving for the United States Marine Corps as a member of one of the elite Special Forces, Mark moved to Alaska and became a sea captain and operated fishing boats in the Bering Sea. On Octo. 11, 2002, Mark was lost at sea when the boat he was captaining broke up and sank in a raging storm in the Gulf of Alaska.

Nashua Catholic edged defending 2012 champion Fairgrounds Middle School to capture the title. Second-place silver medalists included Owen Finn, Elm St.; Seyvon Soto, Pennichuck; Matt Krattman, Pennichuck; Nick Quadros, Fairgrounds; Owen Mooso, Fairgrounds; Cam Nixon, Fairgrounds; Rafeal Lopez, Elm St.; Anthony Forgione, Pennichuck; Nathan Zalzal, Fairgorunds; Eric Cruz, Pennichcuk; Garrett Hillard, Elm St.; Tim Rosco, Elm St.; Hunter McLaughlin, NC; Xavier Coro, Pennichcuk; and Wayne Nollette, Pennichuck.

Third-place bronze medalists finishers were CJ Lavoie, NC; Christian Santos, Elm St.; Trevor Froberg, Fairgrounds; Rafy Urena, Elm St.; Evan Soucy, Pennichuck; Parker Latham, Fairgrounds; Juan Rivera, Pennichcuk; Zahara Castalia, Pennichcuk; Eddie Reyes, Pennichuck; Saul Pascual, Fairgrounds; and Deja Clark, Pennichuck.
