NSG second at state meet

Nashua School of Gymnastics Level 4 team finished seconnd at the USAG Jr. Olympics States Meet held at NHTI over the weekend of April 9. Levels 4 through 6 were outstanding in their final meet of this season.

LEVEL 4

Age Group 6-7

Corey Foster finished with an All Around of 37.55 (3rd). She earned 9.675 (2nd) on vault, 9.375 (2nd) on bars, 9.25 (3rd) on beam, and 9.25 (1st) on floor.

Samantha Gates finished with an All Around of 35.75 (11th). She earned 9.25 (11th) on vault, 9.15 (6th) on bars, 8.30 on beam, and 9.05 (5th) on floor.

Kaitlyn West finished with an All Around of 34.975. She earned 9.525 (6th) on vault, 8.80 (11th) on bars, 8.125 on beam, and 8.525 on floor.

Age Group 8

Lilly Brooks finished with an All Around of 35.175. She earned 9.175 (15th) on vault, 8.10 on bars, 9.00 (9th) on beam, and 8.90 (12th) on floor.

Sarah St Laurence finished with an All Around of 35.05. She earned 9.025 on vault, 8.50 (16th) on bars, 8.50 on beam, and 9.025 (9th) on floor.

Age Group 9

Emily Colburn finished with an All Around of 38.125 (1st). She earned 9.70 (1st) on vault, 9.475 (3rd) on bars, 9.60 (1st) on beam, and 9.35 (1st) on floor.

Breanna Vivier finished with an All Around of 36.125 (10th). She earned 9.225 (8th) on vault, 8.75 on bars, 9.10 (5th) on beam, and 9.05 (4th) on floor.

Emma Lynch finished with an All Around of 35.50 (16th). She earned 9.375 (3rd) on vault, 8.675 on bars, 8.75 (12th) on beam, and 8.70 (16th) on floor.

Sara Thomas finished with an All Around of 31.625. She earned 7.75 on vault, 8.40 on bars, 7.125 on beam and 8.35 on floor.

Age Group 10

Hannah Speight finished with an All Around of 34.575 (9th). She earned 9.375 (3rd) on vault, 8.25 on bars 8.20 on beam, and 8.75 (8th) on floor.

Reece Greenleaf finished with an All Around of 34.525. She earned 9.10 (8th) on vault, 8.00 on bars, 8.775 (7th) on beam, and 8.65 on floor.

LEVEL 5

Jenna Hantula finished with an All Around of 35.3 (7th). She earned 8.725 (10th) on vault, 8.15 on bars, 9.45 (1st) on beam, and 8.975 (8th) on floor

Kyelin King-Elalaoui finished with an All Around of 31.45, She earned 8.475 (16th) on vault, 6.10 on bars, 8.225 on beam and 8.65 on floor.

LEVEL 6

Age Group 9-10

Devon Rosier finished with an All Around of 30.975. She earned 8.525 on vault, 7.00 on bars, 8.450 on beam and 7.00 on floor.

Age Group 11-12

Kayla Townsend finished with an All Around of 33.775. She earned 8.350 on vault, 8.650 (11th) on bars, 8.100 on beam and 8.675 (11th) on floor.

Blake Boulia finished with an All Around of 33.50. She earned 8.775 (7th) on vault, 7.65 on bars, 8.675 (11th) on beam and 8.40 on floor.

HOCKEY

Hollis Squirt 1 wraps up season

In Valley League Youth Hockey playoff action the Hollis Cavaliers Squirt 1 team ended their playoff run with a loss in the semifinals.

In opening round action, the Cavs looked to avenge a loss to the Maine Gladiators a few weeks previous. After regulation play the teams had battled to a 3-3 tie and the overtime period proved to be just as exciting. In the shootout round, Cavs’ sniper Max Sears notched two tallies to give the Cavs the win. Goalie Ben Goolsby was outstanding in net stopping all shooters in the second round of the shootout.

In the semifinals, the Cavs run for the gold came up short in a 5-2 loss to Nashoba Squirt 1. The offensive lines of Isaac Rogers/TJ Vitullo/Max Sears and Trent Costa/Jonathan Young/Maddie Pitre played well but could not penetrate a tough Nashoba goalie. The Cavs defensive pairs of Alec MacEachen/Dean Poulin, Max Porter/Sean Kelly and goalie Ben Goolsby were strong throughout the game.

Nashua Mite 1 wins VLB North Division

The Nashua Panthers Mite 1 team came from behind to win the Valley League Blue North Division championship by a score of 3-2 over Methuen, Mass. Starting the third period down by a goal, Will Kenney completed his hat trick to put the game away with just under 5 minutes to go. Michael Dodge and Nolan Foss added assists, while Cody Sheedy was solid in goal and preserved the lead with a spectacular leg save in the closing minutes. Nashua earned a spot in the championship game by defeating Arlington, Mass., and Marblehead, Mass., to reach the finals.

The Mite 1’s, made up of 7 and 8 year olds from Nashua and the surrounding towns, went into the final weekend of the regular season in last place out of 8 teams, ripping off five straight wins to finish on top of a very competitive division. Also playing hard in the finals and contributing heavily to the championship season were Dominic Carozza, Brian Chisholm, Anthony Derosa, Evan Hall, Michael Jolicoeur, Nolan Lacroix, Sean Morrissey, Joey Pillsbury and Ryan Scanlon.

CAMPS

Nashua summer camp registration available

Sign-ups for Nashua Parks and Recreation Summer Camps are now being accepted. Registration forms are available at all Nashua private and public schools at the main office, Nashua Public Library, City Clerks Office at City Hall, Jeannotte’s Market, Bright Spot Convenience Store and at the Recreation Office at Greeley Park. A registration form can be downloaded from the city website at www.gonashua.com as well as a complete listing of all the summer camps being offered. Summer camps include basketball, football, soccer, baseball, drama, volleyball, field hockey, ice hockey, Mighty Hawks Youth Camps, tennis, cheerleading, lacrosse, skateboarding, science camps, and track and field. New camps include archery, strength and conditioning and cooking. Call the recreation office at 589-3370 with any questions.

GID Mound Awareness registration open

GID Baseball will have a mound awareness camp on Sundays April 24, May 1 and May 8. At this camp players learn to field their position while pitching.

Pick off moves, backing up bases, fielding bunts etc. With new Cal Ripken Rules this camp is great for the beginners. Ages 12-up. To sign up, email jcrope1@yahoo.com. Location TBD.

Nashua Park and Recreation swim registration opens soon

The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department has begun taking registrations for summer swim lessons. Session I begins Monday, June 27. Each session is $20 per child and lessons runs two weeks with daily half-hour lessons Monday-Friday at one of three city pools – Centennial Pool on Sargents Avenue, Rotary Pool on Cleveland Street and Crown Hill Pool on Burke Street. Registrations are on a first-come-first-serve basis and all registrations take place at the Recreation Department at Greeley Park at 100 Concord St.

Parents can register for swim lessons by downloading the form off the website at www.gonashua.com or by filling out a registration form at the Rec. Department at Greeley Park. Parents can register for only two sessions until July 1. A third session can be registered for after July 1.

Dates for the three sessions are: Session I – June 27-July 8; Session II – July 18-29; and Session III – Aug. 8-19. Lessons are $20 per child or a maximum of $60 per family per session. Additional swim lesson information, swim level description and pool directions can be found at www.gonashua.com.

Nashua Park and Rec. Spring Walking Program underway

The Spring 2011 Walking Program, sponsored by Southern NH Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Nashua Parks & Recreation, is underway.

Walks are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and all start at 9 a.m. All three days have different meeting places – Mondays walks meet at the Whipple St. entrance to Mine Falls, Wednesdays walks meet at the Lincoln Park Entrance (Coliseum Ave) and Fridays walks meet at the Nashua River Rail Trail in the Gilson St. Parking Lot near Countryside Dr.

All level and ages of walkers are encouraged to participate and this is a great social group where many new friendships are made. Lengths of walks can vary from ½ mile to over 3 miles and there is a group leader for every level.

Walks last approximately one hour and the Spring Walking Program runs through June 3. There is no Walking Program on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
