4th grade: Windham 13,
Crusaders 12

The Nashua Crusaders fourth graders suffered their first loss in two seasons, falling 13-12 to the Windham Wolverines.

Quarterback John Sullivan and running back Curtis Harris led the offense with one touchdown each, while Jason Compoh had some very strong runs. The defense was strong behind Harris, Compoh, Alex Ortiz and Sullivan, who had a game changing interception. Brandon Metivier, Chris Keefe, Tyler Armeen, Ben Wiehl, Ryan Noke and Nick Gosselin all contributed to the hard-hitting Crusaders defense.

6th grade: Crusaders 28,
Windham 0

The Crusaders sixth graders improved to 3-0 with their win over Windham. The Nashua defense continues to play impressive football, and has only allowed 6 points over three games. The defense was highlighted by two touchdown saving tackles. The first by Jeffrey Allen who caught a Windham receiver at the 5 yard line and forced and recovered a fumble. The second big play was made by Brendon Frost who chased and caught a Windham running back approximately 40 yards. Nashua also received multiple tackles from Andrew Penkala, Jaylan Pacheco, Jake Robbins, and Branden McDonnell. Also playing well were Gabe Perrault (pass defense), Casey McNally (sack), Josh McElligott, Alex Fortier, Cole Desmond, Nathanael Tejeda, Mark Lagasse, Jacob Babb, and Quincy Cotto.

On offense, the Elks controlled the game and clock with a stable of running backs, including Pacheco, McNally, Frost, Perrault, and Robbins. Nashua received touchdown runs from Pacheco (2), McNally, and Frost. The Crusaders also flashed glimpses of an emerging passing attack, as Penkala and Robbins hooked up for a 30-yard pass, and attempted two other down field passes. The offensive line protected the quarterback and created large running lanes all afternoon. The line received solid performances from Zach O’Neil, Brandon Martin, Justin Arnesen, McDonnell, and Pacheco.

Similar to the two previous contests, the Crusader’s special team unit was led by McElligott who booted two extra points. The unit also received a solid return from Penkala and tackles from Pacheco and Martin.

Derry Demons 1

Nashua’s Johnny Canaway ran the ball behind the truck sized hole made by Brady Sullivan on the first play and then Canaway reached the endzone two plays later. Jack Peters played great defense, grabbing an interception and running it back for a touchdown on Derry’s first offensive play. In the second half, the NPF Blue defensive powerhouse led this week by Luke Peters and Damon Clark held the Demons to a single touchdown. Brady Borromeo had a long 3rd down run for a first down and to set up Jayce Cora for a touchdown. Zander Delaney debuted at center, easily handling the wet conditions on the field getting the ball to the QB every time.

Flag: Goffstown 2, Force White 1

Nashua PAL Force White had another close game this week against the Goffstown Screaming Eagles. The opening drive saw powerful runs by Reid Lavoie and Kassy Allen to set the team up in great field position. On the next play, NPF White showing their breadth of abilities ran the reverse – handing off from Reid Lavoie to Nick Digesse who sold sweep before giving the ball to Derek Finlay who was able to run into the endzone behind the skillful blocking of Jayden Allen. John Barry anchored the defense holding the Goffstown offense to only two touchdowns.

3rd grade: Keene 20, Force 0

NPF lost a close battle to the Keene Knights 20 to 0. The Force defense was anchored by Charlie Bellavance and Bobby Canaway who shut the outside lanes down while the trio of Andy Barry, Zaeden Crocker and Ariyan Cora played stingy defense up the middle. Scoreless until late in the first half, Keene recovered a fumble and marched in for a score. Nashua responded with Isaac Smith almost breaking the kickoff return followed up by strong runs by Matt Oliver and Patrick Keegan behind the blocking of Bryson Borromeo, Dylan Homsy and Dylan McDermott. With seconds to go in the half, Jacob Moore, Devin Lavoie, Xavier Francis and Ethan Paquin stuffed the Knights offense for three straight losses. With one timeout left, Keene ran the last play of the half and scored. The Force rumbled back behind pancake blocks by Jessy Allen, Christian Mosteiro and Brian Melendez. Charley Mewkill, David Simpson and Drew Sheehan set up shop in the Keene backfield and kept the Knights from scoring late.

5th grade: Keene 26, Force 0

Nashua PAL Force met up with Keene at Stellos Stadium this week. Nashua PAL game captains included: Logan Mathewson, Neo Helin, Chris Acevedo and Christian Ayala. Offensive standouts included: Robby Long who completed a long pass to Gavin Belesca. Gavin Belesca, Robby Long and Andy Deutschlander all had nice runs during the game. Kyle Krolikowski, Chris Acevedo, Christian Ayala, Jacob Sansoucie, Adam Little and Dominick Gentry played well on the offensive line. Defensive standouts included: Robby Long who intercepted a PAT attempt. Donovan Labate and Sam McElliott played well at Defensive End. Logan Mathewson, Neo Helin, Andy Deutschlander and Gavin Belesca were solid at LB. Tyler Desrochers, Max Ackerman, Matt Hallahan and Aiden Bashor stood strong on defensive line. Nashua PAL takes on Windham next week.

6th grade: Keene 6, Force 0

In the first quarter, Nashua defense stopped Keene’s drive with some great defensive plays by Michael Gillespie, Nevan Roy, Garrett Hillard, Justin Cardullo, Nate Nugent, and Aiden Gillis. The offensive line took the field and Nate Nugent received the handoff and ran the ball 2 yards past Keene’s defense. Neven Roy disrupted Keene’s offense by intercepting the ball and running it down the field for a 20 yard gain. Keene came on strong in the second quarter and was able to manage a touchdown past Nashua’s defense. Nashua’s defense then denied Keene the extra point. On offense during the 2nd quarter, Nashua gave the ball to Andre Laplante who ran the ball 20 yards in one play and another 5 the very next play. On defense, James Mackenzie held off Keene with one final tackle to the Keene offense in the second quarter. Nashua’s offense came on strong with JJ Fiore running the ball 24 yards in 2 plays during the 3rd quarter. Keene’s offense came on strong and ran a passing play that was disrupted by James Mackenzie who intercepted the ball. Nashua’s offense then had momentum going forward with Justin Cardullo, JJ Fiore and Nate Nugent all running the ball towards Keene’s end zone. Keene got the ball back but Tyler Gagnon held them off from advancing. Nashua came on strong in the 4th with a short gain by Justin Cardullo. Defensively Nevan Roy, Andre Laplante, Nate Nugent,Garrett Hillard and Griffin Dane all held back Keene’s offense throughout the game. Nashua completed two great passing plays late in the game dished out from JJ Fiore to Nate Nugent adding up to a gain of a combined 28 yards.

JV: Force 40, Monadnock Mountaineers 16

Nashua game captains Johnny Michelin, RJ Jenkins and Alex White led this team through a hard fought game to an impressive victory. Schyler Boykin had 5 touchdowns with 225 yards rushing. RJ Jenkins had one touchdown with 138 yards rushing. Bobby Brown had seven receptions and one touchdown for a total of 70 yards, along with Alex Mallor who rushed for 45 yards and one touchdown. Nashua PAL’s offense was outstanding across the board with Johnny Michelin throwing for 90 yards on the day with two touchdowns. The entire defense was on the move all day long and had executed their plays to perfection. They accounted for recovering three 3 fumbles during the game.

Varsity: Monadnock 6, Force 0

Nashua traveled to to Monadnock and played an amazing game. Jared Levesque threw several completions to Pat Barromeo, Max Fay, and Joshua Roy. Solid running came from the backfield of Josh Roy, Enrique Alvarez and Max Fay. Nashua PAL executed several first downs during the first half . A solid run by Max Fay got Nashua to the one yard line but it was called back from a penalty and Monadnock held strong going into the half. Jared Levesque had a 50 yard punt that rolled out to the one yardline to pin Monadnock deep. The defense line consisting of Trey Legraw, Oscar Velasquez, Joey Allen, Devon Brazil and Dakeeme Campbell had a great day holding strong. Jose Melendes acquired a scramble sack and AJ Vitale came away with a fumble recovery caused by Enrique Alvarez and Jared Levesque. Great outside coverage by Jose Melendez and Enrique Alvarez. Nashua PAL takes on the Nashua Elks @ Stellos next week.

Hollis Brookline

JV: Jr. Cavaliers 6,
Monadnock Mountaineers 0

Hollis Brookline JR Varsity Cavs get their first win of the year beating Monadnock 6-0 in a defensive game right to the end. The Cavs scored in the third quarter to break the 0-0 tie. The touchdown was set up by a long reception to Colin Loftus and finished with a 1-yard run by Ryan Carr.

Stephen Giaconia kept the field position moving back to the Monadnock side of the field with long runs, an interception and booming punting. In this defensive struggle it was a real key to the game.

The defensive line took over making many tackles behind the line of scrimmage led by Kevin Bergeron, Evan Sutton, Ryan Clark, Alex Mckelvery and Colin Loftus.

Indoor League

Registration for two
PAL teams on Sunday

The Nashua PAL Force is starting two teams to compete in the New England Indoor Football League for the 2012 season. Registration for fifth/sixth and seventh/eighth grade teams is taking place during Sunday’s Nashua Elks Crusaders-Nashua PAL Force game at Stellos Stadium. The cost is $145 per player. Practices start the beginning of December with two practices a week then at the end of January go to one day a week with games on Saturday nights. Valley League

PeeWee: Groton 5, Cavaliers I 2

In Valley League Youth Hockey action, the Cavaliers were defeated by crossboarder rivals Groton, 5-2.

The Cavs were up 1-0 at the end of the first on a nice goal by Isaac Rogers off an excellent pass from linemate Maddy Pitre.

Heading into the third period tied at 1-1, it looked like the game was going to be a battle to the final seconds, however, Groton jumped out and netted three quick goals.

The Cavs did not give up and continued to battled back, with Max Sears netting a goal off a breakout pass from T.J. Vitullo. However, the Cavs could not find the magic to tally another.

Boys, girls registration underway

Nashua Boys and Girls Biddy Basketball registration forms are now available online at www.gonashua.com, City Hall, all public schools, Nashua Public Library, Bright Spots, Jeannotte’s Market or the Park and Recreation Department office at Greeley Park.

All Players, whether new to the program or returning to a team, must fill out the form. There is a $20 registration fee. Your child’s age will determine which form to fill out.

Girls and Boys Junior Biddy: must be 7 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 10 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Oct. 19).

Girls and Boys Biddy: must be 10 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 13 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Oct. 12).

Girls Senior Biddy: must be 13 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 18 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Nov. 2).

Boys Bantam: must be 13 by 8/1/12 and cannot be 16 until after 8/1/12 (registration deadline is Nov. 2).

New England’s premiere fastpitch softball organization is look for the following: three U10 players, three U14 players, two U16 players and three U18 players. Nashua Academy
scheduling tryouts

The Nashua Baseball Academy is scheduling tryouts for 2013 baseball teams. Tryouts are by appointment and will be held at the Hollis training facility at 265 Proctor Hill Rd. The NH Diamond Devils have openings for the 10U, 11U and 12U Cooperstown teams. The NH Knights have openings for the 13U and Senior Knights (ages 15-17) levels. Athletes must be able to play two different positions and have all star experience. Ages are determined on May 1, 2013. Athletes will play a spring and summer baseball schedule, train over the winter and participate in a travel tournament. The Diamond Devils play their home games in Nashua and the Knights play their home games at Academy Field in Hollis.
