Nashua’s Tilak Patel had an off day, hitting 16 out of 25 free throw attempts on a day he needed to be perfect from the charity stripe.

Eleven-year-old Joseph Girard III from Queensburg, N.Y., calmly dropped in 25 out of 25 free throws to win the Boys 10-11 Age Division at the 2012 Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals held at Western New England College in Springfield, Mass.

Patel finished the day ninth in his division.

Joining Girard with a perfect day was 13-year-old Taylor Robertson from Texas, who also dropped in 25 out of 25 free throws to win her division title.

Girard and Robertson were each presented the coveted Getty Powell Award for the top boy and girl shooters in the Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals.

The other four 2012 champions were: Oregon 9-year-olds Jalen Lampman (24 shots made) and Addi Wedin (23); 11-year-old Annika Kaufmann (23) of Florida and 12-year-old Nathan Davis (24) of Pennsylvania.

The six national champions will now have their names inscribed in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

There were 72 regional champions competing in six divisions (12 in each division) from a crop of over three million boys and girls starting the competition in the fall.

The three-day Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals concluded following the awards banquet Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning’s Breakfast of Champions.
