Blast U13 beat Abenaki

Nashua Blast lacrosse U13 girls won their most recent game with a final score was Nashua 10, Abenaki 7. Leading the scoring for Nashua was Jenna Tingley with 3 goals. Playing strong offense were Linsay Holmes, Arrianna Mohler and Danielle Upton. Keeping the defense strong were Sarah Roscoe, Kattie Tibando and Seirra Mullen in goal with numerous great saves. Next game is on April 23, in Laconia at 9:45 a.m.

Blast U11 cut it close

Nashua Blast U11 girls dropped a close one to Abenaki Lacrosse (Wolfeboro) 7-5 in season opener at Stellos Stadium.

The Blast was first on the board, thanks to a goal by veteran Julia Gagnon, assisted by rookie Britney Pearson. Gagnon also contributed to another Blast goal by retrieving a ground ball in the defensive end and making a great pass to Campbell Haller. Haller then found Hannah Fortin for the goal.

Kirsten Rourke, Zoe Fillebrown and first-year player Kaylie Keegan all notched goals for Nashua as well. Minding the nets for the Blast were returning players Zoe Fillebrown and Abby Rowe.

The ladies in purple look to even their win loss column as they travel to Laconia next Saturday.

Blast U15B overtakes Cannons

The Nashua Blast U15B boys lacrosse team beat the Londonderry Cannons U15B team by a score of 4-2 in a tough defensive battle. The Blast were led by Tom Haller, who scored 2 goals. Garett Bozek and Nick LaBate each added a goal. Also playing well in the offensive zone was Jake Redman, Mike Osgood, Max Serra, Collin Morrow, Andrew Dahl, Zachary Anzel, Ryan Guidaboni, Nick Tamposi and Casey Fisher. The defense was led by goalie Brian McKinley, who made 12 saves and held the Cannons to 2 goals. Other standouts on defense were Mike DuBien, Andrew DeCarteret, Tyler Searles, Christian Sewell, Scotty Costa and Joey Tibando.

Amherst Patriots noted at state level

The State of New Hampshire recognized the Pop Warner Little Scholars in a banquet. Athletes are considered Little Scholars if they achieve the average grade of 96 percent or higher in the previous school year. The Patriots had 23 participants recognized at the event with Liam Greene, Henry Boyle and Nick Zell all receiving scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,500.

“Pop Warner prides itself on being more than just an athletic organization,” said Drew Zell, president of the Amherst Patriots. “The Little Scholars program is one of the things that sets it apart from other youth sports organizations in the state. Not only do we hold the players to a minimum grade level to participate, we really try to recognize and award academic excellence in our football players and cheerleaders.”

Little Scholars for the Patriots include: Henry Boyle, Liam Greene, Matthew Katsigianis, Ryan Klausner, Jacob Lacaillade, Miranda Moscatelli, Connor Parkinson, Kara Bossi, Alexander Burnley, Foster Burnley, Kailah Cox, Trace Hennas, Ryan Hill, Jacob Parkinson, Daniel Smith, Samantha Speer, Tim Hinrichs, Nick Zell, Blake Karavas, Matt Saunders, Max VanLokeren, Kevin O’Sullivan and Sam St. Pierre.

Girls U10 defeat Classics

The Nashua Girls U10 soccer team defeated the NH Classics 6–0 in the season opener for both teams. Arianna Motivala had three goals for Nashua, while Olivia Hilger, Xitially Garcia and Kendall Bush also scored. Erin Jussaume, Kendra Faxon and Ciara Reilly played well for World Cup. Goal keeper Katie Carr shut out the Classics.

GYMNASTICS

Mahgoub competes for state champ

Aya Mahgoub, 13, of Nashua, in her fist year of level 10 “Junior A” division, competed for the state of Masschusates at Regional Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, April 16.

Aya won vault, competing Yurchenko Full with a score of 9.35 and came in second on bars with score of 8.925, taking in 7th place All Around. Aya qualified for national championships in California next month as a member of Level 10 Region 6 Team, Junior A.

Aya is trained by Mihai Brestyan at Brestyan’s American Gymnastics club in Burlington, Mass., home of Alicia Scarmone, Olympic silver medalist and world championship vault champion.

NEGTC gymnasts compete in state meet

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson competed in the spring state meet held in Concord on April 9-10. Levels 4-8 competed in this two-day competition. Levels 4,7 and 8 each had first-place winners in the All Around, and all levels had gymnast place in the top 10.

Level 4 (ages 6-7)

Courtney Hannes, Tyngsboro, Mass., placed 23rd All Around with a score of 34.400. She received a 9.45 on Vault (8th), 8.15 on Bars (19th T), 8.425 on Beam (16th), 8.375 on Floor (18th).

Sophia Fonseca, Londonderry, placed 24th All Around with a score of 34.025. She received a 8.725 on Vault (22nd), 8.85 on Bars (10th T), 7.9 on Beam (21st), 8.55 on Floor (14th T).

Level 4 (age 8)

Jenna Tracey, Litchfield, placed 17th All Around with a score of 35.325 She received a 9.0 on Vault (20th T), 8.75 on Bars (13th T), 8.775 on Beam (14th), 8.8 on Floor (15th).

Chloe Catino, Windham, placed 29th All Around with a score of 34.200. She received a 8.95 on Vault (22nd), 8.75 on Bars (13th T), 7.95 on Beam (26th), 8.55 on Floor (21st).

Level 4 (ages 9-10)

Isabella Bruno, Litchfield, tied for 12th All Around with a score of 35.850. She received a 9.1 on Vault (12th), 9.175 on Bars (10th T), 8.475 on Beam (18th T), 9.1 on Floor (3rd).

Rebecca Genoter, Pelham, placed 13th All Around with a score of 35.825. She received a 8.725 Vault (24th), 9.325 on Bars (7th), 8.775 on Beam (11th), 9.0 on Floor (5th T).

Rachael Lavalle, Pelham, placed 1st All Around with a score of 37.125. She received a 9.45 on Vault (1st), 9.45 on Bars (1st), 9.175 on Beam (1st), 9.05 on Floor (2nd T).

Abigali Guilfoil, Nashua, placed 9th All Around with a score of 35.000. She received a 9.075 on Vault (2nd T), 8.425 on Bars (9th), 8.325 on Beam (9th), 9.175 on Floor (6th).

Fargrounds takes week 2 shootout

In Nashua Police Athletic League (PAL) Street Hockey action, Fairgrounds Middle School advanced to 2-0 with a 6-5 overtime win over Nashua Catholic Junior High at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua’s outdoor street hockey rink. Both squads, coached by Nashua Police Lt. John Fisher, Sgt. Michael Ledoux, Patrolmen Joe Johnson and Geoffrey Rogan and “PAL Officer” Karen Becotte, were reinforced with players from Elm St. Middle School.

Mark Othot and Zack Torla split netminding duties for Fairgrounds. Torla also scored a goal, while Brian Connolly put four into the net. Nashua Catholic goalkeepers Sean Feenan and Camron Hunt held Fairgrounds to a tie in regulation but couldn’t manage to stop Dawson Fortier’s overtime shootout goal for Fairgrounds. NCJH goals were scored by Hult (hat trick), Ethan Michaud and Elm Street’s Austin Pennypacker, following up his five-goal opening day performance.

BGCGN Athletic Director Mohammed Kargbo pointed out, “Fairgrounds is picking up right where they left off last year, stringing the wins together.” Offered on Friday afternoons on April and May by the Nashua Police Athletic League and BGCGN, in collaboration with the 21st Century Foundation, teams have formed and continue to form at each of Nashua’s middle schools. Parks and Rec seeking 2 coaches

The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department is seeking two coaches for the 16-18-year-old Senior Babe Ruth Baseball Division, which plays in the New Hampshire Southern League. Coaches should have prior coaching experience and must be able to commit to practices and games between May 20 and July 15. Teams in the league include Keene, Souhegan, Monadnock, Walpole, Salem, Londonderry, Hollis/Brookline and three Nashua teams. Travel is required for these positions. MYA to elect executive board

The Merrimack Youth Association (MYA) will be having elections for positions on the executive board on May 12 at the MYA Building. The nominating committee is now accepting names for the following two-year terms: President, Treasurer, Secretary and Member at-Large.
