Babe Ruth Playoffs

Tigers win second-straight championship

Championship:

Tigers 3, Red Sox 2

The Tigers fell behind, 2-0, in the top of the first inning after pitcher Tom Highland walked three batters in the frame, but they responded with a run off an RBI single from D.J. McCord.

The Tigers tied the game on a Ryan Penkala double to score Phillip Justvig. Highland then helped his own cause when a single put him on base, eventually landing on third before scoring on a wild pitch to put the Tigers ahead for good at 3-2.

Coached by Bill Barry, Shannon Dunn and Jim Shea, the City Champion Tigers roster is made up of Trevor Deane, J.J. Dunn, D.J. McCord, Owen Shea, Owen Miller, Alex Parrott, Philip Justvig, Jeremy Ouellette, Ryan Penkala, Robby Holbrook, Tom Hyland, Will Barry and Brett LeBlanc.

Third Round:

Tigers 8, Red Sox 4

J.J. Dunn was solid on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out 13 and walking just four for the win.

Penkala led the way offensively, going 2 for 4 with a double. Robert Holbrook also chipped in at the plate with a double on a 2-for-3 night.

Second Round:

Tigers 2, Reds 1

Highland took the mound for the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Trailing 1-0, Penkala tied the game on an RBI double, and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

Mike Habibi had a strong offensive game for the Reds, going 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs

First Round:

Tigers 13, Pirates 2

J.J. Dunn tossed a no-hitter for the Tigers and allowed a pair of unearned runs with four walks and 11 strikouts.

Highland led the way for the Tiger offense with a 3 for 3 showing that included two RBIs. Penkala (3 for 4), Dunn (2 for 3) and McCord (2 for 4) also chipped in at the plate.

win division championship

The Hudson Cyclones finished in second place for the season but heated up in the postseason, beating the first-place Thunder for the division championship.

Ashley Silva and Erin Beals pitched a flawless game to cap off a strong season. They wouldn’t have been able to do it without the great defense in the field and great offense by every player on the team.
