TRYOUTS/REGISTRATION

CROSS COUNTRY

GATE CITY STRIDERS: Registration for the Gate City Striders Youth Cross Country program is Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 3-5 p.m. at Mine Falls Park (Stellos Stadium entrance at 2 Riverside St., Nashua). All youth runners (boys and girls ages 7-18) are invited to join. There are no tryouts.

The season begins Thursday, Oct. 28 and continues through mid-December. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. and are led by experienced coaches that will prepare runners to compete in the USATF Junior Olympic program.

The $50 registration fee includes USATF membership and USATF race entry fees. Bring completed application, copy of birth certificate and payment. Visit the Youth Running page at www.gatecity.org to download forms, and to get more information about the program, including meet schedule.

The GCS youth program is a year-round program offering Cross Country and Track & Field, as well as opportunities for training and racing in the off-season. Contact Coach Mike Wright at 661-8180 or mmscoachwright@comcast.net if you have any questions.

NASHUA PAL: Registrations for the Nashua PAL Cross Country program will take place on Oct. 25. This session will be held on the first day of PAL Cross Country practice at the Nashua High School School track from 4-5:30 p.m.

Registrations are open to runners of all skill levels from Nashua and the surrounding area. Teams are age-based and registration is open to runners born from 1992-2001. Registration forms will be available at the sign-ups or can be obtained in advance at www.NashuPALRaces.com. Registration fees will be $50 per runner (first runner in a family), with reduced fees for additional runners from the same family and a $100 per family cap. Registration fees cover USA Track and Field membership and entry fees for USATF races. For all PAL programs, registration fee waivers and reductions are available for qualifying families.

Nashua PAL Cross Country Cruiser teams take part in the USATF’s Junior Olympic program and have a long record of success at the local, regional and national level. Last year, four PAL teams participated in the National Championship races. WRESTLING

BGCGN: The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua will hold two Saturday morning wrestling clinics on Nov. 13 and 20 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in 47 Grand Ave. Boys and girls in kindergarten-eighth grade invited. Open to non-club members and residents of surrounding towns. No experience is necessary. $10 fee covers both clinics. Those who wish to continue after the clinics may participate on BGCGN’s youth wrestling teams during its winter season. NASHUA/HUDSON MIDDLES SCHOOL: Wrestling teams operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua at Nashua’s three public middle schools and Hudson Memorial Middle School are signing up students now for an early-November start. Practices are held at-school, after school, and teams compete in the interschlastic Tri-County Middle School Athletic League. Open to boys and girls in grades 6-8. No experience is necessary. Fairgrounds students should see Mr. Lauria in Room TE-2 or Mr. Pinault in Room 807. Elm St. students should see Principal Mike Fredericksen in the Main Office. Pennichuck Students should see Mr. Arbogast in Room 13. Hudson Memorial students should sign up in the principal’s office. BASEBALL

NH HAWKS: The NH Hawks AAU team is looking to add a few more players to the U14 roster for the 2011 season. Player fees are low and there is no cost for additional private instruction. DIAMOND DEVILS: The New Hampshire Diamond Devils sponsored by the Nashua Baseball Academy have openings for the 2011 10-year-old team. The age determination date is May 1, 2011. The Diamond Devils offer twice a week offseason training, private lessons and a 25/30 game schedule. Any athlete is welcome to tryout regardless of where you play your local ball and local league participation is encouraged. NH GRIZZLIES: The NH Grizzlies are holding individual tryouts for their U14 and U15 2011 teams. This year round program by NH’s oldest AAU baseball organization that includes off season workouts in hitting, pitching and catching mechanics also offers a very competitive game schedule with out of state tournament venues as well as local games. GRANITE STATE OWLS: The Granite State Owls and Extra Innings Nashua have announced tryouts for NH’s newest AAU Baseball program. We are looking for U12 and U13 players for the 2011 season. Each team will be sponsored by NIKE and travel to a national tournament after the regular season. Tryouts will be every Saturday for the month of October at 10 a.m. at the Hollis/Brookline High School baseball field. FOOTBALL

WRESTLING

MYA: The MYA Wrestling Program is currently searching for a new head coach. We are looking for a coach that can commit to being at practices and tournaments. Our wrestling season runs from November through the end of February. We have practice on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. This is strictly a volunteer position. BASKETBALL

NHBCO COACHES CLINIC: The New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization is holding its fifth annual Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Exeter High School.

There are two clinics available – Clinic 1 is for high school coaches (rules interpretation included), while Clinic 2 is geared for youth basketball coaches.

Sessions focus on teaching basketball skills and concepts for elementary and middle school age players. The Clinic is open to for all coaches. You do not have to be a NHBCO member to attend. Certificate of participation will be given out with hours for professional development. There are seven sessions available for high school coaches and two youth sessions.

High School Clinic costs $40 at the door or $35 if you pre-register.

Discounts for NHBCO membership dues and clinic is $65 ($10 savings). Dues and whole staff (up to four coaches from same gender program) is $125 ($60 savings).

NHIAA enrolled coaches can receive an additional $5 off if they show their NHIAA Coaches Card as proof of enrollment.

Youth Clinic costs $20 at the door or $15 for pre-registered coaches.

Discounts for whole town or organization $75 at the door, or $50 pre-registered.
