Hudson Memorial repeats as Tri-County champs

The Hudson Memorial baseball team completed its 2011 season with a convincing 12-1 win over the Woodbury Warriors of Salem, giving the Colts back-to-back Class L championships.

The team was led by a strong wire-to-wire pitching performance by Derek Hudson. The offensive attack was led by Greg Emanuelson who went 3 for 3 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-0 Colts lead they would never relinquish.

Multiple hit games were turned in by Andrew Teague, Sam Mahoney, Cam Coulter, Hudson, and PJ Frasca. Contributions were made up and down the lineup. The Colts finished the season with an 11-1 record and with a strong returning group they should contend for years to come.

Cal Ripken

AAA: North Cardinals 12, North White Sox 11

The Cardinals rallied for extra innings and a 12-11 win over the White Sox in a one game playoff to decide first place in the Nashua North Cal Ripken AAA division.

Gavin Belesca pitched six strong innings for the Cardinals with 12 strikeouts and two earned runs. Catcher Bailey Jamieson blocked the potential game-winning run in the sixth inning.

In the comeback, Luke Cavanaugh fought for a crucial walk before Rylan Brito blasted a double. Kaydn Belesca followed with a game-tying triple.

Peter Bauer also stood out offensively, reaching base safely in three at-bats. Defensively, Joseph Pappas started a rally-killing double play.

For the White Sox, pitcher Ryan Downing recorded nine strikeouts and Rory Curran also pitched well. Offensively, Murray Mahoney went 3 for 3 and William Tsoukalas went 2 for 3. Defensively, Alexis Mills, Bob Denault and Joshua Lentz stood out in defeat.

Majors: NW Royals 13, NW Orioles 3

The Royals ended the regular season on a strong note, scoring 13 runs on 11 hits. Michael Muchemore, Connor Mullaly and Patrick Carr threw a combined one-hitter.

Muchemore led the offense with a 4-for-4 night, including two home runs. Skye Boykins had three hits with a double. Carr, Mullaly and Alex Richard added hits as well.

Majors: NW Royals 7, NW Braves 0

Connor Mullaly, Patrick Carr and Michael Muchemore combined for six no-hit innings for the Royals. Mullaly hit his first major league home run, while Muchemore hit his 11th.

Carr continued his hot streak with two hits, while Chris Paluzzi hit a double and Skye Boykins added a hit of his own.

LACROSSE

U11: Blast girls wrap up season at NHYLA Festival

The Nashua Blast girls U11 team participated in the season-ending NHYLA Festival held in Londonderry.

With an injured Kirsten McIntire on the sidelines, the girls kept pushing on despite an uphill battle. A single goal by Izabella Bolduc lifted the Blast’s spirits to carry them on. Great efforts in net were made by Britney Pearson and Payson Mooso.

In their final game of the season, Caroline Sweet and Bailey Morin took charge between the pipes.

The offensive efforts were powered by Emma Pucillo, Campbell Haller, Kelsie Leith, Payson Mooso and Julia Sullivan. Kirsten Rourke put the Blast on the board first on a pass from Zoe Fillebrown. Izzy Bolduc and Julia Gagnon both scored twice during the game. Gagnon and Hannah Fortin also had two assists.

Zoe Fillebrown scored the last goal of the season for Nashua. Defensive stand outs were Alison Hartshorn, Britney Pearson, Calley Goulet and Abby Rowe.

BU9: Nashua World Cup vs. Hudson

NWC’s play-of-the-day was a mid-air strike from Jordan Robichaud on a wonderful crossed ball from Joe Stone, in addition to goals scored by both players earlier in the game.

Also pitching in on offense were Lucca Soares with a goal and Cameron Mills with an assist.

The team benefited from strong defensive performances from Brogan Gibbon and Colin McMahon.

BU9: Nashua World Cup vs. Bedford AC

NWC and Bedford squads played an evenly matched game at Lincoln Park, in their final game of the season.

Jacob Magni and Patrick Hyde both scored a goal with Joe Stone assisting.

Strong defensive efforts were given by Thomas Ackerley and Michael Poublon.

The match was also highlighted by the strong goaltending of Lucca Soares, who didn’t let a ball get past him in the first half.

MEETINGS

MYA basketball directors election set for June 30

The Merrimack Youth Association Basketball Program will be having elections for positions on the Board of Directors on June 30 at the MYA Building.

Positions are held for one year, running from July to June.

Any member of the MYA is eligible to vote.
