Nashua Knights

The U14 Nashua Knights split two division games with the Southern Maine Trojans on May 30 at Holman Stadium. The Knights lost a heartbreaker in the first game as they came back twice to tie the score, only to leave the tying and winning runs on base in the last inning.

In the second game the Knights prevailed 14-11 as pitcher Robbie Flohr got the win. Offensively the Knights (5-1) were led by Evan Richardson, Brendan Robbins, C.J. Boykin and Jason Ferlan.

The U13 NH Knights took two division games from the Granite State Gators on Saturday May 25 at Holman Stadium. In the first game John Vidal got the win, 11-7, with five strong innings. Offensively Brendan Martin, Dario Vitagliano and Matt Lavallee had two hits each.

In the second game Cameron Cox got the win as the Knights outscored the Gators 17-7. Martin was on base 5 times and scored five runs. Ethan Brodell had four hits and Lavallee had three. Shea Whalen had two hits and scored three runs and Mike Demers scored three runs.

Braves 10, Diamondbacks (West) 7

The Braves ended their interleague season with the West League beating the Diamondbacks by the score of 10-7. Spencer Bergeron went 4 for 4 with two singles and two doubles. Curtt Delaney reached base three times and scored on each occasion. Nolan Hilger and Heather Roscoe each contribute with singles. The Braves move to 7-4 on the season.

Royals 4, Braves (West) 7

The Royals struggled due to great pitching from the Braves. Mike Muchemore, Jack Barnes, Connor Mullaly and Shane Legraw picked up hits for the Royals.

Royals 8, Diamondbacks (North) 4

The D-backs jumped on top first and added on three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth the Royals tied on hits by Barnes, Muchemore, Alex Richard and Andrew Pena capped by a solo blast from Lukas Atwood.

Orioles (West) 12, Royals 5

Shane Legraw hit his first home run of the year for the Royals and Michael Muchemore had two hits including a double.

Braves 6, Orioles (West) 7

The Braves lost to the West Orioles by the score of 7-6. Rough start for the Braves, falling behind 7-2 after three innings. The Braves made it interesting, scoring two in the fifth, and scoring another two in their last at bat. Heather Roscoe, Curtt Delaney and Spencer Bergeron had the only hits of the game for the Braves.

Cubs (North) 4, Royals 1

This game was all about the pitching as the Cubs Sam McCarthy pitched a gem holding the Royals to one hit and run. The Royals played a good defensive game.

AAA

Braves 8, Orioles 6

Nate Nuggent pitched 5 strong innings for the Orioles and made two fantastic defensive plays on the field but the Braves were able to hang on to a slim lead with great pitching and team defense and improved there record to 9-1

Indians 16, Orioles 6

For the visiting AAA Indians, Eric Poublon and Austin Ouellette pitched great scattering three hits. Both Poublon and Jack Hyland had good days at the plate. For the home team AAA Orioles Bryce Eckenrode and Isaac Bates pitched well. Nathan Nugent and Lexis Gayac had good days at the plate accounting for all the Orioles hits.

Braves 11, Cubs 1

The Braves tallied six runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a Chris Cruz walkoff grand slam, to beat the Cubs 11-1. Cruz (double) and Jacob Burbank (double) both scored a pair of runs. Mike Osgood, Gavin Pelletier, Timmy Brown, Shawn Boudreau, Mike Pelletier, Larry Lassiter, and Rocco Restalli all scored single runs for the Braves. Osgood got the win on the mound, striking out five in two innings, while Lassiter held the Cubs at bay with a pair of shutout innings. Mike Habibi provided the Cubs’ only offense with a home run and a single.

Braves 15, NW Orioles 2

Larry Lassiter went all four innings for the Braves holding the Orioles to just a pair of runs while striking out six batters for the win. Jacob Burbank paced the Braves offense with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Gavin Pelletier had two hits (home run), two RBIs and scored three runs. Timmy Brown and Chris Cruz also scored twice each while Mike Pelletier and Lassiter both drove in two runs apiece. Shawn Boudreau had a solid game at second base while also driving in three runs with a bases-clearing double.

Braves 7, NW Royals 4

The Braves held off the Royals for the victory. Jacob Burbank and Mike Osgood combined on the mound for eight strikeouts. Osgood had a stellar night offensively hitting his first home run of the season and scoring twice. Burbank also scored twice while also driving in a pair of runs. Chris Cruz reached base three times scoring once for the Braves.

Braves 5, Orioles 2

The Braves came from behind to nip the Orioles, 5-2. Jacob Burbank went the distance for the Braves striking out nine batters and only giving up two hits. Max Osgood started both the game tieing and go ahead rallies with a pair of singles and scoring twice. Mike Osgood had two hits (double) and also scored twice. Burbank scored the other Braves run while also driving one home. Chris Cruz had the other Braves RBI. For the Orioles, Tyler Watkins pitched a dominant two innings striking out five of the six batters he faced.

Padres 13 Brewers 1

For The Brewers Kellen Sheehan pitched a great game into the 5th inning striking out ten, only giving up one hit and one earned run. With two out in the fifth with the score 3-1 the Padres strung together some hits and put ten runs on the board in the last two at bats. The Padres pitching was also superb, throwing a no-hitter. Pitchers Damon Glastetter and Adam Fenalson combined for an impressive eighteen strikeouts in six innings.

Offensively the Padres had 12 hits in the game. These hits came from the following players: Matt Palazzo, Patrick Holt, Adam Fenalson, Damon Glastetter, Victor Gil, Justin Cardillo, JJ Durcharme, Michael Costa and Colin Dexter. The hit of the night game came from Patrick Holt, hitting a ball to the fence in right-center for an in-the-park home run.

Brewers 14 White Sox 2

For the Brewers, Alonso Linton and Cam Gillespie combined to pitch a great game. Alonzo Linton had six strikeouts, four walks, no hits and no runs over two innings. Gillespie had seven strikeouts, no walks, four hits and gave up only two runs over three innings of work. The Brewers had 13 hits. Michaila Sheehan had a two-run single, Drew Faria had a two-run double, Gillespie was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Mateo Faria had a two-run triple. Jake Lord was called up to the minors and scored two runs.

Giants 10 Phillies 6

The Giants got great pitching from both of their pitchers with Nick Quinion pitching two innings while striking out three limiting the Phillies to four runs on two hits and Spencer Dozios who pitched four innings of no-hit relief striking out 11 Phillies. The Giants scored 10 runs on 10 hits led by Luke Sanford who had two singles and scored two runs. Spencer Dozios had a single and a double, Quinion had a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, J.J. Dupont scored twice and had a single, and Sean Scully had a single and a run scored.

For the Phillies Adam Gosselin struck out six batters in his two innings of work. Spencer Desrosiers caught all six innings, recording a close tag of a runner trying to steal home. At the plate, Desrosiers, Zak Almeida, Brad Leviele and Jason Morin all had RBI-hits, highlighted by Jason Messier’s triple in the second inning to give the visitors the lead.

Rays 14 Mariners 6

The Rays were able to get a few timely hits that were the difference in this game. Only three Rays were able to gets hits against the Mariners pitching, Evan Baldassaro was 4 for 4 with two doubles, scoring three runs, Gabe Perrault was 2 for 2 with three walks, scoring three runs. For the Mariners, Jacob Demers, Mike Correa, and Nathan Demers pitched well, combining for 12 strikeouts.

Rays 15 Mets 5

This was a solid win for the Rays with contributions by everyone. Matt Dutra, in his first time pitching this year, closed the last two innings of the game he followed Hunter Routhier and they both pitched very well. Aiden Van Battenberg had two hits and scored two runs, Hunter Routhier had two hits and scored three runs, Evan Baldassaro had a double and scored three runs, Chris Perez, Tyler Bellemare and Perrault each had a double while Chris Markunas and Brianna Rittenberg also had hits.

Padres 9, Phillies 1

Phillies pitchers were able to strike out 15 Padres batters and only allow three hits. The Padres pitchers were able to match the Phillies pitchers with a solid performance of their own. Damon Glastetter and Adam Fenalson combined for 15 strikeouts. Offensively the Padres had hits Glastetter and Justin Cardillo.

For the Phillies, Spencer Desrosiers threw his best this season giving up only two runs and one hit in 31?3 innings while striking out eight. Bryson Bagley worked 11?3 innings of relief giving up no runs and no hits, striking out four. Zak Almeida singled to drive in the lone Phillies run.

MAJORS

A’s 2 Twins 1

Tyler Vartabedian turned in another strong pitching performance, striking out 11 Twins over six innings while surrendering just one walk and contributing offensively with an opposite-field triple before scoring on a wild pitch. Noah Morse earned game ball honors with an RBI-triple and a strong defensive effort at second base. Jarred Varga also played well defensively at third base, and scored one of the A’s two runs.

Cardinals 11, Yankees 9

The Yankees winning streak finally ended in a game whose score was closer than the game really was. Colby Gunter threw 40 pitches and only lasted an inning-plus. Connor Baldassaro and Stephen Lambert also struggled. Zack Kelley continues his hitting streak and carried the team offensively.

The Cardinals, with only five hits, were able to score 11 runs. Mike Kerran had three hits in the game, two home runs and six RBIs. The Yankees were able to get people on base with 12 hits and five walks but Cardinals pitching had timely outs in each inning to get out of tuff spots.

Orioles 15, Red Sox 12

Tanner Plourde had his best game of the season going 1 for 3 with his first hit of the year. Kian Dunn showed what type of team player he is by playing center field for us and with an injured thumb. The Orioles’ bats and aggressive base running combined for a much needed win.

Rockies 8, Royals 6

The Royals started the game by scoring 4 runs in the 1st on RBI hits from Ryan Szczygielski, Stevie Signorello and Mike Fournier. The Rockies answered with two runs on hits from Nick Koch and Ben Seegel. With the Royals leading 5-2, the Rockies scored four runs in the third with five straight hits and RBIs from Koch (double), Alec Marshall and Matt Lawyer. Going into the sixth, the Rockies held an 8-5 lead. The Royals applied pressure by scoring one run and loading the bases. The Rockies’ Seegel was able to work out of the jam. Pitching for the Rockies were Collin Morrow, Carter Cormier and Seegel. Pitching for the Royals were Szczgielski and Owen Amigo.

Giants 12, A’s 11

In an exciting game that came down to the very last inning, the Giants hung on to defeat the A’s. The Giants displayed a well-balanced offense, with six different players collecting hits. Leading the ofense were Ryan Penkala (3 for 3, double), Brian Barrows (3 for 4), Charlie Deichmann (3 for 4), Owen Shea (2 for 3), Jason Fox (1 for 3), and Riley Bourque (1 for 4). Also contributing to the offense was Jacob Wilcox with an important RBI. On the mound, the Giants received solid outings from Fox, Mike Levasseur, and Penkala who combined for seven strikeouts.

The A’s had seven different players collect hits. The biggest came from Nathan Fallon, who hit his first career home run. Also hitting well were Brian Toupin (3 for 3), Tyler North (double), and Anthony Martin (double). The A’s received other offensive contributions from Chad Olivieri, Patrick McDonnell, and Mike Fuller. On the hill, McDonnell and Martin combined for eight strikeouts.

Orioles 10, Phillies 2

Christian Lowell paced the O’s with his bat and his speed (three hits), while Kyle Capone made a nice throw from the outfiled to nail a runner at the plate in the bottom of the sixth. Max Coffin played well for the Phillies.

Giants 14, Orioles 8

The Giants finished their regular season series with the Orioles as Ryan Penkala went 3 for 3, Charlie Deichmann 2 for 4, Brian Barrows 2 for 3, Owen Shea 2 for 4 and Tommy Lessard 2 for 2. Also collecting hits were Cam Kessel and C.J. Mellen (double). Mellen Mike Levasseur, and Penkala combined for five strikeouts. The Orioles were led by Christian Lowell (3 for 4, double), Nick Perkins (2 for 3), Keenan Dwyer (double), Kyle Capone (double), Trevor Hult, and Zack Torla. Dwyer and Cam Stockman combined for nine strikeouts.

A’s 14, Phillies 3

The A’s scored 14 runs on 14 hits to defeat the Phillies, closing out their regular season. Leading the A’s offense were Ryan North (2 for 4, two singles, RBI), Chad Olivieri (3 for 4, single, double, homer, four RBIs) and Mike Fuller (2 for 3, two singles, two RBIs). Also contributing with hits were Chaz Magras, Patrick McDonnell, Brian Toupin (two hits) Tyler North, and Anthony Martin (two hits). Handling the pitching for the Phillies were Zach Cunningham, Max Coffin, Jake Derusha and Steve D’Onfro. Derusha got the hit for the Phillies.

Royals 20, Giants 10

The Royals’ offense was led by Owen Amigo who was 3 for 4 with his third and fourth home runs, including a grand slam. For the Giants Charlie Deichmann had two hits, including a grand slam of his own. The Royals also received hits from Luke Ansel (2 for 2 with a double), Steve Signorell (3 for 5 with a double), Alex Amigo, Cam Novotny, Adam Robinson and Devon Gates (double). The Giants got hits from Brian Barrows (2 for 2), Ryan Penkala (3 for 4), and Owen Shea (2 for 4). Pitching for the Royals were Owen Amigo, Matt Savoia, Steve Signorello, Alex Amigo. Jason Fox, Mike Levasseur Deichmann, CJ Mellon, Barrows, and Ryan Penkala pitched for the Giants.

Rockies 12, Phillies 5

The Phillies jumped out early with five runs in the first inning. However, the Rockies managed to fight back and shut down the Phillies for the rest of the game. Cameron Paquette pitched four innings and had eight strikeouts and Matt Lawyer went two innings. The Phillies sent Jake Derusha, Zach Cunningham, and Max Coffin to the mound. The Rockies’ offensive received big days from Cam Paquette (2 for 3), Ben Seegel (2 for 3), Anthony Yan (2 for 3) and Alec Juknievich (2 for 3).

The Phillies received hits from Gage Donaghue, Derusha, and Steven D’Onfro.

AAA

Astros 16 / Blue Jays 1

The Astros jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first on hits by Andrew Penkala, Owen Mooso and Stefan Martin. Neysa Ouellette caught Martin trying to steal home on a passed ball and Ryan Vermette struck out one to end the inning. The Blue Jays got one back in the top of the second on a hit by J.J. Kammann. Owen Mooso made two nice plays behind the plate for the Astros. The Astros scored six runs in the bottom of the second with some heads up baserunning and hits by Erika Wentz, Derek Chiavelli, Chase Hart, Mooso and Nate Lowell.

Andrew Patno came on to pitch the top of the third and got three quick outs including a diving catch by Hart at second. The Astros scored four more runs in the bottom of the third on hits by Derek Chiavelli, Penkala and Martin.

Rockies 9, A’s 6

The Rockies put together a late inning rally to edge out the A’s. TJ Gillis pitched well for the Rockies, while Pranav Prabhala pitched well for the A’s. Mathew Caplan had a ground rule double for the A’s and also played solid defense. The Rockies’ Jake Fitzpatrick drove in two runs and Harper Niven closed out the game striking out five of the eight batters he faced.

A’s 11, Astros 10

The Astros scored first after Andrew Penkala walked and scored utilizing heads-up base running. Penkala was the only runner allowed in two innings by the A’s Anthony Ceci. The Astros received great defense from Erika Wentz, Eric Patricio, Nathan Lowell, Stephan Martin, and Penkala. The Astros also received big days at the plate from Chase Hart, Penkala, Alex Patno, and Wentz (double). The A’s offense was led by Kevin Morris, Matthew Caplan, Srimanth Kumar, Aaron Silva, Roe Hendrick and Ceci. Tyler Bernard shut down the Astros in the sixth, keeping the score tied at 10. The A’s Sri Kumar hit the first pitch of the sixth into left field for a single, stole second, and then scored on a hit to right by Aaron Silva for the walk-off victory.

Minors

Cardinals 10, Giants 5

The Cardinals showed great plate discipline in the top of the first with five runs scored on eight walks. The Cardinals answered on a hard hit single by Joshua Tramack with the bases loaded to score two runs. Andres Hulfachor and Michael Jolicoeur both drove in a run each and Chloe Goforth worked a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Rajit Khanna fanned six with no runs allowed. Nolan Foss had a solid hit with the bases loaded to score two runs. Michael Jolicoeur singled and Chloe Goforth worked a walk with the bases loaded to bring the score to 10.

Giants 7, Blue jays 6

Nathan Cormier pitched for Giants, struck out seven and gave up only two hits to Eric Patricio and Max Fadjo. The Giants’ bats got started early in the first inning with hits from Catherine Covert and a pair of doubles by Joe Buturla and Kyle O’Connor. C.J. Dawe came in for the Jays and pitched two solid innings recording six stirkeouts. Patricio came in for the third and fourth and proceeded to strike out the side in both innings. With the Giants up 5-1, the Blue Jays mounted their comeback on hits from Patricio, Dawe and Nick Gosselin, eventually scoring five runs to take the lead.

The Giants loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth when Jagadish Somasundaram drew a walk to bring in the tying score. Joe Buturla stepped in and hit a line drive to center. Mike Schaff bolted home to score the winning run.

Amherst tournament

Amherst Soccer Club’s 18th Annual Memorial Day tournament was a huge success. With 264 teams, 23 fields, over 3000 participants, 140 volunteers and over 525 soccer games played it was our largest tournament ever. ASC had 11 teams competing with our GU12 and BU14 teams making it to the finals. Special thanks to Nashua World Cup for all of their help.

The NH Classics girls U-11 Club team competed in the tourney. In regulation games the girls won 6-1 against Merrimack SC, tied Ocean State SC 1-1 and won 3-1 against Amherst SC. The girls were tops in their group.

The girls faced stiff competition from Guilford SC of Guilford, Conn, falling 1-0. They placed third over all in the field of 12 in the U-11 division.

Milford High School boys basketball coach Dan Murray is offering a Hoop Camp this summer for boys and girls ages 8-16 at Milford Middle School.Camps will be held for two weeks, from June 28-July 2 and from July 26-July 30.

The Nashua Baseball Academy is offering a summer baseball camp for area youth ages 8 to 14 at the Hollis Training Facility on 265A Proctor Hill Road. Three different weeks are offered: June 28-July 2, July 5-July 9 and July 19-23rd.

The Nashua PAL cross country running camp is set for August 16-20th and August 23-27 at the Nashua South High School Track. The camp cost is $20.00 per week.

This program is for children attending third, fourth and fifh grade in the fall of 2010.

Swimming

The Boys & Girls Club Of Greater Nashua Swim Team will open its summer program Monday at 6 p.m. Tryouts will be held Monday through Wednesday from 6-8:30 p.m. Swimmers in all age groups should be able to swim freestyle and backstroke distances appropriate to their ages.

NEGTC Prep-Op takes first

New England Gymnastics Training Center of Hudson Prep-Op Teams competed in the State Meet in Brentwood on May 16. The Prep-Op Novice took third and the Prep-Op Advance was first.

Kaelyn Gagnon of Hudson placed second with an All-Around score of 36.125. She received a 9.075 on vault, (fifth) 9.375 on bars (third), 9.075 beam (first) and 8.6 on floor.

Helen Smith of Hudson placed 16th with an All-Around score of 35.250. She received a 9.025 on vault, (12th) 9.175 on bars (10th), 8.6 on beam (13th) and 8.45 on floor (14th).

Jessica Wambsganss of Hudson placed 15th with an All-Around score of 33.975. She received a on 8.85 vault (fifth) 8.825 on bars (11th), 8.25 on beam (14th) and 8.05 on floor (13th).

Kaleigh Whitnell of Litchfield placed 19th with an All Around score of 31.925. She received a 8.175 on vault (16th), 7.65 on bars (17th), 7.7 on beam (17th) and 8.4 on floor (11th).

Emily Arcudi, Merrimack, placed 21st with an All Around score of 31.550. She received a 8.05 on Vault (20th) 8.5 on Bars (15th) 7.0 on Beam (19th) 8.0 on Floor (14th)
