MITE: Cavaliers 11,
Agawam (Mass.) 8

Karenna Beckstein and Michael Spinazzola’s push in the neutral zones started the offensive drive. Beckstein maneuvered around Agawam’s defense to sent Will Dodge in for the goal.

Agawam charged right back and netted two goals to end the first 2-1.

The second period was an offensive shoot-out. Stephen Toom combined with Spinazzola early in the second to put the Cav’s within one. Agawam came right back to keep the lead up 2. Toom and W. Dodge would score a total of 5 more goals between them, each netting a hat trick. The second period ended Cav’s on top 7-5.

Opening up the third, the line of Jake Dodge, Jesse Gertz and Sal D’Amico worked hard to continue the offensive blitz, but Agawam’s back checking wouldn’t allow a clean shot on net. Toom netted an unassisted goal mid way thru the third.

Agawam mounted a comeback scoring twice, cutting the lead to 8-7. The defensive stability of Evan Doughty and Chase Devins and Jack MacEachen along with a game altering save by Goalie Matthew D’Ortona proved too much for Agawam’s late surge. Toom would score again unassisted for his sixth of the game. Late in the third, Beckstein’s determination behind Agawam’s net would be rewarded with an unassisted goal.

Agawam and the Cav’s would each score again; W. Dodge and J MacEachen would combine for the final goal of the game.

PEEWEE: Cavaliers 6 Acton-Boxborough (Mass.) 3

Alec MacEachen, Maddy Pitre, Max Porter, Sean Kelly and Joe Roth controlled the Cavaliers’ offensive blue line and also shut down Acton-Boxborough’s transition game. Cavaliers forward lines of Isaac Rogers/Austin Ciszek/Damon Barahona and T.J. Vitullo/Nic Miller/Max Sears were dominant throughout the game. Ciszek netted a hat trick for the Cavs with his final goal coming off a pass from Rogers, allowing Ciszek to tip the puck past the opposing goalie. Rogers had a goal and two assists, while Vitullo and Sears had a goal and an assist each.

PEEWEE: Danvers (Mass.) 2, Cavaliers 0

Danvers broke a scoreless stalemate in the second period, slipping one past Cavaliers goalie Ben Goolsby late in the second period. Cavs defensemen Max Porter, Alec MacEachen, Maddy Pitre and Sean Kelly played well, keeping the opposing team off balance. The Cavs’ front lines of Isaac Rogers/Damien Barahona/Joe Roth and T.J. Vitullo/Max Sears/Nic Miller peppered a tough Danvers goalie, but could not slip one by. The Falcons netted the clincher with about one minute to play, despite a strong final push by the Cavs.

PEEWEE: Cavaliers 6, Masco (Mass.) 0

Isaac Rogers was on fire – everything he threw at the net found its mark – netting five goals for the Cavaliers.

T.J. Vitullo scored the Cavs other goal, while Alec MacEachen had two assists in the win.

Forwards Max Sears, Nic Miller, Maddy Pitre, Joe Roth, Damien Barahona, Austin Ciszek, Vitullo and Isaac Rogers were cycling the puck back to the points perfectly. That’s where Cavs defensemen Sean Kelly, Max Porter, Nick Gould and MacEachen dominated the play.

SQUIRT: Cavaliers 5, Waltham (Mass.) 3

Joshua Salsman started the scoring early for the Cavaliers with a first period goal, followed by a goal from Anthony Viola, who was on defense and went end to end. The defense was strong against Waltham with the defensive pairings of Torin White/Jackson Gates and Viola/Dylan LaLiberte. Goalie Colin MacDonald was also up to the task, stopping multiple chances from the Waltham offense. During the second period, Cole Giersch scored with an assist by Paul Vachon. Gates had his own long rush, taking the puck from the Cavs’ blue line and finding his way to the Waltham net. He went top shelf, glove side to beat Waltham’s goalie.

In the third period, Waltham came back within one goal, making the score 4-3 Cavs. The offensive group of Peter Lennox, Thomas Kelly, Mathew Lynch, Joshua Salsman, Vachon and Giersch proved too much for Waltham as Giersch finished the scoring with his second goal off a Vachon feed.

BASKETBALL

Nighthawks

5TH GRADE: Nighthawks 48, Haverhill (Mass.) 24

The Nighthawks defense dominated the boards with 40 rebounds as a team. The defense was led by Stav Akalay with 10 rebounds and two points and Yassine Jakib with seven rebounds and five points in the game.

The Nighthawks’ offense was a collaborative effort with every player getting in the scorebook.

Brenden Choate (10 points, five assists), Jordan Bodwell (eight points), Ivan Nyantenji (seven points), Emeka Okorie (four points), Andres Hulfachor (four points), Joey Buturla (three points), Brad Deitrich (two points), Toby Therrien (two points) and Xarrack Crater (one point) all chipped in on the offensive end in the win.

JUNIOR MITES
(3rd/4th grade)

Co-ed: St. Chris Green 14, Resurrection 2

St. Chris Green improved to 3-0 in the Jr. Mites division with a 14-2 victory over Resurrection.

David Dow (six points), Spencer Labreque (four), Trevor Labreque (two) and Quinn Mansperger (two) delivered offensively for St. Chris.

MITES (5th/6th grade)

Girls: Infant Jesus 20,
St. Chris Green 14

The St. Chris Green girls, led by the four-point efforts of Kirsten McIntire and Brianna Defelice, were on top at the half only to watch Infant Jesus take control in the second half on its way to victory.

Boys: St. Chris Green 37, St. Joseph 7

Davis Camacho and Murray Mahoney led a balanced scoring attack for St. Chris with eight points each, while teammates Chase Nickerson (six points), Andre Laplante (four) and Alex Williams (four) contributed offensively in the win. Matt Connor and Ian Connolly were outstanding under the boards, and Sean Michael led St. Chris in assists.

Boys: St. Chris White 17, St. Patrick 13

St. Chris White got off to a strong start and maintained a solid lead throughout the first half, but the determined St. Patrick squad made it much closer in the second half. Leading St. Chris scorers were Joseph Kenosian (six points) and Manny Mendoza (five), who had plenty of help from a strong backcourt and powerful rebounding from the big men to seal the win.

CADETS (7th/8th grade)

Boys: St. Chris 52, PMA 23

The St. Chris trio of Joe Guidinoni, Mason Dane and Jared Levesque dominated inside, allowing Tommy Ethier and Andre Laplante to sink open shots from the perimeter against Presentation of Mary Academy.

Boys: St. Chris 62,
Resurrection Black 42

Ronnie Silva led the way offensively with 24 points for St. Chris, which evened its record at 2-2 with a victory over Resurrection Black. Grant Coy got things started for St. Chris with the first three hoops on fast breaks.

Tommy Ethier drove the lane hitting several runners, while Sam Martin contributed with seven points, including a 3-pointer. The front three of Guidiboni, Dane and Pelletier delivered another dominating performance for St. Chris.

Levels 4-10 strong
at Judges Cup

Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 4-10 competed in the Judges Cup Sectional Meet the weekend of Dec. 7-9 at Brentwood Commons. Gymnasts needed an All-Around score of 33.00 to qualify for States.

Level 4 (Age 7)

Megan White had an all-around score of 36.2 (3rd place); she scored a 9.05 (7th) on vault, 9.25 (1st) on bars, 9.2 (1st) on beam and 8.7 on floor.

Level 4 (Age 8)

Lindsey Campbell had an all-around score of 34.4 (7th place); she scored a 9.25 (3rd) on vault, 8.7 (4th) on bars, 7.4 on beam and 9.05 (4th) on floor.

Level 4 (Age 9)

Nithya Arun had an all-around score of 34.625 (4th place); she scored a 9.05 (4th) on vault, 8.45 (4th) on bars, 8.1 on beam and 9.025 (2nd) on floor.

Level 5 (Flamingo Division)

Cristina Cross had an all-around score of 31.7; she scored an 8.15 (8th) on vault, 7.5 on bars, 7.75 on beam and 8.3 on floor.

Sue Mai White had an all-around score of 32.475; she scored an 8.35 (6th) on vault, 7.3 on bars, 8.1 (8th) on beam and 8.725 (4th) on floor.

April Koczalka had an all-around score of 33.1; she scored an 8.175 on vault, 8.05 (8th) on bars, 8.55 on beam and 8.325 on floor.

Annika Sinclair had an all-around score of 33.7; she scored an 8.375 (5th) on vault, 8.4 on bars, 8.45 on beam and 8.475 on floor.

Tryouts, camps scheduled

The NH Grizzlies/Team NH Baseball has openings for their 2013 teams (14s and 15s). Individual tryouts will be held during the month of January. Email teamnhbaseball@comcast.net for times and dates.

There are also two camps scheduled for Dec. 29 – a pitching camp for baseball pitchers ages 9-11 from 9-11:30 a.m. and individual pitching evaluations for high school pitchers from 1-5 p.m. Both sessions are run by former Boston Red Sox farmhand Kyle Jackson and former college pitching coach Mike Jackson. Space is limited to 15 pitchers for the morning camp and appointments are needed for the high school session. Pre-register at teamnhbaseball@comcast.net or call 577-1772.
