KidSports Baseball: Nashua South finishes fourth in Cal Ripken 11s Regional
Nashua South’s quest for a New England Regional title ended in a respectable fourth-place finish.
New Milford, Conn., collected its third consecutive regional championship. Nashua South lost its opener to New Milford, 15-3. Stephen McLendon took the loss for South. The offense was led by hits from Robby Pavlas and Kavim Bhatnagar.
South bounced back against crosstown rival Nashua North with a 7-3 victory. Brendan Auriana got the win. Chris Haley (two hits) and Gabe Perrault (two RBIs) led the team offensively.
South then defeated the Massachusetts champs from Northbridge, 10-2. Zach Finkelstein tossed a two-hitter and collected 10 strikeouts. The offense was lead by Andrew Penkala, Bhatnagar and Finkelstein (grand slam) with two hits each.
South was eliminated from the tournament by the Connecticut champs from Newtown, 3-0. McLendon pitched well and struck out five in defeat. Owen Mooso, Perrault and Finkelstein had hits for South. Sam Malignaggi, Casey McNally and Seth Bridge also played well for South during the tournament.
