GYMNASTICS

NSG shines at Mass. Halloween meet

The Nashua School of Gymnastics enjoyed the Halloween-themed meet at Yellow Jackets Gymnastics Academy in Middleton, Mass., on Oct. 30.

Participation medals and event awards were presented to the gymnasts.

The gymnasts needed an All Around score of 31.00 to qualify for Sectionals.

Level 4

Emily Colburn qualified with an All Around score of 37.25. She scored 9.45 on vault, 9.30 on bars, 9.00 on beam and 9.50 on floor.

Kyelin King-Elalaoiu qualified with an All Around score of 37.05. She scored 9.60 on vault, 9.10 on bars, 9.10 on beam and 9.25 on floor.

Emma Lynch qualified with an All Around score of 36.30. She scored 9.35 on vault, 9.00 on bars, 8.90 on beam and 9.05 on floor.

Brenna Vivier qualified with an All Around score of 35.25. She scored 9.05 on vault, 8.80 on bars, 8.30 on beam and 9.10 on floor.

Corey Foster qualified with an All Around score of 34.55. She scored 9.10 on vault, 8.00 on bars, 8.60 on beam and 8.85 on floor.

Reese Greenleaf qualified with an All Around score of 31.90. She scored 8.40 on vault, 7.60 on bars, 7.50 on beam and 8.40 on floor.

Kaitlyn West earned an All Around score of 30.95. She scored 8.30 on vault, 7.80 on bars, 6.70 on beam and 8.15 on floor.

Level 5

Devon Rosier qualified with an All Around score of 35.60. She scored 8.80 on vault, 8.80 on bars, 9.10 on beam and 8.90 on floor.

Jenna Hantula earned an All Around score of 26.375 ( previously qualified). She scratched vault, scored 8.70 on bars, 9.350 on beam and 8.325 on floor.

Level 6

Blake Boulia qualified with an All Around score of 34.20. She scored 8.850 on vault, 8.20 on bars, 9.00 on beam and 8.15 on floor.

Kayla Townsend qualified with an All Around score of 34.20. She scored 8.650 on vault, 8.60 on bars, 9.00 on beam and 7.95 on floor.

HOCKEY

Squirt II Panthers’ win full of firsts

In a Valley League matchup last Saturday, the Nashua Panthers Squirt II squad recorded their first win of the season, as Nashua scored a 2-0 victory over Chelmsford, Mass.

With the win came a couple of other firsts for the team – goalie Daniel Smith was solid throughout the game for his first shutout of the season and winger Liam Smith scored his first goal of the season at 3:25 of the third period.

Isaiah Kepnes opened the scoring in the second minute of the final period with his eighth goal of the season He also assisted on Smith’s goal. Brody MacLean assisted on both Panther goals.

SWIMMING

Storm gusts into Manchester YMCA

The Greater Nashua YMCA Storm swim team had another strong showing at the Manchester YMCA Invitational. The six-team meet took place at the YMCA Allard Center in Goffstown.

Seventy-seven Storm swimmers achieved personal best times during the meet. Three Storm swimmers broke team records, including Kerry McCann (girls 11-12 400 individual medley), Carl-Nico Laborera (boys 13-14 100 backstroke) and Eric Howard (boys 15-over 100 backstroke).

There were several examples of Storm team success at the meet, including first places in girls 9-10 200 free relay by Lauren Brennan, Olivia Petropulos, Nicole Gagnon and Mattea Dumdey; the girls 9-10 200 medley relay by Jacqueline Dumont, Dumdey, Gagnon and Brennan); and the boys 11-12 200 medley relay Michael Lai, Andrew Chaviano, Bryan-Norris Laborera and Bryan Li. The team also brought home eight second place relay finishes.

Other top performances included first-place Evelyn Duffy (U8, 25 breaststroke) and Howard (13-over, 100 backstroke). Howard also took a second place (100 butterfly).

Bryan-Norris Laborera took two second place finishes (50 backstroke, 200 IM).

SOCCER

NH Cobras hold Fall Awards Banquet

The New Hampshire Cobras of the Nashua Soccer Club concluded the fall soccer season with their third annual Fall Awards Banquet at Chunky’s Cinema and Pub on Nov.1. More than 240 players, parents and friends packed two theaters to honor Cobras athletes for their participation in club activities this past fall.

Every member of each team was recognized with an individual participation medal and certificate, and each team had individual players that were recognized for outstanding achievements and contributions to the team. Each team was also highlighted on the big screen with a special DVD of soccer photos and videos set to music. Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau was on hand to offer a few words of support and assist with handing out awards. After receiving an honorary coach’s shirt, she was dubbed, “Coach Mayor.”

Club president Peter Jean, served as master of ceremonies and introduced guest speaker Bryan Scales, a Team USA coach, who was recently promoted to Director of Youth Player Development for the New England Revolution.

Scales, a Nashua resident, has also joined the Cobras in his new role as Technical Adviser of the NH Cobras SC, where he will assist with player development and coaches’ education in addition to coaching two of their travel teams.

Scales addressed parents and players and expressed admiration as he described the Cobras as a fun, family-oriented place for kids to grow in their love of soccer while also learning from their sound curriculum for teaching technical skills.

Through their affiliation with the New England Revolution Academy, the Cobras Fundraising Committee was able to obtain and raffle off a Tom Brady autographed jersey. The winner was Mike Fenlen of Nashua.

After the program concluded, players and their families were treated to a viewing of the movie “Secretariat.”

Registrations for the Winter Skills Program and the 2011 spring season are still open. Winter Skills will be headed by Scales. In the spring, New England Revolution Academy Team Training and Player Development and Coaches’ Education Programs will also continue to be offered for all of our travel teams. Olympic Development tryouts set for Nov. 21

The New Hampshire Olympic Development Program is holding tryouts for the 2010-11 season on Sunday, Nov. 21 at the Northeast Athletic Club fields in Pembroke.

NHSA ODP is a program designed to identify and develop the top youth soccer players throughout New Hampshire to represent their state association, region and the United States in soccer competition.

Players selected for Winter Pool will train every other week at the Hampshire Dome in Milford from December through early March, at which time the final selection will be made to determine the 2011 state ODP rosters. All players wishing to try out are encouraged to pre-register and pay a $25 fee online prior to the tryout date. Every player who completes the tryout registration will receive a NHSA ODP t-shirt.

Girls tryout runs from 10 a.m.-noon (registration 9-10 a.m.) with a parent meeting at 10:15. The boys take the pitch from noon-2 p.m. (registration 11 a.m.-noon) with a parent meeting at 12:15. WRESTLING

BGCGN clinics are fast approaching

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua will hold two Saturday morning wrestling clinics on Nov. 13 and 20 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in 47 Grand Ave.

Boys and girls in kindergarten-eighth grade invited. Open to non-club members and residents of surrounding towns. No experience is necessary. $10 fee covers both clinics. Those who wish to continue after the clinics may participate on BGCGN’s youth wrestling teams during its winter season.

BGCGN, Hudson holding sign-ups

Wrestling teams operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua at Nashua’s three public middle schools and Hudson Memorial Middle School are signing up students now for an early-November start.

Practices are held at-school, after school, and teams compete in the interschlastic Tri-County Middle School Athletic League. Open to boys and girls in grades 6-8. No experience is necessary.

Fairgrounds students should see Mr. Lauria in Room TE-2 or Mr. Pinault in Room 807. Elm St. students should see Principal Mike Fredericksen in the Main Office. Pennichuck Students should see Mr. Arbogast in Room 13.

Hudson Memorial students should sign up in the principal’s office.
