FOOTBALL

Nashua Elks Crusaders

5th Grade: Nashua 47, Concord 0

The Nashua Elks Crusaders ended the regular season with an offensive explosion and their sixth consecutive victory.

The Crusaders (6-2) jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter on two touchdowns from Jake Robbins. Concord threatened to score, but Nashua’s defense held firm in the red zone.

After the first quarter, Concord never threatened again and the Crusaders’ offense kicked into high gear. The team received touchdowns from Jaylan Pacheco, Jeffrey Reza and Jason Messier. The team also received extra points from Casey McNally, on a pass from Andrew Penkala, and runs from Robbins, Cole Desmond and Max Sheperd.

The offense also received solid performances from Alex Fortier and Tige McNulty. The Crusaders offensive line was great all game and received tremendous efforts from Tanner Plourde, Braden McDonnell, Brandon Martin and Nathaniel Tejada.

As the score indicates, the Crusaders’ defense was very stingy and received tackles from Brendon Frost, Allan Godfrey and Gabe Perrault.

3rd Grade: Laconia tops NPF

Robby Long went the distance for two touchdowns, while Max Ackerman, Logan Mathewson and Andrew Barry tore up excellent yardage against the Laconia defense in defeat.

Chris McQuinn and Aiden Bashor blasted though the line with nice blocking by Chris Acevedo, Zach Howard and Jesse Allen. Shaun Marion teamed up with Christian Ayala, providing open running lanes for the NPF offense. Neo Helin combined with Matt Oliver for several solid tackles on defense.

5th Grade: Laconia 31, Nashua 6

Nashua’s James Heitmuller, aided by a surging Force offensive line blasted into the end zone for a touchdown against a previously unscored upon Laconia defense.

HOCKEY

Nashua Mite I wins four

The Nashua Panthers Mite I’s had a busy week with four wins to stay undefeated in the Valley League.

The Panthers traveled to Wilmington and handed them a 6-0 loss. Dominic Carozza lead the team with two goals. Sean Morrissey, Joey Pillsbury, Brooke Yabroudy and Daniel Woodford all added a goal in the winning effort. Dylan Troiano recorded his first shutout of the year.

In the night cap, Nashua took on Wakefield and beat them 7-3 with Carozza leading the way with three goals and an assist. Sebastian Zeman added twogoals with Morrissey and Pillsbury rounding off the scoring. Brain Chisholm added an assist in the game but his defensive play helped shut down the Chiefs.

On Sunday, the team hosted Beverly and kept up their aggressive fore checking style lead by Sam Clauson that helped them to a 5-2 victory. Yabroudy lead the way with three goals and an assist with Brandon Rheaume and Carozza closing out the scoring.

In the final game of the weekend, the Panthers played unbeaten Masco and came out of the hard fourth game with a 6-3 win. Nashua came out flying and kept up the high tempo game that wore Masco down in the end. Matt Licata and Carozza both kept crashing the net and helped the Panthers with both scoring 2 goals each. Corey Girouard added a goal and 2 assists, Troiano added 2 key helpers and Clauson closed out the scoring in the 3rd period to seal the victory. This moves the team to 10-0 in the Valley League.

WRESTLING

Youth wrestling clinics set for November

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN) will kick off the youth wrestling season by holding two Saturday morning wrestling clinics on Nov. 5 and 12 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on 47 Grand Ave. Boys and girls in kindergarten-8th grade are invited. No experience necessary. Open to non-members of the Boys and Girls Club and residents of surrounding towns. $10 fee covers both clinics. T-shirt provided to each participant. Those who wish to continue after the clinics may participate on BGCGN’s youth wrestling teams during its winter season. Joining the coaching staff this season are former high school coach (Nashua, Trinity, BG) Kurt Rowlette and current North High School coach Jeff Arbogast. Nashua/Hudson middle school teams holding sign-ups

Wrestling teams operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua at Nashua’s three public middle schools and Hudson Memorial Middle School are signing up students now for a November start.

Practices are held at-school, after school, and teams compete in the interschlastic Tri-County Middle School Athletic League. Open to boys and girls in grades 6-8. No experience necessary.

BASKETBALL

Crusaders tryouts in Dec., Jan.

The New England Crusaders, the only Nike sponsored girls’ basketball club in New England, is holding tryouts for its 5th and 6th grade teams on December 17, 2011 and January 7, 2012 from 8:00 to 9:30am at the Manchester Boys & Girls Club at 555 Union St. in Manchester. The Crusaders have teams at all age levels from 5th through 11th grade. Tryout fees are $20 and each participant must be registered with the AAU in order to participate.
