U14 Tournament final: Nashua 5, Keene 4

Connor Baldassaro’s base hit in the eigth inning brought home the winning run to give Nashua the 5-4 win over Keene in walk-off fashion. Mike Kernan got the win in relief of Sam McCarthy who pitched a solid seven innings, striking out six. Nashua got key offensive production from Spencer Bergeron, Mike Habibi, Colby Gunter and Mike Kernan as well.

Nashua moves on to the Regional tournament in Winooski, Vt., which began Saturday.

Cal Ripken

11-year-old Tournament: Nashua North 8, Quintown North 0

The Nashua North 11-year-old All-Stars opened State tournament play in Merrimack Thursday night with an 8-0 victory against Quintown North. Nashua was led by Tony Gallinaro, who pitched a complete game while allowing only one hit and striking out nine.

Gallinaro also came through at the plate with a double and a single. Tyler Downing scored twice and was solid defensively at short. Hits by Anthony Forgione, Will Brooks and Andrew Frost contributed to the scoring.

Nashua came out strong in the first inning, scoring four runs on a couple of walks and a two-run single by Anthony Forgione that scored James Bolton and Tyler Downing. Gallinaro hit a net double and Brooks drove him home with a hit to make it 5-0.

Gallinaro drove in two to push the lead to 7-0, while Andre Laplante scored in the top of the sixth with a hit by Andrew Frost to round out the scoring.

North next plays Sunday at 3 p.m. against Dover.

Nashua South Wins SVI U11 Tournament

The Nashua South U11 All-Stars won the Southegan Valley Invitational Tournament by finishing 5-0, capped off by a four-inning triumph in the finals over ConVal. Zach Finkelstein held ConVal hitless and recorded six strikeouts. The offense was led by Sammy Malignaggi’s two doubles, including a walkoff, three hits from Finkelstein and hits from Owen Mooso, Seth Bridge and Gabe Perrault.

Nashua South opens up the Cal Ripken U11 State tournament on Friday July 20th against Londonderry in Merrimack.

In the semifinals South defeated Londonderry 11-8. Stephen McLendon pitched well and received offensive support from Perrault (two hits) and Finkelstein (3 for 3) who hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

In Game 3 Nashua beat Swanzey 17-2 to qualify for the championship round. Andrew Penkala and Robbie Pavlas played well in the win.

In Game 2 South beat ConVal 3-0. Brendan Auriana pitched a no-hitter. Chris Haley had a two-run double to bolster the offense.

In Game 1 South beat Milford 10-0 behind the pitching of McLendon and Kavim Bhatnagar. McLendon also had two hits to lead the offense.

SOFTBALL

Merrimack Flames win minors division title

The Flames won the Merrimack Minors Division championship with a 7-4 win over the Diamond Gems.

The game against the Gems was a duel between pitchers that lasted eight innings, and was finally decided in the top of the eighth when the Flames scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead. The Gems only managed to score one run in the bottom of the frame for the 7-4 final.

Members of the Flames are: Alyssa Paquette, Melinda Rolls, Lauren Lojko, Theresa Twardosky, Julia Valluzzi, Chloe Kapsambelis, Lindsay Rolls, Haley Smethurst, Ainsley Owens, Rhylee Ashford, Ashley Drew, Nicky Migneault, Megan Bliss, coach Melissa Kapsambelis, coach Jim Valluzzi and coach Perry Kapsambelis.
