Punt, Pass, Kick event showcases young talent

Children from the Derry Demons, Londonderry Wildcats, Monadnock Mountaineers, Hollis/Brookline Jr. Cavaliers, Hudson/Litchfield Bears, Nashua Elks and Nashua PAL Force participated in the annual Nashua PAL Force Punt, Pass and Kick event.

SOUTH MAJORS

Orioles 8, Phillies 4

Matt Savoia came up huge at the plate and on hill to lift the Orioles to an 8-4 win over the Philles in the championship game. He recorded three RBIs on two hits, including a 2-run homerun, and also held the Phillies hitless over three innings of work while striking out six.

The Orioles took an early 4-0 lead, but the Phillies clawed their way back in the bottom of the sixth with good base running and timely hits. However, Ben Lugo and Gabe Perrault each reached base and scored for the Orioles.

Pitching for the Phillies was Austin Long (two Ks), Arneson (four Ks), and Adam Robinson (two Ks).

SOUTH AAA

Blue Jays 16,
Orioles 10

The Blue Jays defeated the Orioles in an exciting game that was decided in the last inning.

The Blue Jays got strong offesnive performances from David Mullaney, Josh Bailey and Ryan Rutstein.

The Orioles got big hits from Patrick Melanson and Sarah Signorello.

Pitching for the Blue Jays was Ryan Rutstein and Mullaney while Eren Labonte, Zhang, Melanson and Kevin Hayes took the hill for the Orioles.

Giants 5, Rockies 4

Nolan Foss started on the hill for the Giants for the win and also produced at the plate going 3 for 3 with a single, double and triple.

Brandon Yan was strong for the Rockies on the mound as well with two strikeouts while also collecting a base hit.

Twins 13, Orioles 10

It was a hard fought battle and the lead changed six times before the Twins secured the victory adn the championship.

Offensively for the Twins, Courtney Olsen had a two-out RBI single in the first to get the Twins on the board. Adam Gagnon went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. T.J. Gillis pitched 2 1/3 innings letting up only two runs to secure the win. For the Orioles, Kian Dunn went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Tyler Retkevicz went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Justin Cardullo went 1 for 2 with a three-run triple.

Twins 4, Orioles 3

The Twins took the first game of the best of three championship series. Adam Fenlason pitched 4 2/3 innings only allowing 2 runs. Vinny Priore came in for middle relief and Courtney Olsen closed the game. Offensively, Peter Dyszczyk, T.J. Gillis and Olsen each had two hits.

Twins 2, Athletics 0

Twins moved on to the final round behind Peter Dyszczyk who pitched a complete game shutout while allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out 13. Adam Fenlason and Vinny Priore scored the Twins only runs of the game.

Adam Labarge pitched an outstanding game for the A’s, tossing 4 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball and struck out seven.

The only ball to leave the infield was a Shane Lopez single in the sixth, the only hit of the game. Trey LeGraw played well at third and Spencer Desrosiers made a spectacular catch diving for a pop up down the first base line. The Twins took advantage of two miscues by the A’s defense to push across two runs in the fourth with some heads up base running. The A’s put runners at second and third but their bid to tie the game failed due to the pitching Dyszczyk who recorded his 14th strikeout to end the game.

MINORS

Padres 9, Giants 8

In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Padres captured a come from behind walk off win against the Giants. Charlie McKelvey hit a huge two-run triple while Jack O’Malley and Peyton Adams each went three innings, giving up just four runs. Mike Cawthron scored the game-winner to send the Padres to the championship series.

Phillies 6, Rays 3

In a hard fought game by both teams, the Phillies defeated the Rays 6-3 to advance to the championship series. Cody Cargill ignited the offense in the first inning with a blast to deep left center and three-run inside-the-park homerun. The bats were active from there on as Johnny Befumo had two base hits while Antonio Castro laid down a perfect bunt to reach safely. Alex Ortiz pitched 4 1? 3 stellar innings, allowing only one run while striking out 12. Colin Touhey pitched the final inning and a third, striking out four and making a spectacular diving catch to end the Rays rally in the fifth.

G.I.D hosting weeklong camp near end of July

The G.I.D. Baseball Program will host summer camp July 23-27 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day.

Campers will work on fundamentals of hitting, pitching, fielding and baserunning. The camp fee includes a t-shirt and pizza the last day of the camp. Nashua Catholic
wins city title

Nashua Catholic Jr. high defeated Fairgrounds Middle School to capture the city middle school street hockey championship last week at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua’s outdoor rink,

Co-sponosred by Nashua PAL, BGCGN and the 21st Century Foundation, the league features teams from each of the Gate City’s public and Catholic middle schools coached by Nashua Police Officers.

Street hockey became floor hockey as thunder and lightning forced the players inside and into the BGCGN gymnasium as Nashua Catholic, coached by retired officer Mike Soucy, finished the season undefeated with the 9-1 win over patrolman Josh Santiago’s Fairgrounds Falcons squad.

In the consolation game, Officer Tim Orrico’s Pennichuck Middle School Raider team earned a third place finish, with a 3-2 upset victory over Elm St. Middle School, coached by Officer Kyle Crosson.

GDTC

Fun Run every Tuesday from June 26 until Aug. 7

The 37th year of the Greater Derry Track Club’s Kid’s Summer Fun Run program is about to start. Opening day is Tuesday, June 26 at the Londonderry High School track. Registration is at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30. Greater Derry Track Club members will lead stretching exercises and offer running tips. Race groups are based on the following age groups: 2-3 years (50 meters), 4-6 (200), 7-8 (300), 9-10 (600), 11-13 (cross country mile), 14-up (1 mile race on track) and an all ages adaptive 100 run. Water, Gatorade and watermelons will be supplied each week.

Children will receive participation ribbons each week from Derry Parks and Recreation, and runners who complete the entire series will receive medals and t-shirts from GDTC.

Sponsors cover all registration fees; but please bring along a non-perishable food donation to support our local food banks. Avoid the lines by bringing completed registration forms and waivers found online at www.gdtc.org.
