Amherst Middle girls win 3rd straight title

Led by seventh grader Anna Farrow’s two outstanding first place finishes, the Amherst Middle School girls won their third consecutive Tri-County League track and field championship. Amherst has not lost a meet in these three seasons.

Farrow clocked a meet and league record time of 14.9 seconds in the hurdles, then came back to capture the 400 title after falling far off the pace. She made up a distance gap of nearly 30 meters to pull ahead down the home stretch to finish with a blistering time of 1 minute, 1.43 seconds.

Other first place finishers for the girls and undefeated throughout the season were Cici Huyck, who repeated as 200 champion, seventh grader Hannah Gillis in the 1,600 (fourth in 800) and sixth grader Jessica Ewing in the 800.

The 4×200 relay team of seventh graders Emily Lewis, Ciarri Formby-Lavertu and Farrow, as well as eighth grader Huyck also took a first place.

Other top performers included sixth grader Madeleine Hunt, who was second in the 1,600 and 800 and seventh grader Mikayla Hickey with a second in the long jump and 4×100 relay, and fourths in both the 100 and 200.

The boys team finished in second place. Ken Whittier led the way witha win in the 800 and a third in the 400. Eli Moskowitz ran a season-best time of 5:06 to win the 1,600 while anchoring the 4×200 relay which placed second.

U10 Hurricanes win Charpentier tourney

The U10 Northeast Hurricanes won the Bob Charpentier Memorial Tournament title this past weekend in Lowell, Mass.

The ’Canes beat the U10 Southern Maine Flames in eight innings to include an international tie breaker. Members of the tournament team are Olivia Kapsambelis, Victoria Andrade, Izzy Antonelli, Alexa Pacy, Madison Rastello, Emma Tomlins, Brianna Marino, Abby Latham, Morgan Hartranft, Skylar Mack, Nyah Mazzone, Brenna Davenport and Dana Littlefield.

HOCKEY

Black team reaches Tri-Town 3-on-3 finals

The Black team went undefeated in round robin play and earned a finals appearance in the Spring 3-on-3 Hockey Championship at Tri-Town Ice Arena in Hooksett.

They came up short against the Yellow team, falling 5-0 in the championship game.

In the first game against the Red team, Garrison Gagnon scored the only goal of the game to lead his Black team to a 1-0 victory.

Assists on the play went to Parker Joyce and Marc L’Heureux.

In the second game against the White team, five different players scored as the Black team went on to a 5-0 victory.

The third game was a prelude to the championship game later in the evening against the Yellow team. The Yellow team got on the board first when they were able to score on John Moriarty, breaking up Moriarty’s two-game shutout streak.

With a little over three minutes left in the game, Joey Stowell would bury home a rebound shot from Jacob Noonan to tie the game 1-1. Jared Steinberg would record an assist on the play.

The Black team would later go on to score the game-winner with 16 seconds left in the game when Owen Olson buried his first of the tournament. Assists on the play went to Theo Milianes and Nathan Statires.

The win propelled the Black team into the finals as the No. 1 seed against the Yellow team.

In the Championship game, the Yellow team came back strong, as they were able to score five unanswered goals in the 5-0 win.

LACROSSE

U13 Boys: Nashua Blast poised for 2012

The Nashua Blast boys U13A team fought against some tough opponents this season. But don’t let their final record fool you – they came to play every game.

The team finished with a 3-6 record. Under the coaching of Sean Morse and Rod Redman, the young team showed improvement each game. To wrap up the season, the team won both of its games during the Londonderry Tournament.

Members of the team are Bryan Connolly, Aaron DeCarteret, Jacob DuBien, Tyler DuBien, Max Fay, Ryan Fitzgerald, Myles Johnson, Collin Leary, Finn Littlefield, Brendan Martin, Alex Moody, Riley Morse, Max Osgood, Joseph Paige, Shane Puleo, Todd Redman, Jon Stone and A.J. Vitali.

CAMPS

Hollis/Brookline girls hoop camp in July

The Hollis/Brookline Girls Basketball Camp is scheduled for July 18-22 from 12:30-4 p.m. daily in the high school’s main gymnasium.

This camp is for girls from Hollis and Brookline that are entering the seventh, eighth and ninth grades. The camp, which is limited to 40 spots, is run by coaches Bob Murphy and Tim Glover, as well as some high school varsity players.
