Boys U11

Nashua Blast win a pair

The Nashua Blast beat Windham 11-3, followed by a 7-3 triumph over Hooksett.

Luc Blondeau led the scoring against Windham with three goals, while Jacob Rodriguez, Chris Sullivan, J.J. Fiore, Joey Buturla and Nate Zalzal each chipped in with goals. Assists were earned by Owen Duda, Zalzal and Cole Desmond while Nick Connerty, Connor McDowell, Garett Hillard, Joey Buturla and Hunter Chenard stood out defensively. Goalie Max Wright made 15 saves.

Fiore and Sullivan each had three goals against Hooksett, and Buturla also added a goal of his own. Rodriguz, Zalzal and Owen Finn each had assists, while McDowell, Chernard, Connerty, Hillard and Matthew Hallahan stood out defensively. Wright had another 15 save performance.

The Blast will move on to the playoff tournament in Londerry June 9 to take part in the third place bracket.

Hollis-Brookline finishes regular season strong

In New Hampshire Youth Lacrosse action the Hollis Brookline U11 lacrosse team notched a 9-1 win against Londonderry.

HB attackmen David Wang, TJ Vitullo, Hunter Hudzik, Willy Marinaccio and Henry Kotarski did an outstanding job cycling the ball in the offensive zone while Vitullo netted four goals and Kudzik added another.

Kotarski had two goals, while Hillard and Vella each added a talley. Midfielders Dylan Terenzoni, Liam Baldwin, Nick Dapolitio, Ronnie Hillard, Andrew Kotarski, Sal Vella, David Wang, Teddy Moscatelli, Scott Walsh andTom Gardiner did a fantastic job winning the battle of ground balls and moving the ball quickly down field and setting up the attackmen.

The defensive team of Jack Sinclair, Matthew Wojcik, Henry Burns and Hillard played an outstanding game while goalie Ian Babcock shut down the Londonderry offense.

Girls U11

Blast beat Cocheco to close out regular season

The Nashua Blast defeated Cocheco 11-7 on Sunday, after being rained out for their Saturday match at Bow.

Nashua kept the ball out of their own territory for most of the first half.

Great defensive efforts by Abbey Rowe, Kirsten McIntire, Kateri Coffey, Britney Pearson, Campbell Haller, Taylor Guilfoil, Grace Lambert, Alyssa deCarteret and Coryn Flavin certainly helped their goalie, Cassidy Lavoie. Collectively they held Cocheco to only one goal in the first half.

Centers Kelsie Leith and Emma Pucillo worked the face offs in favor of Nashua. Offensive fuel was sparked by a tough attack featuring Victoria Gates, Calley Goulet, Alison Hartshorn, Molly Caron, Julia Sullivan, Emily Morneau and Payson Mooso. Izzy Bolduc kept busy working both offense and defense. Nashua notched six goals in the first half. Bailey Morin, Julia Sullivan, Calley Goulet and Hannah Fortin all scored first half goals for Blast.

Emma Pucillo had two goals the first half, one fed on a nice assist by Emily Morneau.

New to the net in the second half was a valiant effort by Alison Hartshorn for Nashua. Moving to defense were vets Hannah Fortin, Bailey Morin, Payson Mooso and rookie Morneau. Bolduc, Coffey, Caron, and Haller maintained their defensive positions to help Nashua stay ahead through the half.

Coryn Flavin worked the face offs with Pucillo. McIntire, Leith, Lambert, Guilfoil, and Lavoie took up

new positions on the offense for purple. Calley Goulet and Julia Sullivan maintained their strong efforts at offense for Nashua, each scoring their second goals of the game in the latter half. Kirsten McIntire also added a goal for Nashua and Emma Pucillo closed it out with two more goals.

The Blast girls look forward to the upcoming playoffs in Londonderry and a tournament in Amherst to close out the spring season.

Middle School

Windham takes title

On June 1 the Windham Middle School softball team beat Hollis-Bookline in the championship game 2-0. Rachel Rogers pitched seven scoreless innings and had 10 strikeouts.

The action started in the fourth inning when Jaimie Cleasby hit a triple and scored the first run of the game on a fly ball hit by Rogers. In the top of fifth with runners on second and third with two outs, Cleasby made a leaping catch on a line drive to save potential ruins.

The next run came in the bottom of the sixth when Anna Desjardin pinch hit, reached third base and scored on a hit by cleasby. The final out of the game came with runners on first and second with two outs when Rogers threw to Leyla Desjardin for a game ending pickoff play at second base.

SOUTH MAJORS

Orioles 7, Giants 6

The Orioles pitchers included Brendan Auriana (three strikeouts), Nate Cormier (two strikeouts), Chase Hart and Matt Savoia.

The Giants pitchers included Ryan Kozyra (four strikeouts) and Devin Gates (six strikeouts). Auriana went 2 for 2 at the plate for the Orioles, and looked sharp on the mound. The Giants managed just one hit off of the Orioles’ pitcher.

Alex Patno got an RBI single to score Gabe Perrault. The Giants fought back thanks to Ryan Kozyra’s two RBIs.

An RBI groundout by Erica Wentz and an error fueled the Giants’ comeback.

In the 5th inning, the Giants were down 7-5, and had bases loaded. Matt Savoia made a great play firing home for the force at the plate and saving a run. The Giants’ Jake Fitzpatrick got an RBi to make the score 7-6.

Orioles 5, Phillies 4

Brendan Auriana and Matt Savoia pitched for the Orioles. Zach Finkelsteinhad 10 strikeouts for the Phillies.

Alex Patno had a big day for the Orioles, going 2 for 2 with a walk and RBI. Chase Hart delivered with two RBIs. Sam Malignaggi had a two-run single for the Phillies.

A’s 7, Royals 6

Stephen McLendon, Thomas McLendon and TJ Gillis pitched for the A’s. The Royals received solid pitching from Alex Amigo and Harper Niven.

The A’s Spencer Durand had three hits including his fourth home run of the season. Ryan Vermette and Nate Riggs both contributed with two hits, part of the A’s 12 hits on the night.

South A’s 8,
North Diamondbacks 4

Stephen McLendon and Thomas McLendon pitched well for the A’s. The defense was error-free for the second game in a row. The offense was sparked by Nate Riggs (2 for 2, double), while Spencer Durand contributed two hits and three RBIs.

SOUTH AAA

A’s 6, Pirates 2

The Pirates came out firing, but couldn’t hang on to the lead, losing 6-2. While the Pirates and A’s were tied until the sixth inning, the A’s took the lead on a sacrifice grounder by Kyle O’connor. Owen Long, Jeff Lugo and Nate Smith helped lead A’s, combining for seven hits and five RBIs.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Christopher Keefe tripled to start things off before Brandon Metivier singled, bringing home Keefe.The game was tight until the A’s scored four runs in the sixth. The pitching was great for both sides. The Pirates’ pitchers included Tim Eaton and Brandon Metivier. The A’s pitchers were Jeff Lugo, Charlie Collins and Brendan Frost.

A’s 10, Cardinals 6

The Cardinals pitchers included Nick Gosselin and Isaiah Naroff while the A’s countered with Liam Bourque, Kyle O’Connor, Jeffrey Lugo and Nathan Smith. The Cardinals received good defense from Naroff, who executed two unassisted plays at first base. Adam Picard and Mikey Rzasa each drove in runs.

Gosselin, James Deichman (double) and Adam Picard led the offensive attack for the Cardinals. Brendan Frost (3 for 4), Kyle O’Connor (double), Jeffrey Lugo (2 for 3), Owen Long (2 for 3) and Nate Collins (RBI) stood out for the A’s.

Blue Jays 12, Cardinals 8

The Blue Jays won consecutive games for the first time this season, defeating the Cardinals 12-8. After allowing three runs in the first inning, Blue Jays starter David Mullaney settled down on the mound, allowing only one run over the next three innings. The Blue Jays offense surged for the second consecutive night. The Blue Jays got strong offensive performances from Joey Bodi, David Mullaney and Ryan Rutstein. Nick Gosselin, Adam Picard, and James Diechman all had multi-hit games for the Cardinals.

Pirates 12, Giants 7

Matt Beaudette had two hits and three RBIs and Tim Eaton pitched well for the Pirates. Three runs in the bottom of the third helped the Giants close the deficit to 5-3. Ryan Lentine, Ryan Murray and Nolan Foss each drove in runs for the Giants.

CENTRAL MAJORS

Royals 7, Braves 4

The Royals were led by great performances on the mound by Colton Welch, Sky Boykin and Trevor Kelly. Welch was dominant at the plate as well with four hits on the day. Chris Inzerillo kept the game close with his tremendous play in right field.

CENTRAL AAA

Royals 19, White Sox 7

Jack Woermer led the Royals with two RBIs and three runs scored. With the bases loaded in the second, Stephen Loranger hit a bases clearing triple then scored on a throwing error. Jacob Langenfeld and Max Ackerman pitched well for the Royals. Cristian Villar went 1 for 3 with two runs scored. John Jigarjian and Connor Lane each went 1 for 3 for the White Sox.

Braves 10, Tigers 5

The Braves defense made several great plays, including Yassine Jakib’s barehanded grab to throw out the runner on a slow roller down the third base line. Alex Lambalot (4 for 4), Dylan Nolet and Andy Tate scored two runs each. For the Tigers Owen Kelly (2 for 3) and Brandon Rella each pitched two solid innings to keep the game close.

Royals 18, Tigers 15

The Royals tamed the Tigers in a high-scoring game. Spencer Champagne went 3 for 3 with three runs and Sean Quinlan had two hits and scored three runs. Christain DiGregorio made a fantastic catch on a line drive to end the game. Ethan Gaffney went 2 for 3 for the Tigers, including a two-run double. Matt Bull scored three runs. Tyler Armeen and Dylan Dichard each had multiple hits.

Braves 14, Cardinals 9

The Braves defeated the Cardinals in a slugfest. The Cardinals got two hits each from Cody Rocheleau, Alex Durant and Angel Rivera. The Braves were led by Peeroum Hay (3 for 3, six RBIs), who hit a monstrous Grand Slam over the center field fence. It was the first ball to leave Covarrubius field in AAA since 2005. The Braves got two hits apiece from Alex Lambalot (three runs), Liam Novak (three RBIs) and Logan Cuervels.

Twins 6, Red Sox 3

The Twins were hitless until the third inning when Adam Gagnon hit a two-out single and then led off the fifth inning with a triple. Peter Dyszczyk went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Adam Fenlason pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits, one earned run and striking out 11. Mike Fletcher scored twice for the Twins.

Orioles 3, Athletics 2

The A’s defense played well behind the pitching of Yandell Mateo with nine put outs at first base. Spencer Desrosiers threw a perfect sixth inning to give the A’s a chance to come back.

Royals 4, Orioles 3

It was a close game that came down to the tying run at the plate for the final out. Kian Dunn, EJ Reilly and Tyler Retkevicz all hit doubles.

Royals 2, Twins 1

The Twins came up short in this pitcher’s duel. Peter Dyszczyk struck out eight and only gave up two hits over 32?3 innings. Vinny Priore pitched in relief, striking out one and giving up two hits.

Courtney Olsen came in and struck out the two batters she faced. The Twins only hits came from Adam Gagnon (2 for 3) and Priore (1 for 1) with a double.

MINORS

Padres 15, White Sox 6

Damien Gannon took home the game ball with a big hit and great play at second base. Charlie McKelvey started on the mound and recorded a strikeout. Peyton Adams pitched three innings, striking out eight. Jake Lord, Mike Cawthron, Jaden Murphy and Jack O’Malley each got big hits.

Rays 9, Mariners 5

Cole Koskela went 3 for 4, knocking in three RBIs while pitching a solid game for the Rays. Aaron Roberge came in relief in the fourth and pitched two perfect innings with six strikeouts.

Roberge also had two base hits and three RBIs. Alex Ochoa showed his prowess on the bags, stealing second and third base, but came up short at the plate with fine defensive work by the Mariners.

Giants 12, Brewers 1

Alex Meesig pitched a complete game allowing just one hit with 15 strikeouts. Jaiden Dupont had a 3 for 4 night at the plate with four RBIs. Sean Hagberg, Zack Berthiaume and Meesig also had hits. Josh Taylor made a nice play in the field, and Troy Clayman took home the game ball after drawing two walks and scoring a run.

Rays 10, White Sox 3

The White Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but smart base running and the bats of Cole Koskela and Colin Keavey contributed to Rays runs. Excellent White Sox pitching held the Rays to a two-hitter.

Aaron Roberge had 10 strikeouts in 31/3 innings for the Rays. Eric Perry was hot on the bases, breaking his 2011 record with five stolen bases, but was thrown out at third on a close play to third.

Padres 9, Giants 4

Ian Kurek earned game ball for the Padres after working a big walk, then showed great base running by scoring on two passed balls to spark the offense at a tight point in the game.

Jack O’Malley started and pitched well through three innings for the win. Peyton Adams relieved him and held the Giants scoreless with four strikeouts through three innings.

Jaden Murphy, Jake Lord, Mike Cawthron and O’Malley also had big hits. The defense helped both pitchers throughout the game.

The Giants lost despite Evan Wilson’s spectacular day from both the mound and the plate. Wilson reached base two times in the game for the Giants with a triple.

MYA elections
set for June 18

The Merrimack Youth Association Basketball Program will be having elections for positions on the Board of Directors on June 18, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the MYA Building. Positions are held for one year and run from July to June.

UMass Lowell offering two weeks of Camps

The UMass Lowell softball program will conduct two weeks of camps this summer, the first from June 25-27 and another July 16-19 at River View Field on the University’s South Campus.

Both camps will be conducted by UMass Lowell head coach Sean Cotter; assistants Kara Melillo and Danielle Mason; as well as several members of the UMass Lowell squad.

The June 25 camp, for players aged 6-10, will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00, while pitchers will receive small group instruction from 12:00-12:45. Admission to the camp is $75 per player and $100 per pitcher.

Campers who are among three or more players from the same team will receive a $10 discount. A $10 discount will also be given for each additional family member.

The July 16 week, for players aged 11-18, will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cost of the camp is $150 per player and $175 per pitcher.

Campers who are among three or more players from the same team will receive a $20 discount. A $20 discount will also be given for each additional family member while children of UMass Lowell faculty/staff will receive a $15 discount.
