Gate City club strong at MAWA

The Gate City Wrestling Club, an off-season high-school wrestling team comprised primarily of grapplers from Nashua North, Nashua South and Bishop Guertin high schools and sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, competed last weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association preliminary district tournament at Londonderry High School.

The tournament featured wrestlers from New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Most of the Gate City wrestlers competed in the Advanced (born 1995-96) and Elite (born 1993-94) divisions.

In the Elite division, Mitch Fokas was the champion at 145 pounds, while Joey Page wrestled up and placed second at 160. In the Advanced Division, Tyler Ellwood placed first at 152 pounds, as did Cole Fokas at

115 and Marcel Laplante at 110, all undefeated throughout the day.

Brandon Levesque and Peter Daniels were second and fourth at 125 pounds, respectively. Chris Dube was third at 220. Zack Kemos was third at 130. Evan Manning was second at 150 in the Intermediate Division. Also competing for the Gate City Club were Cam Bennett, Kenny Kiriga, Pat Sands, Chris Dube, Zack Seppi and Andrew Keefe.

The Gate City squad’s freshman/sophomore team will next compete in the New England Novice Monster Duals at the Wadsworth Wrestling Club in Franklin, Mass. on April 23.

HOCKEY

Hollis Cavaliers Squirt 1 Team

In Valley League Youth Hockey action, the Hollis Cavaliers Squirt 1 Team defeated the second-place Newton Tigers Squirt Team by the score of 4-2. The Cavs coaching duo, Darryl MacEachen and Wally Sears, had their team fired up for this final regular season match-up. The Cavs front lines of Isaac Rogers, TJ Vitullo, Parker Mabbet and Trent Costa, Jonathan Young, Max Sears worked the ice beautifully to generate four goals against a strong Newton team.

The Cavs defense pairs of Dean Poulin and Alec MacEachen and Sean Kelly and Max Porter played tough, preventing the Tigers from generating much offense. Goalie Ben Goolsby gave one of his best performances between the pipes.

GYMNASTICS

NEGTC gymnasts shine at Spring Sectional

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson levels 7-8 competed in Amherst at the Spring Sectional No. 2. Gymnasts needed a score of 33.000 or higher to qualify for the up coming state meet.

Girls scores are as follows:

Level 7 (ages 8-11)

Meghan Veino, Nashua, placed first All Around with a score of 36.200.

She received a 8.85 on Vault (4th), 8.85 on Bars (5th), 9.25 on Beam (1st), 9.25 on Floor (1st).

Level 7 (age 12)

Jill McIntire, Londonderry, placed second All Around with a score of 36.650. She received a 9.325 on Vault (1st), 9.025 on Bars (3rd), 8.95 on Beam (1st T), 9.35 on Floor (1st).

Camille Lamont, Londonderry, placed sixth All Around with a score of 33.850. She received a 9.05 on Vault (4th T), 7.25 on Beam (8th),

8.95 on Floor (5th).

Level 7 (ages 13-14)

Amanda Forti, Windham, placed first All Around with a score of 36.500.

She received a 9.125 on Vault (2nd), 8.85 on Bars (1st), 9.325 on Beam (1st), 9.2 on Floor (2nd).

Valerie Boucher, Litchfield, placed second All Around with a score of 36.175. She received a 9.525 on Vault (1st), 8.0 on Bars (3rd), 9.15 on Beam (2nd), 9.5 on Floor (1st).

Level 8 (ages 8-11)

Hailey Reiff, Litchfield, placed first All Around with a score of 36.775. She received a 9.05 on Vault (1st), 9.1 on Bars (1st), 9.2 on Beam (1st), 9.425 on Floor (1st).

Level 8 (age 12)

Abigali Guilfoil, Nashua, placed second All Around with a score of 33.400. She received a 9.3 on Vault (1st), 7.05 on Bars (2nd), 8.05 on Beam (2nd), 9.0 on Floor (1st).

NEGTC boys compete at state championship

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson Boys Competitive Team competed in the NH State Championship. Many top-place individual awards were taken home by gymnasts in all levels. Team awards were as follows: Level 4 took home a second-place team award. Level 5 took home second-place team award.

Ben Steele, Londonderry, placed first with an All Around score of 89.100. He received a 15.1 on Floor (1st), 14.2 on Pommel (1st), 14.9 Rings (1st T), 14.8 on Vault (1st), 15.0 on P-Bars (1st), 15.1 on H-Bars (1st).

Level 4 (ages 8-9)

Jacob Perron placed second with an All Around score of 86.500. He received a 13.700 Floor (4th), 14.5 on Pommel (3rd), 14.4 on Rings (6th T), 14.6 on Vault (3rd T), 15.0 on P-Bars (1st), 14.3 on H-Bars (3rd).

Robert Cariello, Londonderry, placed 11th with an All Around score of 75.400. He received a 12.3 on Floor (11th), 9.8 on Pommel (11th), 13.8 on Rings (9th T), 14.3 on Vault (9th), 12.9 on P-Bars (12th), 12.3 on H-Bar (11th).

Level 4 (ages 10-11)

Christopher Piekarski, Goffstown, placed sixth with an All Around score of 82.900. He received a 13.7 on Floor (2nd T), 11.5 on Pommel (7th), 13.9 on Rings (8th), 15.2 on Vault (1st), 14.5 on P-Bars (6th),

14.1 on Floor (3rd).

Level 5 (ages 7-9)

JP Wallace, Windham, placed third with an All Around score of 89.300.

He received a 14.0 on Floor (5th), 15.2 on Pommel (3rd T), 14.7 on Rings (6th T), 14.8 on Vault (2nd T), 14.6 on P-Bars (12th), 15.0 on H-Bar (3rd).

Cameron Rogers, Windham, placed fifth with an All Around score of 89.000. He received a 14.1 on Floor (12th), 15.1 on Pommel (5th T),

15.1 on Rings (1st), 14.9 on Vault (1st), 15.1 on P-Bars (8th), 14.7 on H-Bars (7th).

Charlie Katin, Pelham, tied for 14th with an All Around score of 82.200. He received a 13.0 on Floor (13th), 14.8 on Pommel (9th), 13.3 on Rings (13th), 14.7 on Vault (4th T), 13.3 on P-Bars (15th), 13.1 on H-Bars (14th).

Jacob Dorman, Pelham, placed seventh with an All Around score of 79.500. He received a 10.9 on Floor (8th), 13.4 on Pommel (8th), 13.3 on Rings (4th T), 14.6 on Vault (7th T), 13.3 on P-Bars (5th), 14.0 on H-Bars (7th T).

Zachary Dancoes, Merrimack, placed eighth with an All Around score of 78.100. He received a 11.6 on Floor (7th), 14.0 on Pommel (4th T), 11.0 on Rings (8th), 14.2 on Vault (7th T), 13.2 on P-Bars (6th), 14.1 on H-Bars (6th).

Level 7 (ages 12 and older)

Andrew Sevigny, Nashua, placed second with an All Around score of 84.200. He received a 14.8 on Floor (2nd), 12.7 on Pommel (5th), 14.7 on Rings (2nd), 14.7 on Vault (2nd), 14.3 on P-Bars (2nd), 13.0 on H-Bars (5th).

Colby Routhier, Nashua, placed sixth with an All Around score of 76.800. He received a 10.7 on Floor (6th), 13.0 on Pommel (2nd), 13.7 on Rings (6th), 14.0 on Vault (5th), 12.6 on P-Bars (5th), 12.8 on H-Bars (6th).

Level 8 Polar Bear

Cody Rice, Hudson, placed third with an All Around score of 64.200. He received a 11.9 on Floor (1st), 9.0 Pommel (3rd), 11.5 on Rings (3rd),

11.9 on Vault (3rd), 10.2 on P-Bars (3rd), 9.7 on H-Bars (3rd).

NSG level nine state meet

On March 26, Nashua School of Gymnastics senior Taylor Boulia attended the state meet for Level 9 and 10, hosted by Gymnastics Village in Amherst. In the final meet of her USAG gymnastics career, she placed third in three events as a Level 9 in the Senior A division. She scored 30.50 in the all around, 8.50 (3rd) on vault, 7.40 (3rd) on bars, 6.10 on beam and 8.50 (3rd) on floor.

NSG competitors headed to states

Gymnasts from Nashua School of Gymnastics are going to states competition. Levels 4, 5 and 6 participated in the second sectional, held at Gymnastics Village in Amherst on Sunday, March 20. The gymnasts needed an All Around score of 33 to qualify for the upcoming USAG NH State Competition in April.

Level 4

Ages 6-8

Sarah St. Laurence qualified with an All Around score of 35.80 (3rd).

She earned 8.975 on vault, 8.75 on bars, 9.175 (2nd) on beam and 8.90 on floor.

Kaitlyn West qualified with an All Around score of 35.475. She earned

9.425 (2nd) on vault, 8.65 on bars, 8.675 on beam and 8.725 on floor.

Corey Foster qualified with an All Around score of 35.35. She earned

9.075 on vault, 8.00 on bars, 9.075 (3rd) on beam and 9.20 (2nd) on floor.

Samantha Gates qualified with an All Around score of 35.325. She earned 8.925 on vault, 9.025 (3rd) on bars, 8.35 on beam and 9.025

(3rd) on floor.

Lilly Brooks qualified with an All Around score of 35.125. She earned

9.275 on vault, 8.55 on bars, 8.625 on beam and 8.675 on floor.

Ages 9-10

Emily Colburn qualified with an All Around score of 37.45 (1st). She earned 9.125 on vault, 9.20 (2nd) on bars, 9.70 (1st) on beam and

9.425 (1st) on floor.

Breanna Vivier qualified with an All Around score of 36.925 (2nd). She earned 9.275 (3rd) on vault, 9.225 (1st) on bars, 9.40 (2nd) on beam and 9.025 (2nd) on floor.

Emma Lynch qualified with an All Around score of 36.00 (4th). She earned 9.375 (2nd) on vault, 8.775 (5th) on bars, 9.05 (4th) on beam and 8.80 (4th) on floor.

Hannah Speight qualified with an All Around score of 34.125. She earned 8.95 on vault, 8.40 on bars, 8.125 on beam and 8.65 on floor.

Sara Thomas qualified with an All Around score of 33.825. She earned

8.675 on vault, 8.65 on bars, 8.40 on beam and 8.10 on floor Level 5 Ages 9-10 Jenna Hantula qualified with an All Around score of 35.375 (4th). She earned 8.325 on vault, 8.80 on bars, 9.45 (tie 1st) on beam and 8.80

(4th) on floor.

Kyelin King-Elalaoui qualified with an All Around score of 34.125. She earned 8.60 on vault (3rd), 8.55 on bars, 8.45 on beam and 8.525 on floor.

Level 6

Ages 9-10

Devon Rosier qualified with an All Around score of 33.30. She earned

8.575 on vault, 7.10 on bars, 9.05 on beam and 8.575 on floor.

Ages 11-12

Kayla Townsend qualified with an All Around score of 34.355. She earned 8.525 on vault, 8.455 (4th) on bars, 8.625 on beam and 8.75 on floor.

Blake Boulia qualified with an All Around score of 33.70. She earned 8.850 (1st) on vault, 7.60 on bars, 8.65 on beam and 8.60 on floor.

SWIMMING

Manchester team wins Swim Association Championship

The Executive Health and Sports Club Swim Club won the New Hampshire Swim Association (NHSA) Championship title last weekend, March 18-20, at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter.

The team successfully defended its NHSA Championship title, defeating

14 other teams. The team, with its first championship a year ago, this time won by wide margin of more than 800 points over second-place Upper Valley Aquatic Club (2,527.50) and third-place Exeter Swim Team (2,467).

The team showed strength in all five age groups; both male and female swimmers scored in 88 of 90 events. Matthew Grauslys of Manchester set three individual records for the 13-14 Boys age group. The records came in the 200 and 500 Freestyles (1:49.53 and 4:55.63) that were both set in 2008. He also set the 100 Butterfly record with a time of

55.34 that was from 1989. Lindsey Wagner of Bedford broke the 50 Backstroke record from 1992 with a time of 32.62. The 15-19 Boys 200 Medley Relay team of Chris Giraldi, Dominic Ziolek (Londonderry), Ian Will (Mont Vernon) and Joe Moleksi (Litchfield) swam to a 1:41.12.

Natalie Giraldi, Bedford, also broke the record for the 15-16-year-old girls 100 Breaststroke in finishing second.

Chris Giraldi of Bedford was runner-up in the NHSA scholarship essay contest and will attend the Naval Academy this summer.

Other swimmers winning events for the Executive Health and Sports Center were Andrew Allen, 11, of Bedford (50 Free, 50 Breast), Colin Allen, 9 of Bedford (50 Breast), Alyssa Boccia, 16 of Londonderry (500 Free), Chris Giraldi, 17, (50 Free), Gavin Gregoire, 8, of Raymond (25 Breast), Grant Levasseur, 12, of Litchfield (50 Back, 50 Fly, 200 Free), Trent Levasseur, 10, of Litchfield (100 Free), Anthony Meyer, 8, of Nottingham (25 Free) and Ian Will, 18, (100 Fly). Relay winners were 11-12 boys Medley and Free (G. Levasseur, A. Allen, Maksim Shklyar, Michael Giraldi), 8 and Under Boys 100 Free Relay (Gregoire, Alex Luders, Meyer, Sean Safarz).
