PAL/Gate City Striders

Sub-Bantams win national title

On Dec. 10, 41 Nashua PAL Gate City Strider youth runners wrapped up a successful season by competing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship Races at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The youth runners had qualified for “Nationals” with top place team and individual finishes in New England and Northeast Regional competition.

Sub-Bantams (8U)

The PAL Striders sub-bantam boys’ team won the National Championship, edging a team from New Mexico. In a solid team effort, the team had strong performances from Nicholas Dahl, Christopher Keefe, Benjamin Martin, Jared Long, Ryan MacDonald, and Levi Santoro.

The championship team was coached by Karen Long. Nicholas Dahl placed 24th in the race and was named an All American.

Bantams (10U)

In the Bantam division, the boys’ team had a strong day placing 5th out of 17 teams. Noah Strout finished 4th in the race, earning All American honors. Also running well were Alex Koutsos, Brendon Frost, Landon Johnson, Connor Dube, John Sullivan, Zackary Berthiaume, and David Pike. Tylee Thurber ran as an individual in the girls race and had a strong day, finishing 39th in a field of over 200 runners.

Midgets (12U)

The boys’ Midget team earned a solid 13th place team finish. In a race with more than 275 runners, the midgets were paced by Justin Carbonneau and Aidan Sullivan with top 75 performances. Also running strong were Connor Muise, Simon Morrier, Andrew Wakefield, Aiden Van Batenburg, Ryan Vermette, and Kyle Fisher.

Youth (14U)

The boys’ Youth team finished 13th of 25 teams. In the biggest field of the day with over 300 runners, the youth team was led by top 100 finishers Jake McMaster and Tom Lessard. Also running well were Noah Bellomo, Mitch King, Andrew Dahl, Tyler North, Christopher Fischer, and Ethan Michaud.

Intermediate (16U)

The boys’ Intermediate team placed 10th. The squad, comprised solely of Intermediate Division rookies, included top 100 finishers Tyler Doveno and Phillip Demers. They were joined by Jonathan Sheehan, Brian McAfee, Jonathan Zalman, Ryan Doyle, and Patrick Swanson. In the girls’ race, Brianna Lippitt and Marie Morrier both ran strong races.

Young Women (18U)

Erica Notini finished 26th.

GYMNASTICS

NSG solid at Holiday Invite

Nashua School of Gymnastics competed at the Holiday Invitational at Atlantic Gym this past weekend. This was the first meet for the Compulsory Gymnasts (Levels 4-6) with many of them qualifying for Sectionals with an All Around score of 31.00 or higher.

Individual Results

Level 4 (Snowflake Group)

Amanda Beauregard had an All Around Score of 34.40 (2nd place); she scored a 9.3 (2nd ) on vault, 8.3 (3rd ) on bars, 8.3 (2nd ) on beam and 8.50 (2nd ) on floor.

Cristina Cross had an All Around Score of 31.40 (5th place); she scored a 9.45 (1st ) on vault; 7.6 (4th) on bars, 7.45 (6th) on beam and 6.9 (8th) on floor.

Level 4 (Santa Group)

Elaina Greco had an All Around Score of 36.15 (1st place); she scored a 9.45 (1st) on vault, 8.7 (2nd) on bars, 8.9 (2nd place) on beam and 9.10 (1st ) on floor.

Nithya Arun had an All Around Score of 30.5 (9th place); she scored an 8.7 (9th ) on vault; 7.0 (10th) on bars, 7.3 (8th) on beam and 7.5 (7th ) on floor.

Level 4 (Cookie Cutter Group)

Sue Mai White had an All Around Score of 33.70 (5th place); she scored an 8.90 (6th) on vault, 8.50 (5th) on bars, 7.90 (6th ) on beam and 8.4 (4th ) on floor.

April Koczalka had an All Around Score of 31.60 (9th place); she scored a 9.2 (4th ) on vault, 7.10 (10th) on bars, 7.10 (10th ) on beam and 8.20 (6th ) on floor.

Level 4 (Christmas Tree Group)

Annika Sinclair had an All Around Score of 31.00 (7th place); she scored an 8.7 (5th ) on vault, 7.5 (6th ) on bars, 6.6 (10th place) on beam and 8.2 (5th ) on floor.

Casey Omer had an All Around Score of 29.4 (9th place); she scored a 6.4 (8th) on vault; 8.0 (5th ) on bars, 7.4 (8th) on beam and 7.6 (7th ) on floor.

Level 4 (Holiday Group)

Megan Magoon had an All Around Score of 34.45 (4th place). She scored an 8.4 (7th) on vault; 8.8 (2nd) on bars; 9.05 (2nd) on beam and 6.2 (6th) on floor.

Sara Thomas had an All Around Score of 34.30 (6th place); she scored a 9.00 (4th) on vault, 8.60 (4th) on bars, 8.30 (5th) on beam and 8.4 (5th) on floor.

Chloe Rivest had an All Around Score of 29.40. She scored a 9.1 (2nd) on vault; 6.8 on bars; 7.0 on beam and 6.5 (9th) on floor.

Level 5 (Snow Group)

Corey Foster had an All Around Score of 33.20 (5th place); she scored a 8.45 (4th) on vault, 7.10 (9th) on bars, 9.05 (3rd) on beam and 8.60 (3rd) on floor.

Samantha Gates had an All Around Score of 32.50 (8th place); she scored a 8.00 (7th) on vault, 7.75 (5th) on bars, 8.35 (8th) on beam and 8.40 (4th) on floor.

Sarah St. Lawrence had an All Around Score of 31.225; she scored a 7.95 (10th) on vault, 6.80 on bars, 8.55 on beam, and 7.925 on floor.

Emily Colburn had an All Around Score of 34.825 (4th place); she scored a 9.00 (2nd) on vault, 8.15 (5th) on bars, 8.55 (7th) on beam and 9.125 (1st) on floor.

Breanna Vivier had an All Around Score of 32.975 (7th place); she scored a 8.65 (4th) on vault, 7.20 (10th) on bars, 8.625 (5th) on beam and 8.50 (5th) on floor.

Level 5 (Ornament Group)

Meghan Cox had an All Around Score of 34.20 (6th place); she scored a 7.65 on vault, 8.85 (4th) on bars, 8.775 (9th) on beam and 8.925 (3rd) on floor.

Level 6 (Snowflake Group)

Devon Rosier scored a 9.025 (2nd) on vault and a 6.20 on bars.

Level 6 (Cookie Cutter Group)

Jenna Hantula Level 4 had an All Around Score of 34.60 (3rd place); she scored a 8.75 (4th) on vault, 7.95 (7th) on bars, 9.00 (3rd) on beam and 8.90(3rd) on floor.

Abbey Catalano had an All Around Score of 33.245; she scored an 8.945 on vault, 7.75 on bars, 8.35 on beam and 8.20(7th) on floor.

Level 6 (Santa Group)

Kyra Rivest had an All Around Score of 34.875 (6th place); she scored a 9.00 (5th) on vault, 8.025 (7th) on bars, 9.10 (3rd) on beam and 8.75 (4th) on floor.

Abby Fitzpatrick had an All Around Score of 33.325; she scored an 8.775 (7th) on vault, 7.40 on bars, 8.60 (7th) on beam and 8.55 on floor.

Level 7 (Santa Group)

Blake Boulia had an All Around score of 34.40 (5th place). She scored 9.00 (4th) on vault, 8.35 (6th) on bars, 8.30 on beam and 8.75 (7th) on floor

Level 9 (Christmas Tree Group)

Megan Middlemiss had an All Around score of 33.45 (1st Place). She scored 8.60 (4th) on vault, 8.30 (1st) on bars, 7.85(3rd) on beam, and 8.70 (1st) on floor.

Laura Maggioli scored an 8.55 (6th) on vault, 7.80 (5th) on beam and 8.00 (4th) on floor.

BASKETBALL

Nashua Boys Biddy

Sharks 34, Cougars 20

The Sharks opened their season with a win, defeating the Cougars 34 to 20. It was a true team effort with 7 Shark players scoring points, and all 11 players had rebounds. The standouts for the Sharks were Larry Lassiter, Cam Paquette and Owen Shea. On defense, Kavim Bhatnagar controlled the boards.

Satellites 53, Bullets 36

High scorers for the Satellites were Steve Lambert with 23, and Spencer Derosher with 8

Lancers 62, Hawks 21

The Lancers beat the Hawks 62-21 in the opener for both teams. 12 of the 14 Lancers players scored, led by Chaz Magras (12), Sam Mena (10), Bhanu Kappala (8) and Harper Niven (8). Dean Donnell also had an excellent game. Peyton Fisher (8) and Devin Gates (6) led the Hawks.

Lancers 52, Jets 19

The Lancers beat the Jets 52-19. The Lancers were led by excellent all around games by Ayoub El-Sabir and Pranav Prabala. Top scorers for the Lancers were Killian Waible (8) Chaz Magras (8), Sam Mena (6), Harper Niven (6) and Murray Mahoney (6). The Jets were led by Tyler (5) and Andrew (4).

Warriors 54, Cavaliers 22

The Warriors started the season strong with Ronnie Silva, Dominick Paladino, and Jean Paul Diaz all scoring in double digits. The Cavs got a strong contribution from Tim Rose with 6 points.

Sonics 39, Nationals 24

The Sonics were paced by Jordan Buckmire who had 12 points while Robert Batsevich added 6. Nick Kelly played solid defense and added to the scoring for the Sonics off the bench. The Nationals received strong efforts from Jay Patel who had 8 points and Nick Ianuzzo who added 7 points.

Nashua Nighthawks

5th Graders

The 5th Grade opened their regular season with an impressive 44-24 victory over Westford, Mass. Leading Nashua was Nevan Roy with 15 points and six rebounds.

Also playing well were Andrew Penkala (3 assists, 4 steals, and 2 rebounds), Casey McNally (steal and assist), and Andre LaPlante (3 steals, assist, rebound).

In their second game, the Hawks defeated Billerica, Mass., 37-29. Nashua was led offensively by Nevan Roy (eight points, four rebounds, steal), Gabe Perrault (seven points), Jeffrey Reza (six points, three rebounds, assist, steal) and Patrick Gillis (five points, two rebounds, steal, assist).

6th Graders

The Nighthawks defeated the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club 45-29. Xahn Frater led the team with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Sclyler Boykin contributed eight points and Ryan Lynn added seven points. Also playing well was Yanis Nyantenji with eight rebounds and six blocked shots.

In the second game of the weekend, the Hawks beat Andover, Mass., 48-20.

Nyantenji had another strong game, recording 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Razz Alkalay also added eight rebounds and was a huge part of the team defense. Xahn Frater led the team with 18 points.

In the final game of the weekend, Nashua defeated Wakefield, Mass., 59-29.

Ryan Lynn led the Nighthawks with 12 points and five rebounds. Defensively the team continued to play aggressively, led by Tyson Thomas with five steals.

WRESTLING

BGCGN grapplers tough in Londonderry

Wrestlers from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua youth team as well as BGCGN’s Elm St. Middle School team kicked off the season at the PJ Sora Middle School Wrestling Tournament at Londonderry High School last weekend.

In the seventh-eighth grade division, Elm Street’s Brian Toupin (2-1) was the runner-up in the 133-pound weight class.

In the fifth-sixth grade division, Ryan Jigarjian (3-0) was the 68-pound champion, followed by Thomas Christian, the runner-up at 65 pounds, Isaiah Johnson the bronze medalist at 92 and Garrett Hillard, who wrestled tough at 150.

Fourth grader Nate Zalzal wrestled up in the fifth-sixth grade division and placed third at 113 pounds.

HOCKEY

Squirts

Cavs AA 7, Masco AA 1

In Valley League Youth Hockey Action the Cavaliers Squirt AA team played an exceptional game against a tough Masco Squirt AA team.

Led by offense of Max Sears, who had a hat trick, and the exceptional play between the pipes of goalie Chris Sullivan the Cavs dominated.

Ben Goolsby chipped in with two goals, while Jared Debruin and Parker Mabbett netted one goal each.

TJ Vitullo had an excellent game at center, moving the puck in the offensive zone with four assists. The Cavs defensemen David Wang, Sean Kelly and Austin Ciszek all had excellent games.
