Cavs lose a close one
In Valley League youth hockey action the Southern NH Cavaliers Pee Wee 1 team displayed an impressive performance but came up short against Newburyport in a 3-2 loss.
The Cavs TJ Vitullo opened the scoring early in first period off a feed from linemate Damien Barahona. However, Newburyport netted two tallies to close out the period with a 2-1 lead. The game was a defensive battle for a large portion of the second period, with the Cavs defensive units of Alec MacEachen, Maddy Pitre, Sean Kelly and Max Porter showing great poise in their own zone.
At the end of the second, Newburyport netted a goal with under a minute to play, but the Cavs were not done. With just 12 seconds remaining in the period Barahona hit Vitullo with a break out pass, which Vitullo he quickly fed to linemate Max Sears who netted the goal to make the game 3-2.
Cavs second forward line Joe Roth/Nic Miller/Austin Ciszek helped keep the pressure in the offensive and neutral zones and in the third period, but could not find the back of the net.
