Nashua U13 Cobras 5, Manchester 4

The U13 Nashua Cobras started off the season right with a 5-4 win over Manchester.

Ethan Harrington recorded the first goal of the season and the game-winner. The goalie play of Matthew Hatch and defensive support supplied by David Wang and Evan Lowe kept the game close.

Strikers Ryan Naber and Kenny Robinson pressed Manchester and provided scoring opportunities for their teammates. Srishail Thapa matched Harrington with two goals of his own and Ryan Guidaboni added the other goal for the Cobras.

Nashua U13 Cobras 4, Salem 1

The U13 Cobras improved their record to 2-0 with a win over Salem behind strong goalkeeping from Matthew Hatch.

Srishail Thapa started off the scoring with a direct kick after a Salem penalty.

Salem’s offensive attacked was contained by the defensive play of Abigail MacIntosh, Alexander DePenasse and Garrett Prince in the first half for the 1-0 lead.

Kennedy Dowling, Nick LaBate, Wesley Venderburgh and Sean Fenlon helped the Cobras control play in the second half and provide support for Ryan Guidaboni to add two goals in the second half.

Salem cut the lead to 2-1 before Ethan Harrington scored on a nice pass from Guidaboni and the Cobras held on for the 4-1 win.

LACROSSE

Windham 13, Nashua U11 Blast 9

The U11 Blast traveled to Windham to play a makeup game and returned home with a 13-9 loss to a good Windham team. Attack and midfield was led by Jared Zeichick, Zac Wilson, Aiden McAndrews, Luc Blondeau, Christian Lacy, Simon Morrier, Matt Lambalot and Anthony Costa. The defense was led by Max Ozgood, Jacob Holmes and Mason Miller. James Petz and Nick Page played in net with a total of 12 saves.

Nashua U11 Blast 10, Laconia U11 4

The midfield and attack led by Andrew Brown, Shane Puleo, Jacoby Wesson, Nick Page and Cyrus Forcier got the Blast out to an early lead and Nashua didn’t let up in a 10-4 win over Laconia at Stellos Stadium.

The defense, led by Mason Miller, James Heightmiller, Brandon Lacy, Max Osgood and Jacob Holmes all played an out standing game. In goal for the Blast was James Petz with seven saves and Nick Page with four saves.

Nashua U11 Blast 15, Hampstead 6

The Nashua Blast U11 team traveled to Hampstead for a 15-6 win. After the first half, the Blast found themselves in a comfortable lead with Ryan Fitzgerald in goal, shutting out Hampstead.

Getting on the scoresheet for the Blast were Alex Moody (four goals), Todd Redman (three goals, two assists), Alex Bozek (one goal), Joey Paige (one goal, one assist), Kyle Fisher (one goal, one assist), Owen Mooso (one assist), Zach Clancy (one goal), Brendan Martin (one goal), Nathan Newton (one assist), Tyler Dubien (one goal, one assist) and Will Haller (one goal).

Amherst U13A 8, Nashua U13A Blast 7

The Nashua Blast U13A team lost a tough defensive battle to Amherst. Scoring for Nashua was Tom Haller with three goals, Steve Saucier with two goals and Jake Redman and Sean Holmes with one goal each. Goalie Ryan Fitzgerld worked hard to keep the ball out of the goal and came away with 10 saves.

Nashua U11 (girls) Blast 12, Cocheco U11 4

The Nashua Blast girls U11 team picked up a 12-4 win over Cocheco. Olivia Koutsos and Jenna Tingley scored three goals each, Danielle Upton had two and Hannah Fortin, Arrianna Mohler, Lindsay Holmes and Gabrielle Masseur all added one. Julia Gagnon and Emma Pucillo each had an assist, and goalies Izabella Bolduc and Abigail Rowe were crucial to the defense with a strong game in net.

Cocheco U13 13, Nashua U13 (girls) Blast 8

Despite strong offense by Ella Caron, Sarah Heitmiller and Erin Kelley, the Nashua Blast U13 girls lost to Cocheco 13-8. Sarah Drake, Jexi Williams and Jenna Tingley all had two goals each and Amanda Barton and Madison Coughlin each added one. Hannah Shuman, Allison Kraus and Delia Blondeau also played well, while goalies Sierra Mullin and Abby Collins had several saves in net.

Cocheco U15 11, Nashua U15 (girls) Blast 9

Fighting until the end, the U15 girls fell short to Cocheco 11-9. Naomi Aguilar, Riley Bates, Catherine Connolly and Caitlin Russell all played a key role on defense. Leading the Blast was Kara Upton with five goals, Molly Mulcahly with three and Victoria Kane with a goal and assist. Maddison Ledoux, Mia Cullerot and Hailey Boulia also had a great game, and goalies Victoria Shattuck and Caroline Mckenzie worked hard to keep the ball out of the net.

SOFTBALL

Hollis U12 Riptide (minors) 14, Amherst Ravens 6

The Hollis Riptide started the season with a 14-6 win over the Amherst Ravens. Emilie Tousignant and Avery Webb pitched well the first two innings with two strikeouts each. Jessica Sargent finished pitching the game with three strikeouts in the last inning. Webb also contributed with a single offensively.

Hollis U12 (minors) Riptide 9, Amherst Eagles 5

The Hollis Riptide won their second game of the season, 9-5, over the Amherst Eagles. Emilie Tousignant, Jessica Sargent, Avery Webb and Taylor Hamel all pitched well – throwing two strikeouts each. The Riptide was hitting well with Isabel Keefe, Tousignant and Julia Lafontaine each collecting a single, while Joanna Balsamo, Webb and Samantha Mello each collected two. Hamel caught a line drive and turned a double play with Sargent. Tousignant made a great play at shortstop and Balsamo ended the game catching a line drive to first.

Hollis U12 (majors) Pride 13, Amherst Hawks 12

Taryn Collins pitched four strong innings and Erin Stowell closed the game with a 1-2-3 top of the fifth to preserve the win for Hollis.

Strong offense by Amanda McDonough with a triple, single two runs scored and three RBIs and Collins with two singles and two RBIs.

Hollis U12 (majors) Pride 17, Brookline Wahoos 9

Taryn Collins and Erin Stowell had strong pitching efforts. The offense was led by Tori Sargent with two doubles, five RBIs and four stolen bases, including a steal of home.

Kathryn Bobek had a double and three RBIs and Kristen DuPont had a single, three stolen bases and three runs scored. The defense was led by Cat Morgan and JoAnn Snyder with strong performances behind the plate and Amanda McDonough and Kristen DuPont made spectacular fielding plays at second and shortstop, respectively.

STREET HOCKEY

Connolly scores hat trick in Fairgrounds loss to NC-Penn.

In Nashua PAL middle school action at the Boys and Girls Club outdoor street hockey rink, Fairgrounds Middle School’s Bryan Connolly scored a hat trick in a lopsided 14-3 loss to a combined Nashua Catholic-Pennichuck squad coached by Patrolmen Joe Brown and Karen Becotte. Goalie Brandon Rand had 13 saves for Fairgrounds, coached by NPD Detective Rob Powers and Patrolman Steve Seero. Gary Storace of Nashua Catholic continued his stellar goalkeeping performance, while Pennichuck’s Kevin Melanson contributed tough defensive play. Offered on Friday afternoons in April and May by the Nashua Police Athletic League in conjunction with the BGCGN, teams have formed and continue to form at each of Nashua’s middle schools.

FOOTBALL

Nashua PAL participants receive academic awards

The New Hampshire Youth Football and Spirit Conference, part of American Youth Football and Cheer, recently recognized 35 Nashua Police Athletic League Force football players and cheerleaders at its fifth annual Academic Achievement Award Ceremony in Manchester.

NHCYFC recognized 447 children statewide at the Gold, Silver and Bronze levels of achievement. The participants also demonstrated outstanding involvement in community service, volunteerism or clubs and organizations. Each recipient received a certificate acknowledging his or her success in the classroom.

Recognized at the Gold level for a grade point average of 96 or better were Shane Winnett, Kylee Winnett and Cole Nickerson.

Silver honorees, who earned grade point averages of 93 or better, were David Erickson, Jack Fahey, Alyssa Burns, Hailey Reed, Holly Reed, Jamie Lavoie, Pudt Singhsri, Connor Mullaly, Gregory Stanton, Megan Reilly, Erica White, Sarah Smythe, Timothy Preston and Evan Manns.

Earning Bronze level recognition for grade point averages of 90 or better were David Muite, Peter Maccini, Alley Fortin, Alicia Parker, Jeffrey Mitchell, Holly Burns, Kyle Rancourt, Austin Rancourt, Michael Rogers, Matthew Esquivel, Troy Lustick, Austin Rezendes, Spencer Petz, Amanda Shaughnessy, Marcel Laplante, Jake Noury and Christopher McGuinness.
