Manchester Flames in Vermont tourney

The Manchester Lady Flames turned up the heat in St Albans, Vt. last month when the U14 girls team attended the 2013 Rail City Challenge.

First up was the West Island Royals from Montreal Canada, a 10-1 win. Kristen Perras led the team in scoring with a hat trick. Two goals each were scored by Madison Allard and Taylor Dudek. Other scorers of the game included Jillian Valcourt, Shannon Lambert, and Emma O’Neill. Assists came from Danielle Dalton, Maggie Fifield, Katherine Cerato, Ashlyn Brown, Spencer Neville, and Jordyn McFadden.

The Flames then topped the Essex Stingers of Vermont 1-0. Goalie Lauren Calnan stood strong and resolute denying the Stingers at every turn. The only goal of the game came in the second period from Kristen Perras assisted by Jillian Valcourt and Spencer Neville.

On the same day, the New Hampshire girls defeated the hometown team of St. Albans 3-1. Jordyn McFadden and Jillian Valcourt scored while assists came from Kristen Perras and Madison Allard.

Next, the Flames met the Royals again and won 4-1. Goals came from Jillian Valcourt, Spencer Neville, Kristen Perras, and Taylor Dudek. Emma O’Neill and Jillian Valcourt assisted.

In the finals, the Flames topped St. Albans again 3-1. The Flames drew first blood with a goal from Maggie Fifield five minutes into the game, assisted by Shannon Lambert. The Flames scored in the second period thanks to Jillian Valcourt, assisted by Ashlyn Brown and Emma O’Neill. After St Albans answered with a goal, an unassisted shot on the net from Maggie Fifield iced the win.

Goalie Lauren Calnan tended the net for all five encounters stopping dozens of shots each game, allowing four goals in five games.
