NEGTC gymnast qualifies for National TOPs in Texas

By Staff | Sep 12, 2010

Litchfield’s Hailey Reiff is at the top of her game.

The member of the New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson is one of thousands of gymnasts training in the Talent Opportunity Program (TOPs). For the second consecutive year, Reiff has qualified to test nationally at the USA Gymnastics National Training Center in Houston.

A 10-year-old Level 8 gymnast at NEGTC, she was All-Around State Champion at Spring States in 2008, All-Around State Champion at Winter States in 2009, and took first place in beam, vault and floor at the Spring States in 2010.

She will be leaving for Texas on Sept. 30 to participate in three days of TOPs testing. Last year, she participated in the testing and was selected to the National TOPs B Team. Her goal this year is to make the National TOPs “A” team.

TOPs was started by USA Gymnastics to help encourage, educate and identify talented young female gymnasts throughout the country along with their coaches. During the months of June and July, female gymnasts ages 7-11 are tested and evaluated at the state and regional levels. Qualifying gymnasts are then invited to Texas to participate in the National TOPs test that is conducted in October. Selected gymnasts are then invited to participate in the National TOPs training camp in Texas, which takes place in December.
