Nashua Elks Greater Nashua Soccer Shoot set for Aug. 21

By Staff | Aug 1, 2010

The Nashua Lodge of Elks #720, with the cooperation of the New Hampshire Cobras of the Nashua Soccer Club, will be holding its 11th annual Greater Nashua Soccer Shoot contest on Saturday morning, Aug. 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Main Dunstable Soccer Fields (Route 111-A) in Nashua (near Main Dunstable School).

Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each of the eight groups (four boys and four girls). First place winners will compete in the Elks State Soccer Shoot Championship on Oct. 2 in Dover.

The Elks Greater Nashua Soccer Shoot is a two-stage contest that best represents the skill levels of four age groups: U8, U10, U12 and U14. The participant’s age on Aug. 1, 2010 is used to determine the contestant’s age division.

The Five-Goal Contest is a succession of separate smaller ground level goal targets for the U8 and U10 participants (15 kicks).

The Grid Goal Contest uses the penalty kick distance (36-feet) to challenge the older U12 and U14 participants (15 kicks).

Professional Cobra trainers Peter Jean and Danny Dawson will be on hand to offer a series of player clinics as a part of the day’s festivities.

The NH Cobras are based out of Nashua, and offer the opportunity for area youth to participate in a variety of soccer programs ranging from their Academy programs for youth ages 4 through 7 to their developmental travel programs for youth ages 8 through 11 to their competitive travel programs for youth ages 12 through 19.

The NH Cobras have recently partnered with the New England Revolution Academy, the official player developmental program of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. By partnering with the Revs, all NH Cobra players will receive specialized training by Revolution Academy coaches including some of the coaches of the New England Revolution.

The Elks Shootout and the Cobra clinics are open to all interested boys and girls from area towns including Hudson, Litchfield, Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Merrimack, Milford, Wilton and Nashua.

All participants must register prior to their participation. Registrations will begin at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge for participating in either the Elks Greater Nashua Soccer Shoot or the Cobra Soccer Clinics.

In the event of a rain cancellation, the programs will be rescheduled to Sunday, Aug. 22 at the same location and times. For additional information, contact Al Savage, Elks Youth Chairman, at 888-0064 or visit the NH Cobras website at www.nhcobrassc.
