BASKETBALL

NASHUA PARKS & REC.

BOYS JR. BIDDY: Broncos 34, Wildcats 17

Broncos top scorers were Lukas Fong, 10 points and Jayden Jones, 10 points, defensive play Anthony Rios.

Wildcats were paced by Nick with 8 points.

Good team defense and a balanced scoring attack helped the Jazz defeat a determined Pistons team by a score of 35 to 12. They were led in scoring by Gabe Buxton with 9 points, Gleb Zhurauliou and John Sullvan had 6 points each and John Puksta and Xavier Provost both contributed 4 points. The Pistons were led in scoring by Geoffrey Lynch with 5 points.

Saints defeat Clippers

The Saints jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Clippers showed great teamwork and hit some timely shots. Scoring for the Saints were Chris Inzerillo, JJ Kammann, PJ Costa, Joey Buturla, Ben Star, Andrew Schott and Ethan Sullivan. Also playing defense for the Saints was Jack Cirrone, who kept the fast-paced Clippers at bay. The Watts brothers, Marcus and Dillon, played great defense, with Dillon draining an important free throw to seal the deal for the Saints.

The Hawks got 10 points each from Murray Mahoney and Jake Smith, 7 from Calvin Levesque and 4 each from Jamie Maddock and Aidan Gillis. Yassine Jakib played his best game so far with 6 points and 12 rebounds. The Lakers were led by Peyton Adams with 4 points and Andre Ducharme with 3.

Mustangs 35, Celtics 14

The Mustangs defeated the Celtics to improve to 6-1. Leading the Mustangs on offense was Andrew Penkala with 12 points. Also scoring for the Mustangs were B with 8 points, Casey McNally with 7 points, Dallas Kastens with 4 points, Rory Curran with 2 points and Cody Gagnon with 2 points. Defensively, Nick Brown, Logan Boucher, Suhass Katikanend, Joe Calomo and Tyler Brown played tough throughout the game. 

The Celtics received solid games from Charlie Collins with 4 points, Alex Koutsos with 4 points, Glen Preston with 4 points and Luc Blondeau with 2 points.

BANTAM:

Suns 63, Colts 44

Suns were led by Matt Fox with 12 points, Eric Sliz with 10 points, Ben Walker with 9 points. Defensive effort was made by Richard Callahan. Colts were led by Mike Root with 8 points, Brian Colby with 8 points. Defensive effort: Kristian Veras.

Pacers 66, Kings 32

High scorers for the Pacers were Stephen Choate with 15 points, Cory LaFontaine with 10 points and Demitri Jackson with 10 points. High scorers for the Kings were Justin Carter with 13 points and Kyle Reardon with 6 points.

Kings 71, Knicks 52

The Kings evened their season record at 1-1 behind a game-high 24 points by Deni Dzebic. The Knicks jumped out to a quick lead and led through the fourth quarter behind the great outside shooting of Ethan Richardson, who had 3 threes and a total of 14 points for the game. Brendan Belzil and Matt Lavalee both added 9 to help build the lead for the Knicks. Jeff Lunn sparked the fourth-quarter comeback for the Kings by dropping in 17 points of his own with Mike Berube also contributing with his 6 fourth-quarter points.

GIRLS BIDDY:

Tigers defeat Knights    

Tigers prevail in a well-played competitive game by both teams. Shardai Spearman, Marisa Gaudette both with 10 points and Lexi Correa with 4 points made some tough baskets at the end to pull out the victory after numerous lead changes throughout the game.

Molly Dee with 14 points led all scorers. Danielle Upton and Megan M. played well for the Knights.

Lakers 23, Suns 17

The Lakers defeated the Suns 23-17 in a well-played game by both teams. The Lakers scoring was led by Heather Roscoe with 6 points and Chelsea Ulery with 5 points. Krithika Suresh and Sam Willard with 4 points each also contributed in the scoring for the Lakers. 

The Suns were led by Liz with 8 points and Kayla with 6 points. Annanya with 2 points and Alex with 1 point also scored for the Suns.

CYO

JR. MITES (3rd-4th grade):St. Chris ‘Gold’ defeats Resurrection ‘White’

Coming off their trip to the finals of the St. Joe’s “Tip-off” Classic, the St. Christopher’s boys “Gold” Jr. Mite team returned to regular season action with a win over the Resurrection “White” team at Resurrection Center. The St. Chris balanced scoring attack included 8 points from James Bolton, 4 points each from Cole Nickerson, John Puksta and Chris Inzerillo, and baskets from Andre Laplante, Ben Pressly and Natalie Sheehy. Starters Sydney Bissonette and Grace Lambert were key contributors to the winning effort.

Resurrection ‘Orange’ 34, St. Chris ‘Green’ 20

The St. Christopher’s Jr. Mite “Green” squad played hard, but couldn’t beat the Resurrection “Orange” team last weekend. Ameka Okorie poured in 10 points, and Alex Williams added 6. Matt Thibault scored 4 and played his usual tough defense.

MITES (5th-6th grade):St. Chris boys 33, Resurrection ‘Black’ 24

The St. Christopher’s boys mites jumped out to a big lead, but the Resurrection “Black” squad narrowed the lead to 5 in the fourth quarter before St. Chris sealed the 33-24 win. Finn Littlefield and Andre Laplante put in key defensive performances with blocked shots and steals, while Pat McCarthy with 12 points, Tommy Ethier with 8 points, Mason Dame with 4 points and Mike Meads, Joe Guidoboni, Sam Martin and Grant Coy handled the scoring.

St. Chris girls 30, Resurrection 20

The St. Christopher’s girls mites improved to 4-1 with a 30-20 win over Parish of the Resurrection at Resurrection Center. Molly Dee led all scorers with 12 points, while Charlotte Labonte and Isabelle Gosselin added 6 and 4, respectively. Peyton Ryan, Gavi Grossman, Erika Dahl and Emily Moran also scored, while Samantha Crotty had two steals. Samantha Sheehy was tough at both ends of the floor.

HOCKEY

Hollis Cavs start year with big win

In Valley Youth Hockey League action the Hollis Cavaliers Squirt 1 team started the New Year off with a big win over the Melrose Squirt 2 Team by the score of 4-1. The Cavs scoring was led by TJ Vitullo, who had 2 goals, Trent Costa had a goal and 2 assists and Isaac Rogers had the other tally for the Cavs. Forwards Maddy Pitre and Alec MacEachen each had an assist. The Cavs defensemen Max Porter, Dean Poulin and Sean Kelly kept the Melrose team from generating any real offense, and goalie Ben Goolsby was very strong between the pipes.

WRESTLING

Boys & Girls Club hosts tri-meet

This past weekend, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua hosted a tri-meet for the Salem, Billerica and Nashua MVC wrestling teams. Wrestling for the Nashua squad were members of the Boys & Girls Club teams from the Elm Street, Pennichuck, Fairgrounds, and Hudson Memorial Middle School wrestling teams, as well as wrestlers from Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School. The Boys & Girls Club’s Nashua MVC team is an elite team that travels through out the Merrimack Valley facing top opponents each week. Nashua faced off against Salem and came up short in a 49-30 defeat. This is only the second loss this year. They are previously undefeated in their first two seasons in the league and are the reigning MVC League Champions for the past two seasons. Wrestling with victories were Ryan Jigarjian, Taylor Thyne, Cam Bennett, Kevin Melanson, Brandon Levesque and Evan Manning. Also wrestling well were Colin O’Connor, Jaiden Dupont, Cole Nickerson, Ryan Rice, David Muite, Brian Toupin, Morley Kert, Brendan Kendall and Hunter Russell. Their next battle will be in Tyngsboro, where they meet Tewksbury and Tyngsboro on Jan. 8.

BASEBALL

GID still looking for players

Nashua Youth Lacrosse

The Nashua Blast Youth Lacrosse League is now taking girls and boys registration for the upcoming 2011 spring season. The divisions are U9, U11, U13 and U15.
