4th grade Shooting Stars win NH tourney

The Shooting Stars won the New Hampshire tournament in the fourth grade division on May 15.

Members of the AAU team, comprised of girls from Bedford, Londonderry and Merrimack, are Delaney Flanagan, Lizzy Stevenson, Ashley Evans, Courtney Krause, Kendra Barnard Emily Johnson, Emily Dumaresq, Caroline DeLisle, Nicole Migneault, Sarah Cote, Amanda DeAngelis, Isabella King, Sophia King, Courtney Shay, Elizabeth Croke, head coach Jim Migneault and assistant coach Ron King.

NEGTC finish strong at Prep-Op meet

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson Prep-Op teams competed in the Spring State Meet held in Dover on May 15. The Prep-Op Advanced placed second, while the Intermediates and Novice both placed fifth.

FINS summer session starting on June 20

The FINS Swim Team will be conducting their summer training clinic from June 20-July 27. The clinic is open to FINS and non-FINS swimmers. BGCGN tryouts set for Monday

Tryouts for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua Swim Team will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, 47 Grand Avenue, Nashua. The Club phone number is 883-0523. All swimmers ages 6-19 are invited to attend. Swimmers must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke in the following distances in order to participate (6-8 year olds 25 yards, 9-12 year olds 50 yards, 13 and up 100 yards). NWC tryouts at Mine Falls

Nashua World Cup welcomes any child ages 4-19 who would like to be part of this 30-year tradition. Tryouts for 2011-12 junior level teams, U6 through U14, will be held at Mine Falls fields in Nashua on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15. Tryouts for senior level teams for the spring 2012 season will be held in November, following the end of the high school season. Smith, Revs Academy running Cobras tryouts

MAJORS

A’s 15, Red Sox 6

The Red Sox bats came alive late in the game after a half-hour rain delay, but not enough to catch the A’s. The final score was 15-6.

Red Sox 13, Twins 8

The Sox were led to victory by Michael Riley and Spencer Morse. Both players pitched great and Morse led the offense with his first home run and a double. Joe Allen started the game by making a great catch in left field off the first batter. For the Twins, Danny Girouard went 1 for 2 with an RBI triple. Heather Roscoe went 2 for 4 with a RBI and Courtney Olsen had an RBI double.

Orioles 17, Cardinals 16

For the Cardinals, Gabriel Perrault went 4 for 5 with four runs scored and JJ Ducharme went 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Tyler Bellemare went 2 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored. Spencer Dozois pitched a gem, allowing only two runs on 76 pitches.

MINORS

Padres 13, Mariners 2

Abhinav Sharma, Jaiden Dupont and Zachary Demers had the Mariners only hits on the day. Defensively for the Mariners, Colby Spencer, Caleb Plourde and Zachary Demers made some nice defensive outs.

Padres 13, Mariners 6

With another great defensive game the Padres defeated the Mariners 13-6. Zack Gauthier was player of the game with three hits, two runs scored and great defense at first base. Inside-the-park home runs were hit by Alex Durand and Jack O’Malley in the fourth inning. Destiny Torres also put together some good at bats.

For the Mariners, Jacob Demers pitched 31?3 strong innings striking out nine, walking only two and made three good defensive plays. Brandon Metivier pitched one inning, had a strikeout and made a nice catch on an infield pop up.

Mariners 6, Mets 16

Starting pitcher Caleb Plourde did well with a spot start after closing out the game the night before. Brandon Metivier did an outstanding job behind the plate marking his first appearance of the year as catcher.

Kylie Dwyer came out of the bullpen and gave it her all for four batters. Jacob Demers made an unassisted double play in the first after catching a line drive and doubling off the runner at first base.

For the Mets, Ryan Lopez pitched three strong innings and hit for the cycle – in five at bats he had a walk, single, double, triple and home run.

White Sox 10, Rays 8

The Rays got off to an early lead with smart base running by Aaron Roberge in the first, and the hot bats of Jose Berrios and Chris Perez in the second. On the mound for the Rays, Aaron Roberge held the Sox to two runs through 32?3 innings, striking out eight batters, and then leading off the fourth with a deep smash to left-center that turned into a home run. Sox relief pitching shut down the Rays after that, and the Sox made a spectacular comeback in the bottom of the fifth. Great fielding and teamwork by Ismael Fermin relaying a long ball to Alexis Roberge highlighted the Rays’ defense.

Brewers 10, Rays 8

For the Rays, Chris Perez recorded four strikeouts and held the Brewers to two runs in the first. Cal Levesque came in relief in the middle of the third, chalking up three strikeouts and fielding a hard hit to first. Heads up fielding by Aaron Roberge caught the Brewers at third base with a snap throw to Colin Keavey. Alexis Roberge was dominant on the bases, stealing two bags from the Brewers.

Phillies 14, Giants 7

The Phillies came alive in the fourth to score seven runs and take command. Adam Gosselin led the offense going 3 for 4 with a double while Alex Ortiz and Zak Almeida both had two hits. The Phillies welcomed Spencer Desrosiers back from injury and he delivered his first base hit of the season and two RBIs. In the fifth, Cody Cargill came through with a bases-loaded double that knocked in three runs.

On the mound Robbie Long started and went 22?3 innings, striking out seven and only allowing one walk and one run. Adam Gosselin and David Koehler were sharp in relief combining for two innings, four strikeouts two walks and zero runs allowed.

Mets 9, Brewers 2

For the Mets, Eren LaBonte pitched four innings striking out 12 batters and only giving up two hits. Mets offensive notables were Kevin Collins with one hit and two walks, Isaiah Johnson with two hits and a walk, Eren Labonte with one hit and a walk and Ryan Lopez with a hit and a walk. Labonte also recorded 12 strikeouts on the mound.

Padres 7 Brewers 6

For the Padres, Colin Dexter was hit-by-a-pitch three times, walked once more for the winning run, made great defensive plays at shortstop and earned the win in relief on the mound. Jake Lord went four-plus strong innings on the mound and had a great day at the plate.

Padres 11 Giants 5

After coming into the game down 3-1 with the bases loaded in the first inning, Mike Cawthron pitched five innings, giving up one run while striking out eight and Peyton Adams finished off the sixth to give the Padres the win. Charlie McKelvey ripped his first base hit of the season and also walked twice. Zack Gauthier was superb at first base.

Padres 13 Mariners 4

For the second straight game the Padres were able to get five innings out of one of their pitchers – this time with Peyton Adams coming through with a big performance, striking out seven and giving up two runs thanks to some solid defense behind him.

Mike Cawthron was flawless at second base and Peyton made a few nice plays off the mound while going 3 for 3 with two walks at the plate. Jack O’Malley ripped two shots to right field, including a towering shot well over the right fielders head. Colin Dexter closed the game out in the sixth by striking out the side.

MAJORS

NW Royals 5, North Diamondback 0

Michael Muchemore pitched four solid innings with eight strikeouts, Connor Mullaly pitched two great innings as the Royals went to 10-1 on the season. Alex Richard had a key two-run double, Patrick Carr added a hit with a double by Skye Boykins.

NW Braves 11, NW Orioles 8

The Orioles were offensive by Trevor Kelly and Will Rommell with two hits each. Kushal Shah added a base hit and hit the ball hard each time at bat. Trevor Kelly and Ben Shea pitched well for the Orioles who couldn’t avoid that one bad inning. The Braves got good pitching from Jeremiah Latham, Noah Ouellette and Austin Ouellette. Offensively, the Braves got some timely hits from Chris Inzerillo, Devin Brasil, and Noah Ouellette. Great base running inspired by Latham helped rattle the Orioles pitchers.

NW Braves 7, West Cubs 2

Joe Berman pitched a complete-game to lead the NW Braves to victory over the West Cubs. Berman threw strikes all night and held the Cubs to two runs on three hits. The Braves played their best defensive game of the season. Chris Inzerillo had to play second base, not his normal position, and stepped in as if he had been playing there the whole season.

AAA

Northwest Orioles 14, North White Sox 2

Jake Harp made his pitching debut with a solid performance and Zaki Quereshy paced the Orioles offense scoring twice and driving in two more with his bat. Alexis Mills turned in another impressive performace on the mound for the White Sox striking out 4 over 3 innings. The Orioles dominated at the plate with hard hits by Varun Lingadal and Josh Blood backed by great defense from Nate Harp, Hayden Brooks and Zaki Quereshy.

NW Braves 12, North Cardinals 10

The Braves were paced by the outstanding pitching of Peter Bowe and Brendon Gaffney and were paced by clutch hitting from Andrew Schott and Liam Novak. The Cardinals’ Eddie Santiago was fantastic and smashed a bases-clearing triple to keep it close.

NW Orioles 10, North Cardinals 8

Alex Deshaw and Gavin Belesca pitched solid for the Cardinals and the team put on an early defensive display stopping the Orioles cold. However, backed by deep drives by Stephen Loranger, Isaac Bates and Hayden Brooks, the Orioles drove in nine runs in the second and third capped by solid hitting at the plate from Nate Harp and a deep triple from Varun Lingadal. Eddie Santiago and Belesca led the Cardinals with their bats before Shaan Quereshy stopped the Cardinals late drive, notching the win for the Orioles.

STREET HOCKEY

Combined Elm St.-Nashua Catholic squad wins in finale

The threat of rain forced the final week of Nashua Police Athletic League street hockey from the outside rink to inside the gym at the Boys and Girls Club, but that didn’t reduce the intensity of play as Sgt. Joe Molinari’s combined Elm St. Middle School/Nashua Catholic Jr. High team topped Officer Anthony Murray’s Fairgrounds Middle School squad 11-7.

Elm St./NCJH peppered Fairgrounds goalie Zack Torla in the first period, netting five goals (four from Ryan Montbleau, one from Ethan Michaud), but the Falcons’ Brandon Rand single-handedly kept Fairgrounds in the contest with five first period goals of his own.

In the second period, Dawson Fortier replaced Sean Feenan as the Fairgrounds goaltender, but Elm St./NC scored five more goals, (three by Feenan, one from Michaud and another by Montbleau. Elm St/NC goalie Austin Pennypacker made four saves in the middle period, allowing two more Rand goals. Rand moved into the net in the third period, coming up with 10 saves. Feenan scored one final goal to seal the season finale.

PAL Officer Karen Becotte commended BGCGN Athletic Director Mohammed Kargbo for his officiating over the six-game season, noting, “As hard as these middle schoolers go at it, Mohammed always somehow keeps it under control. We’re all looking forward to next year’s season already.”
