Sunset Heights, Infant Jesus win PAL elementary titles

Sunset Heights and Infant Jesus captured the team titles at last weekend’s Nashua Police Athletic League City Elementary School Cross Country Championships.

Over 800 youth runners from 15 public and private schools participated in the program, culminating in the 15th annual championship race at Nashua High School North.

The day’s races, sponsored in part by Loco Sports, were run in four flights: two 2 kilometer races for boys and girls in third grade and under, and two 3 kilometer races for boys and girls in fifth grade and under.

Infant Jesus School won the Deb Fraser Cup, awarded annually to the first place girls team in the 3k race, followed by New Searles and Sunset Heights.

The Mark Fraser cup for the boys team 3k champion went to Sunset Heights, with Bicentennial and Main Dunstable placing second and third, respectively.

U7 Flag: PAL squads co-champs of NHYFSC Flag Super Bowl

Nashua played host to the largest Flag Football Super Bowl in New Hampshire history. Ten teams from across New Hampshire and Massachusetts brought over 120 players to Artillery Field where 20 games were played and each team participated in four competitive matches.

The Nashua PAL squads went undefeated in the event, notching six wins and two ties, and bringing Nashua’s combined season record to 19-3-4.

The Force Yellow squad went 3-0-1 on the day, finishing the season 10-1-2, while the Force Blue team squad also went 3-0-1, finishing the season 9-2-2.

PAL Yellow opened the Super Bowl with a tie against the Bedford Jaguars behind the running of Patrick Costa and DJ Declement, which set up touchdowns by Kobe Pacheco and Devyn Lavoie. The Manchester East Cobras fell to the Force as Art McLaughlin and Reid Lavoie opened up running lanes for Drew Sheehan, Costa and Pacheco for touchdowns. The Mill City (Lawrence, Mass.) Maulers held the PAL team to a tie, with scores by Costa and Pacheco, while Nicholas Klayton and Trent Jackson anchored the defense. In the last game of the Super Bowl, Force Yellow beat the Vikings of NorRock behind the relentless defense of Aidan Watson and David Simpson.

PAL Force Blue spread the ball around with eight players scoring touchdowns.

On the first play of the Super Bowl, Patrick Keegan optioned to Charlie Bellavance on a reverse that left Bellavance dancing in the end zone and the Franklin Falcons confused. Defensive stopper Bobby Canaway almost single-handedly kept the Falcons off the board, while Airyan Cora and Keegan piled on the scoring.

Next up were the Eagles from Goffstown, a tight match featuring touchdowns by Zaeden Crocker and Keegan, until a last play breakaway run by Xavier Francis won the contest for PAL.

The third game of the day pitted the NorRock Vikings against the Force Blue with the Super Bowl’s most amazing touchdown by speedy Cody Morton. Jayden Allen and Ben Mullett were shutdown defenders, limiting the Vikings offense to two touchdowns while Cora, Bellavance and Keegan all scored touchdowns. In the last game of the day, Force Blue tied the Manchester East Cobras on the running strength Nick Digesse and Jessy Allen.

3rd grade: PAL defeats Plymouth

Led by game captains Mike Zabriskie, Shaun Marion, Brody Mills and Kyle Krulikowski the PAL Force 3rd graders beat Plymouth on the road. Robbie Long, Jamie Heitmiller and Keegan Mills put the points on the board, behind strong offensive performances by Chris Heitmiller (long run after catch, plus great blocking) Owen Finn and Donovan LaBate. Patrick Melanson, John Jigarjian, Logan Mathewson, Jaiden Dupont, Jack Zabriskie and Shea Philbrook all played shut down defense.

The 3rd fnished the regular season at 5-3.

4th grade: Plymouth 34, PAL 0

The PAL Force 4th graders were on the short end of a 34-0 road game against Plymouth. Tyler Downing, Austin Ouellette, Brian Montminy turned in solid perfromances on offense, while Max Wright, Alex George, Michael Gillespie, Logan Boucher and Luc Blondeau fought in the defensive trenches.

4th grade: Elks Crusaders 26, Keene 7

The Nashua Crusaders ended their regular season with a big victory over the Keene Knights. Nashua jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter following a long touchdown pass from quarterback Andrew Penkala to Jeffrey Reza, while fullback Jake Robbins scored the extra point. Nashua’s offense stayed extremely active for the remainder of the half and received two additional touchdowns from Penkala and Robbins, and entered the half up 20-0 following an extra point scramble from Penkala.

Keene made some second half adjustments and kept Nashua out of the end zone during the third quarter.

In the early part of the fourth quarter, Penkala scored his second touchdown of the afternoon to put Nashua up 26-7 and provide insurance on the final outcome. The Crusaders’ offense also received tremendous contributions and blocking from Jeramiah Lones, Max Sheppard, Mike Robbins, Braden McDonnell, Brendan Frost, Aaron Noonan and Quincy Cotto.

The Nashua defense picked up right where they left off from the previous week and played extremely well all game. Leading Nashua in tackles, including a quarterback sack, was Casey McNally. Also playing well and collecting multiple tackles were Christian Belonga (fumble recovery), Jack D’Amato, Cole Desmond, Sam Barisano, Jason Messier and Penkala. Nashua’s special teams also played a big part in the victory. Tighe McNulty had two key special team recoveries and McNally kicked effectively all game.

5th grade: Plymouth 27, PAL 12

The PAL 5th graders finished the regular season at 4-3, dropping a 27-12 decision to Plymouth on the road. Schyler Boykin scored twice, once on a run, and once on a pass from Johnny Michelin who had a great game at quaterback.

Jacob Kostansek and Alexe Mallor both ran the ball effectively behind tough blocking from Timmy Rose and Adonis Johnson. On defense, Troy Bottari came up with two fumble recoveries.

Seyvon Sanchez, CJ Grondin and Nevan Roy anchored the defense.

6th grade: Salem 35, PAL 6

The PAL Force 6th grade team finished the season with a .500 record at 4-4. The 2010 team is Tylor Chase, Levi Gosselin, Joe Bernard, Jared Levesque, Shane Winnett, Hunter Law, Stephen Giaconia, Matt Kratman, Jorge Rivera, Zach Bodwell, Justin Anderson, Mason Dane, AJ Vitali, Jose Melendez, Finn Littlefield, Enaceo Leclaire, Joe Allen, Austin Rancourt, Trey Legraw, Andrew Donegan, Steve Lambert, Oscar Velazquez and Patrick Holt.

Middle School Varsity: Pelham 45, PAL 6

The PAL Force middle school “varsity” team finished the regular season at 5-2, with a tough loss to Pelham. Matt Lavallee recorded a touchdown and a quarterback sack.

Connor Bladassaro and Demitiri Jackson caught passes, and Jackson added an interception. The varsity squad made the playoffs.

Middle School JV: Pelham 42, PAL 6

The PAL Force Middle School junior varisty dropped a 42-6 contest to Pelham with Jordan Delgado scoring the only PAL touchdown. Zack Janoff, David Muite and Mike Muchemore had solid days on offense.

GYMNASTICS

NEGTC hosts state’s first Sectional

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson hosted the 2010 State Sectional No. 1. There were three full sessions for this meet with our Levels 4s and 6s competing in the third session.

Many of our gymnasts took home top place ribbons for each event at this meet. This meet is one of the qualifying meets for the State Meet held in December. Each gymnast needed an All-Around score of 33.000 or higher to qualify.

(Age 6-8)

Thaovy Vivian Le, Nashua – placed 8th All Around with a score of 35.575. She received a 9.2 on Vault (6th T) 8.475 on Bars (14th) 8.85 on Beam (6th) 9.05 on Floor(3rd)

(9-10)

Rachael Lavalle, Pelham placed 2nd All Around with a score of 34.800. She received a 9.025 on Vault (5th) 8.65 on Bars (5th) 8.2 on Beam (3rd T) 8.925 on Floor (3rd )

Brooke Williams, Bedford tied for 6th place All Around with a score of 33.625. She received a 8.775 on Vault (8th) 8.0 on Bars(8th ) 7.7on Beam (5th) 9.150 on Floor (1st)

Seana Kelly, Londonderry placed 7th All Around with a score of 33.000. She received a 9.125 on Vault (3rd) 8.05 on Bars (7th) 7.4 on Beam (7th) 8.425 on Floor (5th).

NSG solid at Sectional

The Nashua School of Gymnastics had a strong showing at the first Sectional held at NEGTC on Sunday. The gymnasts needed an All Around score of 33.00 to qualify for the Winter States competition.

Level 4

(Ages 6-8)

Emily Colburn qualified with an All Around of 35.125 (1st). She earned 9.125 (3rd) on vault, 8.225 on bars, 8.90 (1st) on beam, and 8.875 (1st) on floor.

Breanna Vivier qualified with an All Around of 33.30. She earned 8.725 on vault, 7.40 on bars, 8.40 on beam, and 8.775 (2nd) on floor.

Level 4

(9-10)

Kyelin King-Elalaoui qualified with an All Around of 34.725 (4th). She earned 9.20 (2nd) on vault, 8.375 on bars, 8.65 (5th) on beam, and 8.50 on floor.

Emma Lynch qualified with an All Around of 34.15. She earned 9.025 (5th) on vault, 8.40 (5th) on bars, 7.90 on beam, and 8.825 (4th) on floor.

Jenna Hantula qualified with an All Around score of 34.95 (6th). She scored 8.05 on vault, 8.65 (6th) on bars, 9.40 (2nd) on beam and 8.85 on floor.

Devon Rosier qualified with an All Around score of 34.15. She scored 7.925 on vault, 8.20 on bars, 8.875 (4th) on beam and 9.15 (3rd) on floor.

Level 6

(9-11)

Kayla Townsend earned an All Around score of 32.650. She scored 8.45 ( 4th) on vault, 8.50 ( 3rd) on bars, 7.85 on beam and 7.85 on floor.

Blake Boulia earned an All Around score of 32.550. She scored 8.175 on vault, 7.75 on bars, 8.00 on beam and 8.05 on floor.

SOCCER

Nashua U12 Cobras 2, Pelham 3

The Cobras were ahead 2-1 at the half, but Pelham played a strong second half to win the game. McKay McFadden and Jonathan Snow played a solid defensive game. Partha Porika played an outstanding game at goalie, taking 31 shots on goal.

Levi Hazard made a strong corner kick to Conor Canfield, who kicked it in for the score.

Caio Campos made a strong run down the middle for a goal, while Hazard and Canfield both made several other attempts at a goal.
