Girls: Nashua Blast U15 opens season with a win

Molly Mulcahy, Victoria Kane, Amanda Barton and Kara Upton had two goals each and Sarah Drake added one for a 9-5 win. Riley Bates and Naomi Aguilar played well on defense, while Madison Ledoux and Amelia Cullerot came up with several ground balls on offense. Goalie Victoria Shattuck had a great game in net.

Girls: Windham U11 9, Nashua Blast U11 4

The Nashua Blast U11 girls lacrosse team fell to Windham, 9-4, in the first game of the season.

Leading the Blast was Jenna Tingley with three goals and Olivia Koutsos with one. The defense was led by Ashley Jolicoeur, Alyssa DeCarteret, Danielle Upton and Madison Owen, while Corita Chartier, Gabrielle Masseur and Arrianna Moler never gave up on offense. Goalies Zoe Fillebrown and Lindsay Holmes had several saves in net.

Boys: Nashua Blast U13C 8, Windham U13C 7

The Nashua Blast U13C boys won their season opener at Stellos Stadium against a strong Windham squad. Max Serra led the Blast offense, netting three goals and an assist while Riley Morse tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner late in the fourth quarter. Cam Rourke, Jacob Farrar and Keean Kharazi also scored for Nashua.

Caden Daigle, Colin Malone and Farrar all contributed to the team’s momentum with a strong defensive effort. Dakota Lane and Collin Leary had strong showings in goal with three saves each.

Boys: Nashua Blast U13A 13, Timberlane U13 5

The Nashua Blast boys U13A team won their season opener 13-5 over Timberlane. Leading the way was Tom Haller with three goals, while Jake Redman, Sean Holmes, Ryan Guidaboni and Bryan Connolly each added two goals. Casey Fisher and Tyler Searles had a goal each. The entire Blast team played inspired defense all game. Goalie Ryan Fitzgerald worked hard to keep the ball out of the goal and came away with nine saves.

Fairgrounds tops Nashua Catholic in Nashua PAL season opener

In Nashua PAL Street Hockey action, Fairgrounds Middle School defeated Nashua Catholic Jr. High at the outdoor street hockey rink at the Nashua Boys and Girls Club. Nashua Catholic jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Fairgrounds Falcons’ relentless attack was just enough to outlast the Wildcats’ effort, and Fairgrounds prevailed 7-6.

WRESTLING

BGCGN wraps things up with annual awards party

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua (BGCGN) wrestling team wrapped up its season with its annual team break-up party and awards ceremony. After an afternoon of swimming in the BGCGN pool, playing in the gym and games room and eating pizza and cake, the following awards were presented:

Kindergarten-third grade – Outstanding Wrestler Owen Duda; Most Improved Wrestler Zach Rioux; Sportsmanship Award Isaiah Johnson; and Rookie of the Year Garrett Hillard.

Fourth-sixth grade – Outstanding Wrestler Jordan Rowlette; Most Improved Wrestler Colin O’Connor; Sportsmanship Award Aren Kennedy; and Rookie of the Year Nick McPherson.

Iron Man awards, for consistent participation in practices, scrimmages and competing in tournaments went to Nate Zalzal, Nik Hellwig, Brody Mills, Keegan Mills, Ryan Jigargian and Patrick Melanson.

ICE HOCKEY

Nashua Panthers Squirt II team wins Valley League Championship

The Nashua Panthers Squirt II team defeated the Portland (Maine) Pirates 5-3 to capture the Valley League Silver-North National Division. Patrick McGrath scored two goals, Cam Sheedy and Michael Talbot each scored one, and Joey Amaral buried an empty-netter from center ice to seal the game.

Goaltender Matt Guman held off Portland’s attack, facing 16 shots in the game. Elise Yabroudy had two assists and Dylan Terenzoni had one for the Panthers. The win snapped Portland’s 14-game winning streak (going back to Jan. 23). They had gone 20-1 dating back to Nov. 23.

In the semifinals, Nashua rallied for 2-1 win over Newburyport (Mass.). Panthers goalie Matt Dowdy shut the door, stopping 15 of 16 shots. Talbot and Sheedy scored third-period goals on assists from Terenzoni and Kyle Joyce. Defensemen Talbot, Amaral, Jacob Holmes and Bryce Newsham helped Dowdy limit Newburyport to a single first-period goal, as did strong two-way games by Jarred Natola and Connor Joyce.

In the quarterfinals, the Panthers beat Waltham (Mass.) 4-3 in a shootout. Leading the way for the Panthers were Sheedy, who scored two goals in regulation and had a key shootout goal, and McGrath, who had a goal and an assist. Guman stopped four out of five shootout attempts from Waltham. Yabroudy added an assist for the Panthers.

NSG Levels 4-8 compete at state meet

The Nashua School of Gymnastics’ Levels 4-8 teams competed at the State Meet in Stratham.

Individual Results

Level 4 (Age 8)

Emily Colburn had an all around score of 36.45 (8th). She scored a 9.025 on vault, 9.10 on bars (13th), 9.05 on beam (3rd) and a 9.275 on floor (5th).

Mariah Fadjo had an all around score of 35.975 (14th). She scored an 8.925 on vault, 9.15 on bars (11th), 8.80 on beam (8th) and a 9.10 on floor (10th).

Level 5 (Age 7/8)

Devon Rosier had an all around score of 35.10; She scored 8.90 (5th) on vault, 8.55 on bars, 8.55 on beam and 9.10 (5th) on floor.

Jenna Hantula had an all around score of 34.575; She scored 8.30 on vault, 8.30 on bars, 9.10 (2nd) on beam and 8.875 on floor.

Level 6 (ages 9/10)

Aditi Sirsikar had an All Around score of 34.775 (7th); she scored an 8.625 on vault, 8.75 (4th) on bars, 8.4 (8th T) on beam and 9.0

Blake Boulia had an All Around score of 32.2; she scored an 8.5 on vault, 7.45 on bars, 8.2 on beam and 8.05 on floor.

Level 6 (age 11)

Kayla Townsend had an All Around score of 33.975 ; she scored an 8.55 on vault, 8.6 (6th) on bars, 8.5 on beam and 8.325 on floor.

Ariel Flaisher had an All Around score of 33.2; she scored an 8.95 on vault (7th), 8.35 on bars, 7.5 on beam and 8.4 on floor.

Skyler Goss qualified for Regional All Star Team with an All Around of 34.85; she scored an 8.40 on vault, 8.975 (2nd) on bars, 8.475 on beam and 9.00 on floor.

Alanna Murphy qualified for Regional All Star Team with an All Around of 34.05; she scored an 8.20 on vault, 7.90 on bars, 9.00 (4th) on beam and 8.95 on floor.

Level 8 (Ages 13/14)

Megan Middlemiss qualified for Regional Team with an All Around of 34.90 (6th); she scored an 8.45 on vault, 9.125 (1st) on bars, 8.40 on beam and 8.925 (5th) on floor.

Taylor Christiansen had an All Around of 33.575; she scored an 8.65 (7th) on vault, 8.075 on bars, 8.15 on beam and 8.70 (8th) on floor.

NSG competes at Spring Fling

The Nashua School of Gymnastics’ Prep-Optional team traveled to Granite State Gymnatics in Bow for the Spring Fling Meet. Many of the NSG gymnasts from the Novice, Intermediate and Advance divisions placed in individual events and in the All-Around. Their combined efforts earned NSG first place.
