WRESTLING

BGCGN strong at Bay State Games

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua youth wrestling team traveled to Boston to take part in the 2011 Bay State Games and produced a few medalists in the process.

Six grapplers from the 7-8 grade division competed and displayed true sportsmanship and dedication to the sport.

Taking home bragging rights in first place was Brandon Levesque with a 4-0 record. Second place honors went to Jordan Rowlette (2-2) and Cam Bennett (4-2). Gathering fourth place honors were Taylor Thyne (1-3) and Brian Toupin (1-3).

David Muite also wrestled very well but fell just short of the medal round.

Medals were handed out to the top three finishers in each weight bracket as well as the top four receiving Bay State Game warm up jackets.

Levesque, Rowlette and Bennett, having placed in the top three, also qualified for the All State Games in Pennsylvania.

Football

PAL Force sign-ups scheduled for Monday

Nashua PAL Force Football and Spirit Registration is scheduled for Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Artillery Field.

Ages 5 to 15 and grades pre-k through eighth can register. Football equipment issuance and Spirit uniform fittings will also be conducted at the same time.

Basketball

Lady Panthers AAU tryouts in August

The Northeastern Lady Panthers AAU basketball club will be hosting tryouts for the 2011 fall season on Aug. 5 and 12. All tryouts are held at the Rogers Middle School at 43 Highland St., Lowell, Mass. There is a $30 tryout fee for all teams. Teams will be formed in all grades beginning with fourth to 12th (Class 2012). All abilities are encouraged to tryout. The fourth through seventh graders will go from 6-7:15 p.m., while the eighth through 12th graders take the court from 7:15-8:30 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Contact Ricky Oliver at info@neladypanthers.org. Gold Medal Squared boys camp set for Aug. 8-11

Gold Medal Squared Boys Volleyball Camp at Hollis Brookline High School has a few openings left for August 8-11. The Camp is for Middle School and High School boys interested in volleyball. Contact Becky Balfour at 465-7525 for more information.

Wrestling

BGCGN K-8 camp set for Aug. 19-21

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua is offering a summer wrestling camp Aug. 19-21 for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Rookies and experienced wrestlers are welcome and will be challenged at appropriate levels. This is a great camp for the beginner who would like to take the step to the next level and it is also a perfect platform for the more experienced wrestler to improve their skills. Featured coaches include Nashua High School South varsity wrestling coach Adam Langlois, Bishop Guertin varsity coach Paul Rousseau, Elm Street Middle School coach Herb Bennett and Gate City Wrestling Club coach Kris Rowlette – a New England high school champion and Division I collegiate wrestler. The camp runs Friday through Sunday (Aug. 19-21) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A $50 registration fee covers wrestling instruction and drilling, live wrestling (if desired) lunch daily, games, swimming and lots of fun. H/B girls camp starts July 18

The Hollis/Brookline Girls Basketball Camp is scheduled for July 18-22 from 12:30-4 p.m. daily in the high school’s main gymnasium. This camp is for girls from Hollis and Brookline that are entering the seventh, eighth and ninth grades. The camp, which is limited to 40 spots, is run by coaches Bob Murphy and Tim Glover, as well as some high school varsity players. Titan hoop camp set for July 11-22

The annual Titan Basketball Camp directed by Don Gutterson with help from local coaches and high school players, will be held the weeks of July 11 and 18 at Milford Middle School. Camp for students entering fifth through eighth grade will be held July 11-15 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. For those students entering first through fourth grades, camp will be held July 18-22 from 9 a.m.-noon. Field Hockey

Astros Shoot for the Stars camp still has openings

The annual Astros Shoot for the Stars field hockey camp still has openings for both weeks.

The camp, directed by coach Denise Rioux, will run from 8 a.m. to noon at Rider Field in Derry the weeks of July 11-15 and July 18-22. Campers can attend either or both weeks. Walk-up registrations will also be welcome. To receive a form, e-mail coach Rioux at Denrioux@aol.com or call 785-4740.
