Orioles 7, Rockies 4

The Orioles kicked off the 2011 season with an exciting win over the Rockies. The Rockies received solid pitching from Carter Cormier and big offensive performances from Adam Robinson, Cormier, Devin Gates and Austin Long. The Orioles received big games from Keenan Dwyer, Zach Torla, Cam Paquette, Nick Perkins and Chad Hult (home run). Trevor Hult closed out the game for the Orioles.

Royals 11, Orioles 6

The Royals defeated the Orioles behind the efforts of Owen Amigo, Harper Niven and Steven Signorello, who each pitched well. At the plate, the Royals received big nights from Owen Amigo (home run), Luke Anzel, Nick Auriana, Alex Parrott and Mike Fournier. The Orioles received solid games from Keenan Dwyer, Ryan Kozyra, Zack Torla and Zack Finkelstein.

A’s 6, Phillies 3

The A’s and Phillies faced off for the first time this season. Max Coffin (three strikeouts) and Nick Stockman (one) took the mound for three innings each for the Phillies. For the A’s, Stephen Mclendon pitched three innings with five strikeouts, while Johnny Zanzerkia (four) and Tyler North (one) also pitched well. The A’s were led offensively by Derek Downing (double, two runs) and Nathan Fallon. The Phillies collected hits from Max Coffin and Ben Lugo.

Royals 11, Rockies 5

The Royals offense was very effective, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits. The Royals’ offense received contributions from Luke Anzel (3 for 3), Mike Fournier (3 for 3), Alex Amigo, Steve Signorello, Alex Parrott, Matt Savoia and Owen Amigo (home run). The Rockies were held to two hits, but still managed to put up five runs. Carter Cormier knocked in two runs with a double in the second inning and Alec Juknievich had the Rockies other hit.

A’s 9, Phillies 3

The A’s continued their winning ways with an impressive 9-3 win over the Phillies. Pitching was the key again for the A’s as Stephen McLendon and Johnny Zanzerkia were brilliant on the mound surrendering just one hit. Nick Stockman pitched well for the Phillies. The A’s received good offensive production from Cameron Bisson and Nathan Fallon, who each got hits and drove in a run.

A’s 5, Giants 2

The A’s earned a hard-fought game against the Giants. Both teams played great defense and received superb pitching. Michael Levasseur pitched well for the Giants, going all six inning and striking out 10 batters. Andrew Penkala led the Giants’ offense with two hits and a run. CJ Mellon and Owen Shea also contributed to the offense. Owen Mooso played great behind the plate. The A’s received outstanding pitching from Stephen McLendon, Spencer Durand and Ryan North. Pacing the A’s offense was Johnny Zanzerkia, who collected three hits, including a triple. Spencer Durand collected two RBIs. Tyler North scored once and Ryan North scored twice.

Giants 19, Rockies 8

The Giants received offensive contributions from every player. Leading the Giants were Mike Levasseur (3 for 3, three RBIs), Riley Bourque (3 for 4, two RBIs), Owen Shea (3 for 5, three RBIs), and Andrew Penkala (2 for 3, two RBIs). Also collecting hits for the Giants were CJ Mellon and Jacob Wilcox. Mellon pitched six innings and recorded 12 strikeouts. The Rockies received solid games from Alec Juknievich (3 for 3), Carter Cormier (2 for 2), Vince Annicchiarico, Sinjin Doeurk, and Anthony Yan. On the mound, the Rockies received good outings from Cormier, Yan, Juknievich, and Adam Robinson, who combined for eight strikeouts.

AAA

Cardinals 5, Astros 4

The Cardinals hosted the Astros in their first game of the season. Kavim Bhatnagar, Nathan Cormier, Robby Pavlas and John Miles all pitched well in the victory. At the plate, the Cards received contributions from Brenden Trombley (double), Cormier, Pavlas, and Joe Handy. The Astros received good performances from TJ Gillis, Tyler Linscott, Anthony Ceci and Seth Bridge.

Giants 9, A’s 0

The Giants defeated the A’s behind solid pitching from Brendan Auriana, Nolan Foss and Chris Haley. Offensively, the Giants received big games from Eren LaBonte (2 for 3) and Foss (3 for 3). Also contributing to the offense were Sam Malignaggi, Josh Bailey, Haley and Auriana. The A’s received a big day from Adam Paquette, who went 2 for 2. On the mound, the A’s received solid performances from Casey Mcnally, Tyler Bernard, and Roe Hendrick.

Rockies 6, Cardinals 2

The Rockies defeated the Cardinals in an exciting extra inning game. The Rockies were led offensively by Parker Obenhofer, Andrew Patno (double), Jake Smith (triple), Andres Hulfachor (triple), Alexx Patno and Matt Frye. The Rockies also received solid pitching from Obenhofer, Andrew Patno, Smith, and Hulfachor. The Cardinals got a double from Robby Pavlas and good pitching performances from Kavim Bhatnagar, Pavlas, Nathan Cormier and John Miles.

NW Orioles 0

The Braves scored early and often. Braves pitchers Tim Brown, Mike Pelletier, and Gavin Pelletier combined on a no-hitter. Gavin Pelletier lead the offense with four hits (two doubles) and seven RBIs. Mike Pelletier, Steve Lambert (three runs) and Brown (three runs) all had two hits. Shawn Boudreau, Larry Lassiter and Gaven Forcier all scored twice and Rocco Restalli drove in a pair of runs.

West Braves 2,

West Diamondbacks 1

The Braves edged the Diamondbacks 2-1 in an exciting game where the Braves defense came up big in the final two innings to preserve the win. Leftfielder Gaven Forcier threw out a runner at third base to end one threat, and catcher Tim Brown gunned down another potential game-tying run in the sixth trying to steal third. Larry Lassiter got the win on the mound, striking out 11 over five innings and scattering three hits. Gavin Pelletier came on in the sixth inning to close the game out and get the save. Mike Pelletier drove in what would turn out to be the winning run with a single to score Gavin Pelletier.

West Braves 11,

NW Orioles 1

The Braves broke open a close game late against a young Orioles team. Shawn Boudreau reached base four times (two singles) and also drove in a pair of runs. Gavin Pelletier blasted a two-run home run along with pitching two shutout innings.

Tim Brown got the win on the mound with a pair of shutout innings and also scored three runs. Mike Pelletier had a pair of RBIs while both Nick Quirion and Steve Lambert both reached base twice. Rookie Vince Priore collected his first major league hit and scored once.

NH Spartans win four titles

NH Spartans AAU boys basketball shined again last weekend catching a program-high four New Hampshire State Championship titles. The winning teams include a fourth-grade team, a fifth-grade team and a sixth-grade team that practice out of the SportsZone in Derry, and a ninth-grade team from Portsmouth. The Spartans also had a second-place seventh-grade team, and an eighth-grade team and 10th-grade team that finished in the semifinals.

The Spartans sixth-grade team was one of the most successful in the program this season. On the back of Clayton Crowell, who averaged 30 points and 11 rebounds for the tournament, the Spartans kept momentum to easily roll into the NH State Championship game against a tough Manchester YMCA team. With 30 seconds to play and the score even, Cam Reddy scored on a put-back of a missed free-throw to take the lead. After some tough defensive stops and a big foul-shot by Ryan Boehm, Sam Anderson stole an inbound pass with 5five seconds left to clinch the game.

The sixth-grade team includes Amherst residents Boehm, Crowell and Erik Richardson, Connor Lambert of Hudson, Andrew Spurr of Litchfield and Erik Brown of Bedford.

The Spartans fourth-grade team marks the youngest state champion in program history, as it defeated NH Fastbreak to take the title. The fourth-grade team includes Jeffery Boehm of Amherst and Garrett Lambert of Hudson.

The Spartans fifth-grade team was undefeated all year against other fifth grade competition and even knocked off a few sixth grade teams. Despite being a one-point game at halftime, the Spartans turned it on in the second half to beat NH Fastbreak for the championship.

The fifth-grade team includes David Bonnette of Hollis, Daniel Castellano of Litchfield, Cole Glennon of Bedford and Hudson’s Connor Lambert and Colin O’Neil.

The Spartans ninth-grade team from Portsmouth was undefeated all season and captured its second state title in three years.
