SNH Cavaliers 7,
Waltham (Mass.) 3

The Southern New Hampshire Cavalier Mites improve their record to 8-3-1 beating the Waltham (Mass.) Hawks 7-3.

Will Dodge started the scoring at 9:40 of the first period with a beautiful feed from wing Karenna Beckstein. The Hawks would come right back and tie the game 1-1. The offensive line of Evan Doughty, Kelci Waters and Sal D’Amico kept the pressure on. Waters, not giving up, found her own rebound to net her first goal of the season with one second left in the period.

The Cavaliers’ defense was led by Matthew D’Ortona (4-0-1) performance between the pipes, while defensemen Jake Dodge, Michael Spinazzola, Chase Devins and Jack MacEachen won the battles deep in their own end while setting up the offense on decisive breakout plays. The second period went back and forth, with D’Ortona making several key saves to keep the game close. The Cavs netted one goal with a magnificent tip-in by Karenn Beckstein assisted by Jesse Gertz. The second period ended 4-2.

Beckstein continued her scoring, unassisted, to open up the third period. Gertz, Will Dodge and Beckstein controlled the puck in the Hawks’ end, peppering the Hawks goaltender. Will Dodge found the back of the net with a remarkable backhanded shot assisted by Beckstein.

Gertz’s unrelenting hustle earned him an assist on Will Dodge’s hat trick to put the Cavs up 6-3. The Cavs finished the game off with Will Dodge netting his fourth goal with great team work and an assist by Beckstein.

NH East 4, SNH Cavaliers 2

In Valley League youth hockey action, the Cavaliers turned in an outstanding team performance but came up short in a 4-2 loss to the New Hampshire East Eagles.

The game was close with the Eagles up 1-0 at the end of the first period. The Cavs continued to battle back and were down 2-1 midway into the second, with a nice unassisted goal by Isaac Rogers. However, the Eagles notched two more late in the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Cavs defensemen Maddy Pitre, Sean Kelly, Alec MacEachen and Max Porter turned back several Eagles opportunities in the third period, while goalie Ben Goolsby made a number of key saves, preventing the Eagles from widening the margin.

Cavs’ forwards T.J. Vitullo, Max Sears, Isaac Rogers, Damien Barahona and Joe Roth had good puck movement but could not generate shots on the Eagles goalie. With under a minute to go, Vitullo hit linemate Sears with a breakaway pass, however Sears was hauled down from behind to set up a penalty shot. Sears displayed great composure stick-handling beating the Eagles goalie, to make final the score 4-2.

Swampscott/Salem 4

The Cavaliers were on the move during this game with a strong offense and defense. Jackson Gates, Cole Giersch and Dylan LaLiberte scored in the first period and again in the second period as the Cavaliers pulled away.

The defense made up of Gates, Anthony Viola and Torin White kept the Swampscott/Salem team away from the net with good solid back checking.

The third period was all Cavaliers as Gates and Giersch completed a hat trick each with other goals by Paul Vachon, Joshua Salsman, Viola and another goal by LaLiberte. Cavaliers goalie Colin MacDonald had another great performance in net.

JUNIOR MITES (3rd/4th grade)

Co-ed: St. Chris White 10,
Resurrection 8

Trailing 8-2 in the fourth quarter, St. Chris rallied to tie the game 8-8, falling just short at the end, in what proved to be a thrilling game between two evenly-matched squads. St. Christopher’s offense was led by Ava Therrien and Sam Dufoe with four points each.

MITES (5th/6th grade)

Girls: St. Chris Green 14,
St. Anthony 12

St. Chris was a force under the boards, working hard to limit St. Anthony’s scoring opportunities. Grace Wilson, Nicole Yeaton, and Hayleigh McDuffee were tenacious on D for St. Christopher, with Sophia Lathram (10) leading the scoring effort.

Girls: St. Chris White 27,
Resurrection 25

Rebounding and strong defense by O’Neill Galinson and Danielle Pascucci kept St. Chris in the game against a strong Resurrection squad. Grace Lambert sparked the St. Chris defense, while Peyton Ryan (10 points) and Lizzie Croke (eight points) were out in front for St. Chris offense.

Bedford Jamboree

St. Chris topped the Nashua Nighthawks fifth graders in the Bedford Jamboree AAU tournament 49-25.

Matt Thibeault (16 points) led the scoring, and Andre Laplante, Joseph Noon and Davis Camacho played solid all-around ball throughout the tournament. St. Chris went into the Thanksgiving break with a 5-1 record.

Aggressive rebounding on both ends of the court and solid defense contributed to the St. Chris victory over St. Joseph in the last minute of the game. Manny Mendoza (eight points) and Jackson Lewis (four points) led the St. Chris offensive charge.

CADETS (7th/8th grade)

Resurrection 52

In the season opener for St. Chris, Resurrection jumped out to an early first-half lead before St. Chris stormed back in the second half to take the lead. Down by one in the last minute, two St. Chris layups rolled off the rim allowing Resurrection to seal the victory. Joe Guidiboni performed well against Resurrection’s bigs, before getting some help from Mason Dane in the second half. Ronnie Silva (17 points) and Patrick McCarthy (11) led the way offensively for St. Chris.

Levels 4-10 at Local Qualifier

Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 4-10 competed in the 360 Local Qualifier on Sunday 11/18/2012 at 360 Gymnastics in Shirley, Mass. Gymnasts needed an All-Around score of 31.00 to qualify for Sectionals.

Level 4 (Ages 6-8)

Lindsey Campbell had an all-around of 35.75; she scored a 9.1 on vault, 9.1 on bars, 8.7 on beam and 8.85 on floor.

Megan White had an all-around of 33.5; she scored an 8.2 on vault, 8.4 on bars, 8.45 on beam and 8.45 on floor.

Level 4 (Age 9)

Nithya Arun had an all-around of 35.1; she scored an 8.95 on vault, 8.8 on bars, 8.6 on beam and 8.75 on floor.

Cloe Rivest had an all-around of 33.85; she scored an 8.5 on vault, 7.9 on bars, 9.1 on beam and 8.35 on floor.
