Jr. MITES (3rd-4th grade)

St. Chris Gold battles St. Chris Green

St Christopher’s two Jr. Mite squads battled it out in a competitive contest last weekend at the St. Joseph church hall. Andre Laplante, James Bolton and Chase Nickerson fed the ball inside to Gold team inside players like John Puksta, Ian Connolly, Chris Inzerillo, Tucker MacLellan and Ben Pressly, while Green team play makers Alex Williams, Ameka Okorie, Manny Mendoza and Matt Thibualt kept things moving at both ends of the floor. Kristen Coumas scored for the Green team, while Kathleen Almeda, Joseph Kenosian, Alex Karski and Nasir Perry played tough defense. Nicole Yeaton and Meghan Eckmann were solid as usual.

St. Chris Green 21, PMA 5

The St. Christopher Jr. Mite Green team topped Presentation of Mary Academy last weekend. Leading all scorers was Matthew Thibault with 8 points, followed by Ameka Okorie with 7 points and Alex Williams with 6. Defensive pressure was the key to this win, however, with tremendous effort by Manny Mendoza and Nicole Yeaton. Kristen Coumas and Meghan Eckmann fought hard to control the boards, while Joseph Kenosian, Nasir Perry and Katie Almeda provided great hustle up and down the floor.

St. Chris Gold 30, St. Joseph’s 11

The St. Christopher’s Gold team topped the division-leading St. Joe’s team last weekend with a 30-11 win at the St. Joe’s church hall. Play makers Andre Laplante, James Bolton, Natalie Sheehy and Chase Nickerson fed the ball inside to Gold team inside players like John Puksta, Joseph Noon, Ian Connolly, Chris Inzerillo and Tucker MacLellan. Nearly all of the St. Chris players scored in the win.

MITES (5th-6th grade)

St. Chris 32, Infant Jesus 10

The St. Chris Mite Boys improved to a 5-2 record with a victory over Infant Jesus at the St. Joseph church hall. Patrick McCarthy and Tommy Ethier led a balanced offense. Mason Dane, Andre Laplante, CJ Barrett, Grant Coy and Joey Guidoboni also scored, with Sammy Martin adding his customary hustle on both offense and defense. Guidoboni had a strong rebounding performance that sparked the St. Chris fast break.

St. Chris 26, Immaculate Conception 25

The St. Christopher Girls Mites edged out Immaculate Conception in a close 26-25 game at the St. Joe’s church hall. Molly Dee exploded for

18 points, while Emily Moran with 5, Gavi Grossman with 2 and Isabelle Gosselin with 1 point, also chipped in the scoring effort. Samantha Sheehy and Peyton Ryan played hard and smart, while Erika Dahl and Janessa Palmieri were tough on defense and on the boards. Gosselin prevented a breakaway in the last minute to preserve the win for the

5-1 St. Chris squad.

Rivals top boys, girls teams

St. Chris Boys and Girls teams dropped contests to tough division rivals. Both the boys and girls Mites squads from St. Christopher’s parish and school were defeated last weekend. The boys lost to league-leading St. John Neumann, of Merrimack, while the girls were beaten by St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Manchester. Emily Moran put in a particularly solid and tough effort for the girls’

team, but it wasn’t enough to stop the St. George’s offensive attack.

CADETS (7th-8th grade)

St. Chris defeats St. Elizabeth Seton

St. Elizabeth Seton, of Bedford, jumped out to an early lead and led by as much as eight in the third period, but the St. Chris Girls Cadets eventually came on strong for a decisive win at Tyngsborough High School. Megan Kerutis and Taylor Choate were big scorers and tough defenders, while play makers Sarah Shields, Emma Williams and Marie Laplante distributed the ball both on the fast break and in the half-court offense. Meredith Hall showed her usual deft shooting touch, while Adeze Okorie, Victoria D’Anthony and Jackie O’Connell were solid in the paint.

St. John Neumann 45, St. Chris 39

Falling to a 5-3 record this season, St. Chris suffered its second straight loss in a tight decision to St. John Neumann, of Merrimack, at Tyngsborough High School. Myles Cassin-Reed led St Chris to an early lead, driving to the hoop or dishing to Brendan Barrett, who had a hot hand in the early going, but it wasn’t enough to stop the hard-nosed St. John Neumann squad.

St. Chris 36, Resurrection 25

The St. Chris Cadet girls battled their way to a 36-25 win over a speedy, hustling Parish of the Resurrection squad last weekend at Nashua Catholic Jr. High. Taylor Choate, Meghan Kerutis, Sarah Shields, Marie Laplante, Adeze Okorie and Victoria D’Anthony provided the scoring, with excellent play making and defense from Emma WIlliams. With Jessica Zalzal out with an injury, Meredith Hall and Jackie O’Connor had to step up to provide solid rebounding. For Resurrection, Lucia Lansing had an excellent outing at the offensive end of the floor, and Sydney Brackett played her usual tenacious defense. Sarah Cordova and Brynne Carroll were also key players for Resurrection.

NIGHTHAWKS

Nashua wins tournament

Nashua went 4-0 to win the 2011 MYA Merrimack Invitational Tournament.

The Nighthawks defeated Merrimack B, Londonderry B and Londonderry A to make the finals. In the championship, the Nighthawks played Jaffery and came out on top, 52-47. Cyrus Forcier, Kevin Genao and Joey Bernard played well in the open court. Rohan Patel, Stephen Signorello, Max Osgood and Alex Moody dominated the boards on both ends of the court. Nashua also received tremendous defense from Zach Boyer, Owen Amigo and DJ Frechette.

8th Grade

The 8th-grade Nashua Nighthawks picked up a win on the road in Tewksbury, 55-40. Demitri Jackson led the Nighthawks with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Dan McCoy provided strong minutes off the bench with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Chrisitan Sullivan was two for three in 3-pointers and finished with 9 points. The rest of the Nighthawks, Josh Goulet, Mike Osgood, Mike Habibi, Alex Boudreau and Jeremy Ouellette, all played well in the victory.

6th Grade

Nashua defeated Chelmsford 53-52. Nashua was down with 13 seconds left, and DJ Frechette hit a 3-pointer to take the lead. Chelmsford attempted a last-second shot but came up short. Stephen Signorello came up big in the comeback with 8 consecutive points. The game went back and forth the entire second half. Max Osgood, Rohan Patel and Alex Moody controlled the boards for Nashua.

NASHUA BIDDY LEAGUE

GIRLS JR. BIDDY

Astros 12, Panthers 12

After an intense overtime, the Astros and Panthers ended a long, hard-fought game tied 12-12. For the Astros, Keara Mahaney and Julia Sullivan each had 4 points, with Hayem Es-Sabir and Bridget Deck adding 2 points each. For the Panthers, Lauren Bezair led with 4 points, and Anelisa Auaman, Chloe Goforth and Abigail Sliwa chipped in 2 points each.

Astros 24, Warriors 5

The Astros broke out of an offensive slump, led by Ashley Murphy with

8 points and Taylor Ireland with 6 points. Dottie Charest played aggressive defense and hit a great outside shot at the buzzer.

Victoria Gates and Krysta Mack also scored for the Warriors.

Tigers 22, Braves 16

The Tigers put it all together recently with good defense from Caitlin Demmons, Catina Hicks and Mandi Monis. The offense was led by Katie “KC” Carr with 10, Caitlyn Olsen and Jasmine Sylvester had 4 each, and Olivia Baldassaro and Kayleigh Monis each scored 2.

Tigers 24, Knicks 16

The Tigers offense was led by Katie “KC” Carr with 10 points and Rachel Holden with 4 points. Caitlyn Olsen, Olivia Baldassaro, Kayleigh Monis, Morgan LaForge and Jasmine Sylvester each had a basket. Mandi Monis, Olivia Kingston, Catina Hicks, Kara Kelliher and Caitlin Demmers chipped in with great defense.

Lakers defeat Celtics

The Lakers played a great game against the Celtics. The Lakers had some great shots by Arianna Motivala, Hannah Casey, Amber Dube, Hannah Swain, Maya Rioux, Xitally Garcia, Ellie Kopicko and Brooke McCafferty. Lynsey Daley and Katelyn McCafferty played a solid game on defense. The Celtics also had a couple nice shots by Jordan Theriault.

Tigers 29, Astros 12

Tigers played a great all-around game, led by Katie “KC” Carr with 15 points. Jasmine Sylvester and Kayleigh Monis both had 4 points. Morgan Laforge, Caitlyn Olsen and Caitlin Demmers each scored 2. Olivia Baldassaro, Mandi Monis Rachel Holden, Kara Kelliher, Catina Hicks and Olivia Kingston all played great defense. For the Astros, Coryn Flavin, Julia Sullivan, Lydia Mathson and Taylor Ireland did the scoring.

GIRLS BIDDY

Knights 39, Spurs 24

The Knights were led in scoring by Danielle Upton with 13 points. They also got shots from Molly Dee with 8 points, Neysa Ouellette with 6, Megan Morelli with 4, and 2 points each from Erika Dahl, Jasmine Tyrance, Fiona Curran and Abbie King. Emma Williamson, Allycia Panos and Madeleine Paul played tough on both ends of the court, and Grace Tomasetti and Brenna Herbert made key plays to help move the Knights to 2-2. The Spurs received scoring contributions from Marie Laplante with 14 points, Nina Guidaboni with 6 and Kennedy Rebello with 4.

Rockets 34, Suns 20

Rockets came out strong and with 18 points in the first quarter, led by Alexis McNally with 8 points and Daija Gianitsis with 10 points.

The Rockets’ defense was led by Harsh Rathore and Brigitte Keavey.

Alexis McNally led all scorers with 14. Jamie Allerd, Liza Bull, Alyssa King, Courtney Olsen and Bianca Perez also scored for the Rockets.

Knights 36, Suns 17

Molly Dee, Megan Morelli and Neysa Ouellette led the Knights in scoring and defense as they beat the Suns. Jasmine Tyrance, Erika Dahl, Madeleine Paul and Danielle Upton also contributed points and plenty of steals. Brenna Herbert, Fiona Curran and Grace Tomasetti all played hard and were a constant source of grief to the other team. The Suns were led offensively by Kayla Bernier, Ryder Sullivan and Rebecca Murch played great games and were tough on both ends of the court

Bulls 42, Tigers 37

The Bulls came back after trailing 24-10 at halftime. The Tigers played a tough game with limited players and came up short in the end.

The Bulls were led by Arianna Dube with 16 points, Cassandra Putsch with 12 points and Daria Putsch with 8 points. The rest of team did a good job in helping out on defense. Rebounding was led by Abby Murray and Kelly Thornhill. The Tigers were led by Shardai with 15 points and Marissa with 7 points.

BOYS JR. BIDDY

Mustangs defeat Stars

The Mustangs defeated the Stars in a hard-fought game. The Mustangs were led offensively by Casey McNally with 13 points, Dallas Kastens with 9 points, Andrew Penkala with 5 points and Matt Thibault with 5 points. The Mustangs also received points from Rory Curran, Cody Gagnon and Suhass Katikanend. Defensively, the Mustangs received tremendous efforts from Joe Calomo, Tyler Brown, Penkala and Nick Brown. On the boards, the Mustangs were led by Logan Boucher, Jack Woermer, McNally, Kastens and Thibault.

Broncos 46, Knicks 25

After previously losing in overtime to the Knicks, the Broncos stormed back taking a 17-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Lukas Fong led the Broncos with 14 points, Adam Gosselin went four for four from the line and Colin Manning produced 8 points. Gabrial Souza had his best defesnive game of the season. The Knicks high scorer for the game was Assad Prasad with 8 points, while Eric Evans finished with 6 points

Hawks defeat Falcons

The Hawks got 12 points from Jake Smith, 8 from Murray Mahoney, 4 from Anubhav Darisi and 3 points and 3 assists from Calvin Levesque to lead the offense. Darisi had 6 rebounds and 3 blocks, anchoring a defense that got strong play from Rylan Brito, Fazil Soharwardi, David Koehler and Ryan Ahmed.

Broncos 39, Jazz 16

Jayden Jones was the leading scorer for the Broncos with 10 points.

The Broncos provided a well-balanced attack with Colin Manning scoring

9 points and Sam Charron scoring 8 points. Defensively, Anthony Rios played a great game while grabbing 6 rebounds as well. The Jazz top scorers were Gleb with 6 points, followed by John with 4 points.

Nuggets 33, Cougars 21

Nuggets won on great defense with key plays from Bryan Boyle and Ethan Leary. Scoring leaders were Brendon Auriana with 18 points and Gavin Forcier with 10.

Nuggets 29, Sonics 28

Great team effort by both Nuggets and Sonics players. Nuggets were led by Brendon Auriana and Gavin Forcier, who both scored 8 points. Also scoring were Manav Botadra with 4 points, Miles Rios, Dylan Sylva, Cesar Mendoza, Jack Ayer and Zack Berthiaume.

Mustangs beat Celtics

The Mustangs received a big offensive game from Matt Thibault, who led all scorers with 22 points. Also contributing to the offense were Andrew Penkala with 8 points, Casey McNally with 4 points, Dallas Kastens with 4, Rory Curran with 3, Nick Brown and Tyler Brown.

Defensively, Joe Calomo, Cody Gagnon and Suhass Katikanend played well.

Hawks 48, Cougars 13

Paced by Anubhav Darisi’s 4 points, 6 rebounds and 9 blocks, the Hawks cruised to a 48-13 win over the Cougars. Jake Smith led all scorers with 15, Murray Mahoney had 9, Ryan Ahmed had 6, and Aidan Gillis, Calvin Levesque and Rylan Brito had 4. For the Cougars, Matt Rittenburg had 5, and Manny Mendoza had 4.

Broncos 31, Saints 19

Colin Manning had a career night with 15 points, followed by his teamate Lukas Fong, who had 8 points. Drew Dunhom not only played great defesne on a taller opponent but also chipped in with 6 points of his own. The Saints battled throughout the game, Ben leading the charge with 7 points, followed by Marcus with 5 points.

BOYS BIDDY

Knicks 33, Pistons 30

The Knicks raised their record to 7-2 with a close 33-30 win over the Pistons. In a back-and-forth game featuring several lead changes, every possession was contested by two determine teams. Defense and rebounding were the keys that allowed the Knicks to pull out the win.

Joe Bernard, Isaiah Bugg, Jake Derusha and C.J. Mellen were defensive standouts for the Knicks, while Pat Soucy with 11 points and Pat Carr with 5 points led the offense. The Pistons were led by Shane Legraw with 14 points and Brinton MacDonald with 6 points

Bullets 32, Bucks 24

Bullets were led by Ethan Carta-Ducharme with 12 points and 6 each by Ashunti Brodie, Noah Cardin and Mitch Coy. Nick Puleo led the Bucks with 10 points.

Nationals 25, Sharks 31

The Sharks continued to play fierce defense to defeat their division rival in a game that was close throughout. Tyler O’Brien, Owen Shea and Larry Lassiter fought hard and helped control the defensive rebounds. The offense was balanced, led by Cameron Novotny with 9 points, Justin Howard with 7 and Ryan Lawes with 4 points. Andrew Morin, David Erickson and Devin Lambert also made key hoops to propel the team to the win. The Nationals played hard and were led by Nick Miles 8 points and 6 points from Max Fay.

Sonics 40, Jazz 22

The Sonics built an early lead and held off a feisty Jazz team for the win. Jordan Buckmire led all players with 11 points, while Patrick Sullivan and Brian Inzerillo added 6 each, and Ben Pelletier came off the bench to add 5 points. The Jazz received strong games from Cristian Lowell and Anthony Martucci, who each scored 4 points.

Stars 53, Eagles 38

The Stars went out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, but Ben Shea had 6 big points in the second to give the Eagles a 19-18 lead at the half. Chad Olivieri had a huge third quarter with 23 points, 37 overall in two quartets of play, and gave the Stars a 50-31 lead that they would not relinquish. Jake Fong and Nnaji Obinelo played a great final quarter for the Stars to get a 53-38 victory

Lancers, 27, Hawks 22

The Lancers beat the Hawks 27-22 in a game that was close all the way.

Tough, aggressive defense was played by both teams the entire game.

The Lancers were led by John Champa with 10 points, Chaz Magras with 5 and Rob McLaughlin with 4. Great rebounding and defense by Harper Niven, Mitch Mahoney and Collin Leary. The Bucks were led by Tyler Arnesen with 6 points and Evan Branquinho, Jared Levesque and Peter Bowe, all with 4 points each.

Knicks 43, Bullets 25

The Knicks jumped out to a big first-half lead and held off a rally by the Bullets on the way to a 43-25 win. Leading the offensive charge for the Knicks were Richie Mercardo with 10 points and Isiah Bugg, Pat Carr and Tyler McCallum each with 8 points. CJ Mellen, Siddarth Ganguri and Cody Butler had solid defensive efforts. Leading the Bullets were Noah Cardin with 8 points and Connor Coy with 4 points.

Knicks 36, Satellites 27

The Knicks raised their record to 9-2 behind a fourth-quarter rally that led them to a tough 36-27 win over the Satellites. Ty Retkevicz, Roman Johnson and Sinjin Doeurk played well on defense, while Pay Soucy’s 15 points led the offensive attack with Isiah Bugg and Richie Mercardo each adding 7 points. The Satellites offense was led by Thibaut’s 9 points and Lambert’s 8 tallies.

Pistons 33, Bucks 23

The Pistons defeated a determined Bucks team by a score of 33-23.

Shane Legraw scored 12, Jack Dinsmore 10 and Connor Robbins 5 to lead the Pistons. Akiro Swain, Tyler Arnesen and Jake Fitzpatrick paced the Bucks.

Pistons 40, Bullets 35

In a hard-fought game, the Pistons beat the Bullets by a score of 40-35. Shane Legraw led the Pistons with 19 points, while Brinton MacDonald added 6. Kyle Reeder played well for the second unit. The Bullets were paced by Noah Cardin with 11 points and Ashanti Brodie with 8

Cougars 31, Sonics 25

Jeremiah Pena led the Cougars to victory with excellent defense in a tightly played contest throughout. Pena scored 8 points, while Sean Murphy and Noah Ouellette added 6 points each. Matt Franco pitched in with 5 points, and Rayquan Alleyne added 4 points and many assists.

The Sonics had the game-high scorers led by Brian Inzerillo’s 11 points and 10 points from Jordan Buckmire

Sonics 46, Jazz 38

The Sonics had to fend off several rallies from a resilient Jazz team to earn the win. Jordan Buckmire paced the Sonics with 16 points, while Matt Savoia had a hot hand and scored 10 points. Tony Agor and Ben Pelletier played well on defense. The Jazz received strong efforts from Anthony Martucci and Tyler Bando, who each scored 7 points while RJ Jenkins added 6.

Jets 39, Cavaliers 38

The Jets and Cavaliers squared off in an exciting game played hard by both teams. Dennis Martinez dropped in 10 points for the Jets. Tyler Bernard chipped in with 9 points, as Ricky Constant had a game-high 14 points of which he scored the winning basket with a second left in regulation. The Cavs were led by Jon Ducharme, who scored 8 markers and Mike Lentz had a team-high 12 points.

Eagles 45, Lancers 19

Coming up big for the Eagles were Cal O’Rourke with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists; Matt Lawyer with 8 points and 10 rebounds; Jarret Bieren with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Noah Morse with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Mitch Mohoney, John Champa, Samuel Mena and Robert McLaughlin scored 4 points each and Chaz Magras got 2 points for the Lancers.

Eagles 56, Jets 35

Matt Lawyer played big for the Eagles and had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Cal O’Rourke had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Fox scored 8 points and 8 rebounds, Nick Koch 10 points and 8 rebounds, Brandon Stempler, Sarveen Shaiyan-Rad and Big Timmy Daigneault each had 2 points and 6 rebounds. Tyler Bernard scored 17 Points, Ricky Constant 8 points, Dennis Martinez and Mike Pelleteir 4 points each, and Braedon Smith scored 2 points for the Jets.

Sharks 34, Thunder 16

Andrew Morin, David Erickson and Devin Linscott led an inspired defensive effort to lead the Sharks to victory. Cam Novotny and Justin Howard each scored 7 points, while Hunter Clemons scored 4 points to lead a balanced offense.

Cougars 30, Sharks 31

In an exciting and hard-fought game, the Sharks scored with 11 seconds left to defeat a talented Cougars team. Tyler O’Brien led the charge with a tremendous performance both rebounding and on the defensive end. On the offensive side, Larry Lassiter came through with 10 points, Cam Novotny 8 points and Ryan Lawes’ 5 points and tough defense in the second half helped preserve the victory. Two Camerons, Cam Klein and Cam Paquette each provided key hoops in a great game.

Warriors 43, Hawks 14

The Warriors starters played well together in the win over the Hawks, but the second unit, with contributions from Gediyon Prince, Adam Kelliher, Tyler Bellemore and Dominick Paladino, displayed good teamwork. Adam Fenlason led the Hawks in points, while Nathan, Josh, Devin, Erin and Paul played very tough for the team.

Stars 47, Satellites 27

Tommy Doucette had 7 points and many rebounds, while Chad Olivieri scored 28 points for the Stars. Nnaji Obinelo was a force on the boards, and Hunter Law had a few nice baskets and some key steals. For the Satellites, Lambert had 16 points and Bookhara had 9.

BOYS BANTAM

Knicks 59, Colts 47

Knicks were led by Evan Richardson with 10 points, Dan McCoy with 9 and Mike McCarthy with 11. Harsh Patel led the Colts with 7 points with balanced scoring from 12 of his teammates.

Knicks 69, Suns 48

Mike McCarthy led the Knicks with 18 points and 12 assists. Matt Lavallee added 13 and Caine Rivera chipped in with 8. The Suns were led by Richard Callahan with 19 points and Kyle Bourbeau with 8.

Pacers 85, Jets 52

Pacers were led by Kyle Palevicious with 14 points and Christian Sullivan with 13. The Jets were led by Brian Wells with 13 points and Nick L’heureux with 10.

Stars 58, Blazers 55

The Stars defeated the Blazers in a close game, 58-55, to win their second straight game. The game was a back-and-forth contest with Scotty Costa icing the game by making two free throws with 3 seconds left to seal the win. A great game was played by both the Blazers and the Stars. Brendan Barrett started the game off with a 3-pointer. He contributed both running the offense and some great defense. Others contributing to the Stars on both sides of the ball were Devan Dowling, Mayur Patel and Brian McAfee.

Suns 50, Flyers 48

Richard Callahan sealed a Suns win by sinking two free throws with four seconds left in the game. Down most of the game, the Suns rallied in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Flyers 15-10. Nick Stergio led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Shannon Martin of the Flyers, who had 11. Outstanding defensive efforts were given by Eric Sliz and Jake Shah of the Suns and Robert Davis of the Flyers.

Pacers 57, Colts 55

The Pacers were led by Cory Fontaine with 12 points and Darrien Jackson with 10. The Colts were paced by Brian Colby with 21 points and Harsh Patel and Chas Dewitt with 8 points each in this overtime thriller.

Jets defeat Stars

Nick L’Heureux of the Jets led all scorers with 19 points, and Brian Wells scored 11. Nathan Page scored 9. The Stars played hard the entire game. The Stars did out-score the Jets in fourth quarter, 14-6.

The Jets had a 46-11 lead after three periods.

Suns 65, Blazers 39

A total team effort was given as the Suns outscored the Blazers on Thursday night. The Suns were led by Kyle Murray and Richard Callahan with 14, while Jake Shah pitched in 8. The Blazers were led by Lucas Briand with 15 and Derek Lansil with 10.

GYMNASTICS

NSG’s Boulia qualifies for states

Nashua School of Gymnastics level 9 gymnast Taylor Boulia attended a local qualifying meet on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Wilkey’s Gymnastics in Tewksbury, Mass. She was looking for a score of 32.00 or higher in order to qualify for NH Spring States in March. She qualified with an all-around score of 33.025 and placed third. She scored 8.70 on vault, 8.40 on bars, 7.50 on beam and 8.425 on floor.

WRESTLING

BGCGN going strong on the mats

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua Youth Wrestling sent its Elite Traveling Team to Rochester this weekend for a quad meet and came home victorious. The Nashua team outwrestled Londonderry 48-26, Rochester 76-10 and Timberlane by forfeit. Gaining multiple victories were Taylor Thyne, Kirsten Hammond, Cole Nickerson and Cole Humber. Earning single wins were Ryan Jigarjian, Ryan Rice, Brian Toupin, Brandon Levesque, John Sweeney, Brendon Kendall, Duncan Holland and DJ McCord.

Ryan Szczgeilski, Evan Manning, Anthony Fiorentino also represented the team.

Other members of the Boys & Girls Club Nashua Youth Wrestling Team traveled to Manchester to take part in the Crusader Open Wrestling Tournament. Nashua had nearly 30 wrestlers participate, and 18 team members finished in the top four. Capturing the titles were Colby Vancelette, Garrett Hillard, Ryan Jigarjian. Jahnious Jones, Kaiden Gianitsis, Thomas Christian, Colin O’Connor, Ryan Rice and Tyler Linscott achieved second-place finishes. Placing third were Teddy Janczak, Anthony Fernandez, Brody Burke, Owen Duda and Zhidderious Jones. Andrew Lovell, Noah Sullivan, Kayla Armstrong were recognized with fourth-place honors.

The weekend of Jan. 22-23, was extremely exciting in Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua youth wrestling. On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Boys & Girls Club Nashua MVC Wrestling Team traveled to North Andover for the end-of-the-season championship tournament. Throughout the past two years, the Nashua squad captured the regular season and championship tournament honors. This season was a challenge as they finished in fifth place for the regular season; however, wrestlers came back strong on Saturday and achieved the third-place trophy while avenging two earlier regular season losses. The Elite Team consists of wrestlers from all of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua middle school programs and Nashua Catholic students. Wrestling in the tournament were Ryan Jigarjian, Colin O’Connor, Isaiah Johnson, Taylor Thyne, Cole Nickerson, Kevin Melanson, Cameron Bennett, Ryan Rice, David Muite, Cole Humber, Brian Toupin, Bandon Levesque, John Sweeney, Brendon Kendall, Evan Manning, Anthony Fiorentino. All of these wrestlers earned a well-deserved thank you from the coaches.

On Sunday, Jan. 23, the Boys & Girls Club Nashua Youth Club Team went to Peterborough to compete in the Con-Val Cougar Classic. Twenty-two young grapplers represented Nashua in the tournament and came home with 19 medals. Earning championships in their weight classes were Andrew Lovell, Anthony Fernandez, Liam Finn, Zachary Rioux, Craig Freni, Owen Duda and Kalique Jones. Silver finishes went to Teddy Janczak, Brody Burke, Thomas Christian, Tyler Linscott, Ben Lugo and Nadia Fernandez. Bringing home the third-place medals were Matthew Kelley, Kaci Janczak, Owen Finn, Kaiden Gianitsis, Tim Roscoe and Brian Toupin. Devin Alexander, Noah Sullivan, Ryan Kielma also represented well for the Nashua team.

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua annually serves thousands of boys and girls ages 5-18 in the community with a variety of programs and activities to build attitudes, skills, values and behaviors that enable youth to succeed in adulthood. Hollis Cavaliers get big win

In Valley League Youth Hockey action, the Hollis Cavaliers Squirt I team dominated the Woburn Tanners Squirt team, defeating them by the score of 11-2. The Cavs scoring efforts were led by Trent Costa and Isaac Rogers netting 4 goals each. Sean Kelly netted his first goal of the year on a pass from TJ Vitullo. The Cavs defensemen Alec MacEachen, Max Porter and Dean Poulin played exceptionally well, moving the puck up ice and helping Cavs goalie Ben Goolsby shut down the opposing team.

In Granite State Hockey action, the Hollis Cavaliers Squirt I team displayed its own ‘Miracle on Ice,’ handing the first-place Rochester Blackhawks their second loss of the season, 7-5. Heading into the third period, the Cavs trailed by the score of 4-1 but refused to quit. The Cavs front lines of Trent Costa with 2 goals, Max Sears and Jonathan Young with 1 goal and 1 assist and Isaac Rogers with 2 goals, Sean Kelly and TJ Vitullo exploded with six goals. The Cavs defensive pairs of Max Porter and Dean Poulin and Alec MacEachen and Maddy Pitre shut down the Blackhawk’s ability to move the puck, while Ben Goolsby remained strong between the pipes.

SKATING

Synchro Stars teams share success

A season of success continues for the Synchro Stars synchronized skating teams. At the Colonial Classic held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, the Beginner 1 team placed second in its division, while the Beginner 3 team placed third. On Jan. 22, at the Boston Synchronized Classic held at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass., the Beginner 3 team took first place winning its division, while the Beginner 2 team placed second. Both teams are participants in the Eastern Synchronized Challenge Cup Series for the 2010-2011 skating season. As of January both teams are in the top three for their divisions among the East Coast teams.

SWIMMING

Greater Nashua YMCA faces Exeter

Recently the Greater Nashua YMCA swim team swam in a dual meet with the Exeter Swim Team at the Philips Academy George Love Pool in Exeter. Seventy-nine Storm swimmers achieved personal-best times during the meet. Two swimmers broke Storm club records: Catherine Green (Girls 13-14 100 Butterfly) and Aron Laborera (Boys 9-10 50 Butterfly).

In this dual meet, swimmers were limited to enter only three events.

Three swimmers swept the three events in which they entered; they were Rebecca Jolly (Girls 15-18 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke), Bryan Laborera (Boys 11-12 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley) and Matthew Puksta (Boys 15-18 50 and 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke). Four more swimmers scored two wins and a second-place finish. They were Lauren Brennan, Andrew Chaviano, Julia Krawiec and Alice Loucraft.

Ten relay teams won their events, including Girls 8 and under 100 Freestyle Relay (Katerina Juris, Adriana Milton, Evelyn Duffy and Alice Loucraft), Girls 8 and under 100 Medley Relay (Abigail Little, Alice Loucraft, Evelyne Duffy and Katerina Juris), Girls 11-12 200 Freestyle Relay (Elise Jolly, Anastasiya Ausiannikaya, Margaret Loucraft and Julia Krawiec), Girls 15-18 Freestyle Relay (Taylor Studley, Jordan Tierney, Jacquueline McLavey and Rebecca Jolly), Girls

NH Black Flies offers free clinic

NH Sportsplex and NH Black Flies AAU Baseball will offer a free Baseball Clinic Feb. 21 and 22. Steve LaRose of the NH Black Flies AAU Baseball will be holding a free baseball clinic for ages 6-13 at NH Sportsplex indoor facility in Bedford on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m.-noon. Coach LaRose played six years professionally for the NY Mets and Houston Astros. The clinic will cover hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing, catching and base running. Players are responsible for bringing their own equipment, including glove, bat, protective cup and helmet. No metal spikes allowed. There is no charge, but space is limited. The Hudson Girls Softball League will have registration sessions at the following dates and times at the Hudson Recreation Center, near H.O.
