SWIMMING

NASHUA PARKS-REC.: The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department is accepting 2010 summer swim lesson registrations. Registration forms are available at the Recreation Office in Greeley Park and on the web at www.gonashua.com. Parents can sign up their child for two of the three sessions prior to July 5. After July 5, registrations will be accepted for remaining sessions.

Swim Lessons are $20 per child or a maximum of $60 per family per session. Early Bird signups will run until June 24. Each session runs two weeks and lessons are 30 minutes in length. All lessons take place between 9 a.m.-noon.

Dates of the sessions are as follows: Session 1 June 28-July 9; Session 2 July 19-30; and Session 3 from Aug. 9-20.

FINS: The FINS Swim Team will be offering a summer training clinic for novice and experienced competitive swimmers from June 23-Aug. 6 in the outdoor pool at the Nashua Swim and Tennis Club (140 Lock St.) and the indoor pool at the Boys and Girls Club of Nashua (47 Grand Ave.).

The novice clinic will include three sessions per week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the Nashua Swim and Tennis Club. This clinic will be geared toward young athletes (7-10 years) who are just beginning competitive swimming and will focus on proper stroke technique in each of the four competitive strokes, as well as starts and turns. Please note: This is NOT a beginner swim lesson program. Novice swimmers must be able to complete at least 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. The novice clinic is appropriate for current FINS in the Red practice group as well as non-FINS who meet the above criteria.

The program for more experienced swimmers will include four sessions per week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Nashua Swim and Tennis Club and Sunday mornings from 9-11 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. As a baseline, swimmers in this group should be able to swim 10x100s on two minutes.

Both clinics are open to FINS and non-FINS swimmers. The cost for the summer session is $150 per swimmer.

SOCCER

NH COBRAS: The NH Cobras of the Nashua Soccer Club, in partnership with the New England Revolution Soccer Academy is offering free clinics for the week of June 15. Boys and girls attending will be elligble to be placed on a team. The schedule is: U7 and U8 on Tuesday, June 15; U9 and U10 on Wednesday, June 16; U11 and U12 Thursday, June 17; U13 and U14 on Friday, June 18. FIELD HOCKEY

ASTROS SHOOT FOR THE STARS: The annual Astros Shoot for the Stars field hockey camp will run the weeks of July 12 and July 19 from 8 a.m.-noon at Rider field in Derry from Monday through Friday. Beginners to high school varsity players are welcome from grades 4-12. The cost is $100 for one week and $175 for two weeks and includes insurance, camper pack and instruction. Goalies should bring their own equipment.

CROSS COUNTRY

NASHUA PAL: Get a jumpstart on your elementary school cross country season this year by participating in the Nashua PAL Cross Country Running Camp. The program will be held Aug. 16-20 and/or Aug. 23-27 (5:30-7 p.m. daily, rain or shine) at the Nashua High School South track. The camp cost is $20/week (camp t-shirt is included with two weeks tuition). This program is for children attending third, fourth and fifth grade in the fall of 2010. The primary goal of this program is personal achievement, individual success and the development of healthy habits in a fun and social atmosphere. As a participant, your child will be encouraged to set personal goals and work to achieve those goals with a renewed sense of pride in their accomplishments. BASKETBALL

MILFORD HOOP CAMP: The Spartans Rebounders Club, under the direction of varsity basketball coach Dan Murray, will be hosting a pair of camps this summer, June 28-July 2 and July 26-30. The camps, which runs daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., is for boys and girls aged 8-16 and most $125 per session. Brochures are available at locals schools or by calling 672-7140.

FOOTBALL

MERRIMACK QB CLUB: The Merrimack High School Quarterback Club will be sponsoring a youth football clinic this summer for ages 7-12.

Conducted under the guidance and support of head coach Joe Battista and his staff, this clinic promises a great opportunity for all who participate to improve on the fundamental skills of the game and help increase the level of play.

NH GRIZZLIES: The NH Grizzlies have a few select openings for players to play in the AAYBA World Series Tournament July 17-25 in St. Louis, Mo.

MYA BASKETBALL: The Merrimack Youth Association Basketball Program will hold elections for positions on the Board of Directors on Monday at the MYA Building. Positions are held for 1 year and run from July to June.
