The Cavaliers played a strong defensive game in the first period. Defenseman Chase Devins, Jack MacEachen, Patrick Sehulster and Michael Spinazzola, holding the Melrose, Mass., offense out of their zone. The back checking of Jesse Gertz and Kelci Waters and Evan Doughty help goaltender Matthew D’Ortona fend off any clear shots on net.
Will Dodge Started the scoring unassisted just 47 seconds into the second frame. Melrose would score twice heading into the
third. Jake Dodge, Sal D’Amico helped get things rolling with great puck control along the boards. Stephen Toom would score two unassisted goals, putting the Cav’s back on top 3-2. Karenna Beckstein scored off a rebound with just under 4 minutes left in the game.
The Melrose offense would not give up, scoring twice on two break-in shifts ending the game 4-4.
