CENTRAL AAA

Orioles win City Tournament

The Nashua Central AAA Orioles defeated a tough Nashua South AAA Rockies team 10-0 in the second game of the championship series to clinch the title.

The Orioles came to Drescher field June 20, ready for the challenge that lay in front of them. The Orioles got two runs in the bottom of the first through patient hitting and excellent base running by Jimmy Reel and Varun Lingadal. Lingadal and Shaan Quereshy pitched four scoreless innings, combining for seven strikeouts and allowing just one base runner.

Leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Orioles finally started putting the at-bats together. The patience of all the hitters combined with some lucky bounces in the field allowed them to score eight runs in the inning and end the game 10-0 under the four-inning mercy rule. Some notable hits were a two run single by Kenny Reel, run scoring singles by Sam McElliott and Jackie Curtin and a walk off, game-clinching single by Varun Lingadal.

The Orioles were undefeated in the City tournament until the Rockies defeated them 2-1 in a hard fought game June 19. The Rockies had fought their way through the one-loss bracket to get to the Championship game, setting up a one-game playoff for the City title.
