Led by goalie Ben Goolsby’s play between the pipes the Cavaliers turned in an outstanding team performance and notched another victory in Valley League Youth Hockey action.
The Cavs’ defensive unit of Alec MacEachen, Max Porter and Sean Kelly did an excellent job, preventing Danvers from making any significant offensive threat. While the Cavs forward lines of Isaac Rogers/Maddy Pitre/Nic Miller and TJ Vitullo/Max Sears/Joe Roth did an excellent job controlling the neutral zone. The Cavs’ first goal was by Maddy Pitre with Porter and Miller assisting on the play, while Isaac Rogers netted the second goal picking up a rebound off a shot from Pitre.

Lynn (Mass.) Comets AA 1
The Cavaliers were on the scoreboard early with a goal by Cole Giersch and a second quick goal by Paul Vachon. The Lynn Comets responded with a goal making the score 2-1. The Cavs then reacted by putting up a goal by Anthony Viola assisted by Matt Lynch at the end of the 1st period. The defensive trio of Dylan LaLiberte, Collin McDonald and Joshua Salzman played strong throughout the game. The second period started strong for the Cavs with a second goal from Vachon and Viola, giving the Cavs a 5-1 lead at the end of the two periods. Viola scored again starting the third period, completing the hat trick, while Jackson Gates and Torin White kept the pressure on the Comets with a relentless forecheck. Thomas Kelley denied multiple Lynn opportunitiesin net. With seconds left in the third period, Matthew Lynch scored his first goal of the year giving the Cavs a 7-1 victory.
FOOTBALL
Nashua Elks
6th Grade: Crusaders 39,
Plymouth Huskies 7
The Crusaders controlled the line of scrimmage and scored five of their six touchdowns on the ground on their way to a big win over the Plymouth Huskies and a 5-0 record.
Jaylan Pacheco scored three TD and two extra points. The Crusaders also collected two TDs from quarterback Andrew Penkala. In addition to the touchdowns, the offense also received strong runs from Casey McNally, Brendon Frost, Jake Robbins (extra point run) and Gabe Perrault. Perrault and Penkala also hooked up for a 25-yard pass completion in the first quarter. Once again, the Crusaders offensive line was dominant and received excellent games and blocks from Zach O’Neil, Brandon Martin, Braden McDonnell, Josh McElligott, and Justin Arnesen.
As the score indicates, the Crusaders’ defense was active all afternoon and received big plays from Mark Lagasse (fumble recovery), Jacob Babb (fumble recovery) and Jeffrey Allen (TD-saving tackle). Additionally the final touchdown of the day came on a fumble recovery in the Plymouth end zone from Cole Desmond. Nashua also received multiple-tackle games from Alex Fortier, Nathanael Tejeda, Pacheco, Robbins, McDonnell, Martin, O’Neil, McNally and Perrault.

Goffstown Eagles 2
Severen Johnson, Anthony Tappan and Zachary Proulx pulled flag after flag, effectively shutting down Goffstown’s offense. Johnson also pulled a flag on Goffstown’s 1-yard line, stopping them short from getting a touchdown and tying the game. Bradie Paladino, Jevon Anson, and Maurice L’Heureux’s effective blocking helped Nashua push through the line, with Travis Spencer, Broden Landsteiner, and Bailey Landsteiner each running into the end zone for touchdowns.
4th Grade:
Plymouth 15, Crusaders 12
Crusaders veteran Curtis Harris led the offense with two touchdowns with the help of Tyler Armeen, QB John Sullivan and Alex Ortiz, who all had some very strong runs. Nick Gosselin, Liam Bourque and Chris Keefe also contributed to the Crusaders strong offensive runs. The defense was led by Harris, Ortiz and Keefe who came up with a huge fumble recovery for the Crusaders. Nashua’s Armeen recovered an onside kick with 2:36 remaining in the fourth quarter out ran out of time with the ball on the 10-yard line. Josh Taylor and Colby Spencer were also strong on the defensive side of the ball.
5th Grade: Crusaders 28,
Franklin Falcons 0
Once again Nashua’s defense came up big, shutting down the Falcons and holding its opponent scoreless for the third time this season to improve the Crusaders record to 3-1. The defensive effort was led by the line play of Zach Hureau, Brad Deitrich, Charlie McKelvey and Yassine Jakib. Linebacker Jake Lopes notched his first interception of the season while Colin Keavey, Zach Gauthier, Mike Robbins, Ryan Rutstein, Joey Buturla and Zach Berthiaume had multiple tackles to stop Franklin.
The offense saw a balanced scoring effort with touchdowns from Buturla, Rutstein, Robbins, Jordan Bodwell and Ben Levine.
Hollis Brookline
Varsity: Junior Cavaliers
win third straight game
HB pitched its third shutout of the season on its way to a third straight win. Offensively, the Cavs had over 100 yards passing and 100 rushing. The bulk of those yards were from a 65-yard touchdown pass from Michael Allanach to Stephen Gianconia – it was a hook up that Epping could not find an answer for. There was another touchdown thrown from Ryan Carr to Colin Loftus on a nice out pattern. The ground game was led by tailback Brian Delaney with over 100 yards rushing and a touch down. Defensively HB had a interception returned for a touchdown by Gianconia and middle linebacker Brian Delaney led the team with tackles.

Flag: Force Blue 2,
Nor Rock Vikings 1
Nashua PAL Force Flag Blue squared off against the Nor Rock Vikings at home on Sunday in a close game. In their opening drive, the Vikings were stopped in their tracks by a strong defensive combination of Jack Peters, Brady Sullivan and Brady Borromeo. Jayce Cora ran the reverse on the next play to score NPF’s first touchdown. After halftime, a heroic run by Damon Clark for a first down and a nice gain by Luke Peters set up the Force for a touchdown pass from Johnny Canaway to Jack Peters. Solid defensive effort by Xander Delaney helped hold the Vikings to a single touchdown.

Milford Mustangs 1
Nashua PAL Force Flag White took on the Milford Mustangs iat Stellos Stadium winning 4 to 1. The Force White were able to hold the ferocious Mustang offense to a single touchdown with huge defensive efforts by John Barry, Ryan Forcier and Jayden Allen, who spent a lot of time in the Mustang backfield, and interceptions by Derek Finlay. On the offensive side, Reid Lavoie and Kassy Allen had a great game paving the way for Toby Brown to reach the end zone. Jack Krulikowski drove the ball up field on a strong run. Derek Finlay and Nick Digesse would also reach the end zone on running plays and Digesse to Finlay passing play.
3rd grade: Force 27,
Franklin Falcons 7
Andy Barry ran the opening kickoff back to set the tone for the day while Charlie Bellavance ran the second TD in behind the blocking of Riley Bean, Ariyan Cora, Brian Melendez, Jacob Moore, Jessy Allen, Christian Mosteiro and Zaeden Crocker as Nashua improved to 3-1 on the season.
Patrick Keegan ran the first extra point in behind Xavier Francis and completed Nashua’s first pass of the season to Barry for the second extra point. Defensively the Falcons were overmatched with Dylan McDermott, David Simpson, Devyn Lavoie and Charley Mewkill feasting on the Falcons ball carriers.
On Nashua’s next possession Isaac Smith ran the ball hard and Barry broke away for a score. Dylan Homsy ripped off big yards on the ground along with Matt Oliver scoring a TD and catching a pass from Barry for the final extra point.
5th Grade: Force 33,
Franklin Falcons 0
Robby Long had 2 TD runs and 2 PAT conversions.Andy Deutschlander had 1 TD run and 1 PAT conversion. Donovan Labate had a TD run and Andy Deutschalander had a pick six to cap off the scoring. Logan Mathewson also had some nice runs. Nashua PAL offensive standouts included: Christian Ayala, Dominick Gentry, Jacob Sansoucie and Matt Hallahan opening big holes on the offensive line. Defensive standouts included Adam Little, Aiden Bashor, Chris Acevedo, Kyle Krolikowski, Max Ackerman, Sam McElliott and Neo Helin. Game Captains this week were Robby Logan and Andy Deutschlander.
6th Grade: Laconia 33, Force 0
Nate Nugent and Tyler Gagnon managed to bring down some Chiefs for some tackles. Logan Boucher rifled down the field on the Chiefs kick return for a tackle. Running gains were made by James Mackenzie, Aidan Gillis, and Austin Ouellette. J.J. Fiore passed the ball for a completion to Michael Gillespie for a short gain. Andre Laplante returned a third quarter kickoff that gave Nashua good field position. Nashua’s Ryan Sheehan did a great job defending against the Chiefs holding them off and never letting them knock him down. Standouts on defense included Nevan Roy, Vinny Priore, Justin Cardullo and James Mackenzie. Tyler Gagnon and Nate Nugent had some great tackles. PAL water boys Rocco Ciardi and Joey Mackenzie kept the team hydrated throughout the game.
JV: Goffstown 48, Force 0
Johnny Michelin threw for 100 yards for the day with Bobby Brown catching five of those passes for 80 yards but unfortunately Nashua PAL could not capitalize to get into the end zone. Game captains Johnny Michelin, RJ Jenkins and Alex White kept the team fighting hard during the entire game. Shining moment for the defense was their ability to force an interception this week.
Varsity: Eagles 40, Force 6
Nashua PAL went to Goffstown and had a tough game. Pat Borromeo scored a 40 yard TD pass from Jared Levesque. The defense had a hard time this week. Great pass coverage from Sammy Mena, Justin Anderson, Enrique Alvarez and outside containment from Josh Roy and Jose Melendez.. Trey Legraw and Mason Dane chipped in with a QB sack. Max Fay, Aj Vitali and Josh Roy had many rushes for great yardage gain. The O and D lines consisting of Dane, Legraw, Fin Littlefield, Austin Rancourt, Joey Allen, Matt Esquivel, Dakeeme Campbell, Devon Brazil, and Alex White played with heart.
BASKETBALL
Nashua Nighthawks
New 4th/5th grade girls team included in Oct. 13 tryouts
The Nashua Nighthawks are holding tryouts Saturday at Girls Inc. (27 Burke St., Nashua).
Boys tryouts will run as follows: 3rd/4th grade from noon until 1 p.m.; 5th grade from 1-2:30 p.m.; 6th grade from 2:30-4 p.m.; 7th grade from 4:30-5:30 p.m.; and 8th grade from 5:30-7 p.m. The new 4th/5th grade girls team will hold tryouts from 11 a.m. until noon.
All players, boys and girls, must live in Nashua. There is a tryout fee of $20 (to cover gym rental expense) with a maximum fee of $25 per family.

Nashua Boys and Girls Biddy Basketball registration forms are now available online at www.gonashua.com, City Hall, all public schools, Nashua Public Library, Bright Spots, Jeannotte’s Market or the Park and Recreation Department office at Greeley Park.
All Players, whether new to the program or returning to a team, must fill out the form. There is a $20 registration fee. Your child’s age will determine which form to fill out.
Girls and Boys Junior Biddy: must be 7 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 10 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Oct. 19).
Girls and Boys Biddy: must be 10 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 13 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Oct. 12).
Girls Senior Biddy: must be 13 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 18 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Nov. 2).
Boys Bantam: must be 13 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 16 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Nov. 2).

scheduling tryouts
The Nashua Baseball Academy is scheduling tryouts for 2013 baseball teams. Tryouts are by appointment and will be held at the Hollis training facility at 265 Proctor Hill Rd. The NH Diamond Devils have openings for the 10U, 11U and 12U Cooperstown teams. The NH Knights have openings for the 13U and Senior Knights (ages 15-17) levels. Athletes must be able to play two different positions and have all star experience. Ages are determined on May 1, 2013. Athletes will play a spring and summer baseball schedule, train over the winter and participate in a travel tournament. The Diamond Devils play their home games in Nashua and the Knights play their home games at Academy Field in Hollis.
