Northwest Mets 4, Northwest Orioles 2

The Northwest Orioles got great pitching and great fielding from that position, as well, from Timmy Robinson for two innings and Trevor Kelly for three more. The Orioles couldn’t adjust to the off-speed pitching of Zack Pounaris, who went all six innings for the Mets. Kushal Shah and Tyler Moraros contributed some heads up defensive plays in the late innings for the Orioles in defeat.

North Diamondbacks 10, Northwest Braves 1

The North Diamondbacks combined for 12 hits in the win. The Braves were only able to get three hits on the day, one of which was a line shot by Chris Inzerillo to drive in the Braves’ only run of the day.

Northwest Royals 2, West Braves 0

Connor Mullaly pitched a complete-game, no-hitter. He only allowed one batter to reach base and that was on a error. Alex Richard made the defensive play of the game in the bottom of the fifth, robbing the West Braves of a hit. Richard also scored the winning run. Patrick Carr had two hits on the night.

Northwest Braves 6, Northwest Orioles 2

Strong pitching and solid defense were the keys to victory for the NW Braves. Jeremiah Latham, Noah Ouellette and Joe Berman combined for the win on the hill. Latham reached base three times and scored twice. Ouellette also reached base three times and scored once.

West Diamondbacks 12, Northwest Orioles 1

Once again the game was close for three innings but the Orioles couldn’t generate any offense and struggled with pitching in the middle innings. Nevan Roy did get his first major league hit and James Hogan Hines helped turn a double play for the Orioles in defeat.

West Orioles 3, Northwest Braves 2

The Braves jumped out on top with Jeremiah Latham scoring for the Braves to take an early 1-0 lead. The Orioles answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs. Chris Inzerillo led off the top of the third with a single, then Latham followed with a single and Joe Berman walked to load the bases. Inzerillo ended up scoring on a hard hit single by Nate Nugent. That was as close as the Braves would get. Nugent kept the Braves in the game pitching a scoreless three innings.

South Giants 10, South Phillies 5

The Giants defeated the Phillies behind the pitching of CJ Mellen and Mike Levasseur, who combined for 14 strikeouts. The score was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning; however, the Giants broke the game open with six runs. Nic Stockman pitched a complete game for the Phillies with 7 strikeouts. The Giants’ offense was led by Owen Shea (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Andrew Penkala (2-for-3, walk, RBI), Owen Mooso and Zach Frye. The Phillies received solid games from Jack Leatherman (2 walks, 3 stolen bases, 2 runs), Stockman, Ben Lugo, Tyler Arnesan and Tyler Gouveia.

South Orioles 6, South A’s 2

The first two innings showcased the pitching from both teams, with Keenan Dwyer (Orioles) facing seven batters, and Johnny Zanzerkia (A’s) facing nine batters. The Orioles scored first behind Ryan Kozyra and Dwyer (double). The Orioles received additional offense from Chad Hult (2-for-3), Nick Perkins (2-for-3) and Chase Hart. The A’s came alive and took the lead in the fifth with runs scored by Derek Downing and Stephen McLendon. The A’s also received a big day at the plate from Ryan North (2-for-3). The Orioles fought back, sending 10 batters to the plate in the last inning and scored five runs. Zach Finkelstein closed the game for the Orioles.

South Royals 5, South Rockies 2

In the top of the first inning, the Royals put up three runs on hits from Alex Amigo (2 hits) and Luke Anzel. The Royals scored again in the second with hits by Noah Telerski and Owen Amigo (double) to take a 4-1 lead. In the third inning, the Rockies’ Austin Long led off with a single and eventually scored to make it 4-2. In the top of the sixth inning, the Royals scored their final run with a line drive from Steve Signorello and hits by Mike Fournier and Matt Savoia (2 hits).

South Orioles 5, South Giants 2

The Giants came out swinging with a lead-off triple by Riley Bourque; however, the Orioles flashed their gloves when Nick Perkins made a great play on Andrew Penkala’s shot to first, then fired home to nail Bourque at the plate. The Orioles scored a few runs over the next few innings with smart baserunning, a sacrifice bunt by Cam Paquette and a fielder’s choice from Zach Finkelstein. The Giants scored a couple runs on hits by Bourque, Jacob Wilcox and CJ Mellen. The Orioles’ Paquette and Finkelstein took the mound to pitch back-to-back scorless innings against the Giants’ top of the order, preserving the win.

South Royals 12, South Phillies 3

Matt Savoia hit his first career home run for the Royals. The Phillies got on the board inthe first as Nic Stockman walked and eventually scored. The Royals answered in the bottom half of the inning as Owen Amigo hit his fourth homer of the year, followed by singles from Steve Signorello and Alex Parrott. The Royals kept hitting, as Mike Fournier and Parrott each had two hits and Owen Amigo hit his second home run of the game (grand slam). The pitching for the Royals was terrific as Owen Amigo pitched the first two innings, striking out six – followed by Harper Niven (three strikeouts), Savoia (three strikeouts) and Alex Amigo. In the sixth, the Phillies got their only hit of the game, a double by Stockman.

AAA

Northwest Orioles 9, Northwest Braves 8

The Braves jumped out to an early seven-run lead on timely hitting and two Orioles errors and held their lead until the sixth backed by an impressive seven-strikeout performance by Peter Bowe through 41?3 innings. The pitchers’ duel continued as Isaac Bates recorded five lights-out innings on the mound with an impressive 10 strikeout performance. Lexis Gayac led the Orioles late-inning comeback with a three-run homer to deep left center field and Zaki Quereshy sparked the Orioles with a spectacular performance with both the bat and the glove. In the end, the Orioles pulled off the win in the bottom of the sixth as Isaac Bates crossed the plate.

South Cardinals 13, South Astros 3

Seth Bridge faced off against Kavim Bhatnagar. The Astros scored first on a single by Brendan Choate. Bhatnagar evened the score by driving in Robby Pavlas. In the second the Astros worked the bases loaded and plated another run as Derek Chaivelli crossed the plate. In the bottom of the second inning the Cardinals added three more runs, highlighted by Addy Gandhi’s double. Nathan Cormier took the mound for the Cardinals in the third inning and pitched well. In their half of the third the Cardinals offense exploded with eight runs. The Astros battled back in the fourth with Mason Linscott leading the effort by smashing a double to center and later scoring.

South Rockies 11, South Astros 10

Andrew Patno took the mound in the first inning for the Rockies and allowed hits to Tyler Linscott and Seth Bridge. Anthony Ceci pitched for the Astros and surrendered five runs and two hits from Timmy Eaton and Parker Obenhofer (double).

The Astros came roaring back and took the lead with four runs, highlighted by Brenden Choate’s double. Jake Smith was on the mound for the Rockies, finishing the inning with two timely strikeouts. In the bottom of the second, the Rockies regained the lead with two runs. Jake Smith closed it out for the Rockies and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

MINORS

South Orioles 4, South Athletics 3

The A’s jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a single from Austin Bourque. The score would stay that way until the bottom of the third when Brandon Metivier and Brandon Yan had back-to-back singles to make it 2-1. The A’s would battle back with single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings with RBI hits from Kevin Hayes and Alex Esquivel to make the score 3-2. After some tough at bats and working a few walks to tie the game up, Alyssa-Ann Johnson came through with a clutch walk-off single to win the game for the Orioles.

South Orioles 10, South Athletics 6

The Orioles’ Brandon Metivier and Chris Keefe both pitched well. In the 3rd inning James Deichmann came on to face the Orioles. Henry Grabowski took the mound for his first time ever. In the top of the 4th the Orioles loaded the bases again on walks to Todd Arndorfer, Camden Cole and Joshua Lentine before Grabowski was hit for the second time in the game to score the go-ahead run.

GIRLS SOCCER

U10: NWC beats Hooksett Select

Nashua World Cup defeated Hooksett Select. Arianna Motivala scored two goals, while Ciara Reilly and Olivia Hilger each scored a goal. Xitially Garcia, Krysta Mack and Katie Carr contributed offensively and Erin Jussaume and Kendall Bush played strong defense.

U10: NWC tops Londonderry

Nashua World Cup came from behind to defeat Londonderry by one goal. Erin Jussaume, Olivia Hilger, Arianna Motivala and Katie Carr scored goals for World Cup. World Cup’s Krysta Mack held strong in goal, stopping many shots to record the victory.

BOYS LACROSSE

U13: Nashua Blast C 10, Bow 3

The Nashua Blast U13C faced off against Bow, utilizing good ball movement on offense and solid defense to come away with a 10-3 victory. Will Haller led the offensive attack for the Blast with a hat trick and Connor Prangley had a pair of assists along with one goal. Nick Hebert also found the back of the net twice. Cyrus Forcier and Matt Lambalot both had solo goals and an assist each. Andrew Lacroix and Nick Page tallied the other Blast goals, Matt Bodi also assisted on one of the goals. Lucas Daigle, Nikki Cheung and Jacob Holmes each had a solid defensive game, in support of goalies James Petz and Ian Read.

GIRLS LACROSSE

U13: Nashua Blast 13, Concord 12

New between the pipes, Mikayla Flesch made some amazing saves. Delia Blondeau, Gabrielle Masseur and Danielle Upton led the offense. Madison Owen and Alena Masterson were stong defensively.

The Blast also played in the Longmeadow (Mass.) Jamboree on May 14. They played Longmeadow, Agawam, Adirondak and North Hampton. Katie Tibando was strong in goal. Katie English had a great day on both offense and defense, while Ashley Jolicoeur, Grace Tamposi, Jenna Tingley, Lindsay Holmes and Olivia Koutsas all played well.

U11: Concord 7, Nashua Blast 3

Alyssa DeCarteret and Zoe Fillebrown split time in the Blast’s cage and each made several nice saves. Despite strong defensive efforts throughout the morning from Hannah Fortin, Abby Rowe, Campbell Haller, Calley Goulet, Britney Pearson, Emma Pucillo and Caroline Sweet, Concord showed excellent passing skills and managed to put the ball in the net.

Doing a great job on face-offs were Julia Gagnon, Emma Pucillo, Abby Rowe and Hannah Fortin. The offense for the Blast was fueled by Kelsie Leith, Kaylie Keegan, Julia Sullivan, Alison Hartshorn, Payson Mooso and Alexis Trudel. Zoe Fillebrown scored in the first half on a great pass by Julia Gagnon. Kirsten McIntire had two goals in the second half to keep the Blast in the game.

STREET HOCKEY

Fairgrounds winning streak snapped

In Nashua Police Athletic League street hockey action, a combined Elm St./Nashua Catholic Jr. High team finally ended Fairgrounds Middle School’s winning streak with a 10-9 victory at the outdoor street hockey rink at the Boys and Girls Club.

Working in front of three different goaltenders, the Fairgrounds team, coached by Nashua Police Sgt. Joe Molinari managed nine goals (first period hat trick, four total goals by Brandon Rand, four goals by Bryan Connolly, and a goal by Zack Torla).

Torla, Dawson Foitier and Mark Othot handled Fairgrounds’ goalkeeping duties. Josh Barron was the full-time goalkeeper for the Elm St./NC squad. Austin Pennypacker and Cameron Hult had hat tricks, with follow up goals by Ryan Montbleau and John Izzarelli. Sgt. Molinari pulled the Fairgrounds goalie to try to tie the score late in the third period, but to no avail.

“Another competitive contest decided by a single goal,” referee and PAL Officer Karen Becotte said, “but the Fairgrounds string has finally run out.”

BASKETBALL

Flames earn spot at national tournament

The New Hampshire Flames fifth graders won the state championship on May 15 and are now headed to the Nationals in Virginia on June 27.

In Game 1, the Flames beat the Manchester Miracles 45-25. The Flames followed that up with wins over the NE Crusaders (38-24), Seacoast Shooters (45-10) and NE Crusaders (23-21) in the title game.

Members of the state championship Flames are Sabrina Johnson, Marissa Gaudette, Nicole Haney, Heather Bridge, Shardeia Spearman, Abby Yuan, Gabi Sott, Molly Beaulieu, Joanna Balsamo, Alana Choate, Mikayla Downing, Courtney Schaub, head coach Bob Johnson, assistant coach Dave Schaub and bookkeeper Jon Downing.

U13 Flames second at state tourney

The New Hampshire Flames eighth graders participated in their first State Tournament and finished second overall.

The Flames went 3-1 leading up to the championship game. They lost a tough championship game. Members of the runner-up state squad are Rachel Schwartz, Kelsey Golemo, Janelle Magoon, Holly Gaudet, Grace Mulvey, Lily Coppinger, Olivia Pierce, Kayleigh Phillips, Ariel Wood, Mallory McCabe, Michaela Thomas, Meghan Feenan, coach Andrew Pierce and coach Mike Phillips.

SOFTBALL

U12 Majors: Hollis Velocity plays a pair of games

The Hollis Velocity beat Bedford 17-14 and fell to Brookline 9-8 over the last week.

Against Bedford, the Velocity offense was led by Sydney Folz and Carly Mack, who each got on base three times. Emilie Tousignant, Cassandra Reijgers and Audra Paradie were on base twice each. Reijgers also was impressive behind the plate.

In the loss to Brookline, Tousignant was strong in the pitcher’s circle for over three innings and Mack in the last inning. Hollis’ offense was led by Folz and Isabelle Keefe, who were on base twice each. Mack had two hits, while Skylar Mack and Amanda McDonough had a hit apiece. Tori Lange made a very nice defensive play at second base.

FIGURE SKATING

Gate City FSC’s annual show set for June 4

Gate City Figure Skating Club’s annual spring show “Party Time” will take place at Conway Arena on Saturday, June 4 at 1 p.m.

Over 100 skaters will be performing, including guest skaters Marissa Castelli and Simon Schnapir, who are Pairs National and International Competitors and members of Team USA. The $5 tickets are available at the door.
