BASKETBALL

CYO

Jr. Mites (3rd-4th grade)

St. Joe’s 21, St. Chris Gold 20

The St. Chris Gold squad dropped to 1-1 on the season with a tough 21-20 loss to St. Joe’s at the St. Joe’s church hall. John Noon and Chase Nickerson scored six apiece, while Andre Laplante and John Puksta each scored four. Puksta put in his usual tough defensive and rebounding effort, and got help from Chris Inzerillo, Ben Pressly, Sydney Bissonette, Grace Lambert and Tucker MacLellan.

PMA White 14, St. Chris Green 12

Alex Williams scored eight points in the St. Chris Green team’s 14-12 loss to the Presentation of Mary Academy’s white squad at the Parish of the Resurrection Hall. Ameka Okorie and Matt Thibault each scored a basket as well.

Mites (5th-6th grade)

St. Chris girls 52,

St. Mark’s (Londonderry) 8

The St. Christopher’s girls mites improved to 2-0 with a 52-8 win over St. Mark’s at the St.

Joseph’s church hall. Gavi Grossman poured in eight points in the paint. Michelle Curran was tough on the boards, while Emily Moran, Peyton Ryan and Molly Dee scored six points apiece. Erika Dahl and Isabelle Gosselin were good for four points and two points, respectively.

Cadets (7th-8th grade)

St. Chris 39, St. John Neumann 37

The St. Chris boys improved to 2-1 with a 39-37 victory over St. John Neumann at Tyngsborough (Mass.) High School. Myles Cassin-Reed led the St. Chris squad with a double-double in steals and points, while Will Barry cleaned up on the offensive boards and did an outstanding job defending. Sam McCarthy sealed the victory with a 3-pointer in the final minute.

TRAVEL

8th Grade

Nighthawks drop three straight

The Nighthawks opened the regular season with three losses.

Friday the ’Hawks lost to Billerica 46-42 Demitiri Jackson led the ’Hawks with 16 points, while Mike Habibi scored nine and Christian Sullivan finished with eight. Also playing well for Nashua was Dan McCoy, who finished with six points and eight rebounds. Saturday, Nashua lost another close one to Westford 51-48.

Sullivan led the scoring with 14 points, followed by Habibi and McCoy with 11 and 10 points, respectively. On Sunday, the Hawks fell to Dracut (Mass.) 61-42. Habibi led the way with 13 points followed by Mike Osgood and Josh Goulet with 11 points each. Alex Boudreau and Jeremy Ouellette provided strong minutes despite the loss.

7th Grade

Nighthawks 70, Salem 57

Nashua never trailed in a 70-57 win over Salem 70-57 on Sunday and never trailed during the game. Shane LeGraw had a great day on the boards and from the foul line, going 8 for 11 from the charity stripe and adding a put-back to finish with 10 points. Dylan Gamache,

Patrick Sullivan, Collin Morrow and Casey Fisher (two points) supplied tremendous defensive pressure throughout the game that caused several Salem turnovers.

Ryan Penkala added seven points and Jarrett Wilson (five points) hit a basket at the buzzer to give Nashua a 39-28 halftime lead. In the second half, Salem mounted a comeback and got within seven points with about seven minutes remaining in the game; however, Brint MacDonald, Garret Bozek (two points) and Ben Segal (14 points) got Nashua back over 10 by controlling the Salem press and setting their teammates up for easy buckets. Nashua’s Chad Olivieri led all scorers with 24 points.

6th Grade

Andover Blue 48, Nighthawks 26

Nashua held a 17-13 lead at halftime, but could not hold the lead as Andover charged back in the second half. Rohan Patel had 10 points and Kevin Genao had seven points. Stephen Signorello played great on the defensive end.

5th Grade

Nighthawks top Tyngsborough

The Nighthawks started their regular season with a big win over Tyngsborough, Mass. Tyngsborough scored first, but Nashua took control from that point forward. All 10 Nashua players contributed points. Xahn Frater led the ’Hawks with 16 points, followed by Alonzo Linton with 10 points. Both John Champa and Tilak Patel hit 3-pointers. Ryan Lynn and Razz Alkalay rebounded extremely well all game. Sclyler Boykin and Alex Amigo played relentless defense, while Clayton Medling and Joshua Reeder also contributed offensively and rebounded on both ends of the court.

GYMNASTICS

NSG strong at Winter State Meet

The Nashua School of Gymnastics Levels 4, 5 and 6 had strong showings at the Winter State Meet held at Phantom Gymnastics in Pelham. The gymnasts competed with girls from around the state.

LEVEL 4

Age 6-7

Corey Foster finished with an All Around of 33.375. She earned 9.00 on vault, 8.05 on bars, 7.55 on beam, and 8.775 on floor.

Age 8

Emily Colburn finished with an All Around of 35.575 (11th). She earned 9.00 (10th) on vault, 9.225 (5th) on bars, 8.75 (10th) on beam, and 8.60 on floor.

Breanna Vivier finished with an All Around of 33.65. She earned 8.825 on vault (14th), 8.15 on bars, 7.95 on beam, and 8.725 on floor.

Age 9

Emma Lynch finished with an All Around of 34.625 (11th). She earned 9.10 (7th) on vault, 8.725 on bars, 8.15 (10th) on beam, and 8.65 (11th) on floor.

Kyelin King-Elalaoui finished with an All Around of 34.00. She earned 9.05 (9th) on vault, 8.35 on bars, 7.80 on beam, and 8.80 (7th) on floor.

LEVEL 5

Age 9

Devon Rosier had an All Around score of 35.525 (6th). She scored 8.45 on vault, 8.80 (5th) on bars, 9.275 (6th) on beam and 9.00 (4th) on floor.

Jenna Hantula had an All Around score of 26.70. She scratched vault, scored 8.425 on bars, 9.55 (4th) on beam and 8.725 on floor.

LEVEL 6

Age 11

Kayla Townsend earned an All Around score of 35.025. She scored 8.70 on vault, 8.725 on bars, 9.05 (2nd) on beam and 8.55 on floor.

Blake Boulia earned an All Around score of 33.50. She scored 8.85 (4th) on vault, 7.30 on bars, 8.70 on beam and 8.65 (4th) on floor.

FIGURE SKATING

Synchro Stars holding open skate

The Synchro Stars Synchronized Skating Team will be having a free open skate on Dec. 19. All skaters interested can come to this open house to try synchronized skating. Skaters age 7 and up working on Basic 4 or above take the ice from 5:40-6:30 p.m., while skaters ages 10 and older working on a free skate level and/or Moves in the Field will take the ice from 6:30-7:20 p.m. For more information contact the coaching staff at 883-1460 or visit our website at www.synchrostars.net.

CHEERLEADING

Nashua PAL forming winter squad

The Nashua Police Athletic League is forming cheerleading teams to compete in winter cheer competitions offered to school, CYO, and recreation teams. Registration for the squads (girls eighth grade and under) will be held at the Nashua PAL Youth Safe Haven located at 52 Ash St. in Nashua on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

A $150 registration fee will cover uniforms, shoes and competition, and like all PAL programs, registration fee waivers and other registration fee relief is available to participants with financial challenges.

This program is not part of the Nashua PAL Force NHYFSC cheer organization, and is open to girls living anywhere in Nashua or surrounding communities. Contact Katie Geraghty at kbgeraghty@yahoo.com with questions.

Mites

Nashua II wins a pair

Nashua II beat Salem/Swampscott (Mass.) 8-5, and then topped Waltham (Mass.) 8-4 last weekend.

In the first game versus S and S it was a back-and-forth battle into the third period.

Andrew Frothingham and Clare Woodford scored a minute apart to put the game out of reach with the Panthers winning 8-5. Tim Guman led the attack with four goals, Brooke Yabroudy had one goal and two assists and Derek Amaral had a goal and an assist.

The Panthers (13-4-1 overall) followed that up with an 8-4 win over the Waltham Hawks. Amaral led the attack with three goals and Frothingham had two goals and an assist. Joshua Parent had a key goal, which put the Panthers in the lead for the remainder of the game and it was his first goal of the year. Guman and Daniel Woodford rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.

Gr. Boston Jr. Bruins 3,

Sports Arena AAA Flames 2

The Sports Arena Mite AAA Flames suffered a 3-2 loss to the Greater Boston Jr. Bruins in Brighton, Mass.

In the first period, the Flames would go up on top 1-0 on a goal by Alex Douidi at the 5:56 mark. The lone assist would go to Alex Lobdell.

In the second period, the Jr. Bruins would score three unanswered goals to go up 3-1. In the third period, Douidi would score his second of the game at the 7:35 mark on a nice individual play to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Flames continued to pressure the Jr. Bruins in their own end but were unable to score the equalizer.

SWIMMING

Nashua Storm drenches Exeter

The Greater Nashua YMCA Storm swam in an invitational meet at Philips Academy’s George Love Pool in Exeter. Fifteen teams from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont participated in the meet.

Seventy-three Storm swimmers achieved personal best times during the meet. Four Storm swimmers broke six team records. Carl-Nico Laborera broke his own team record in the Boys 13-14 100 Backstroke. Eric Howard broke three team records in the Boys 15-over 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke. Catherine Green broke the team record in Girls 13-14 200 Butterfly. Khristoffer Ortiz also broke the team record for 200 Butterfly for Boys 15-over.

Andrew Chaviano had a strong meet scoring a first in the Boys 11-12 Backstroke, while coming in second, fourth and fifth in other events. Howard also performed well at the meet with one second place (Boys Open 100 Freestyle), two thirds and a fourth in his four events.
