BGCGN wraps up season at New England Invitational
The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua wrestling team closed its season with the biggest tournament of the year, the highly competitive Marshwood New England Invitational in Portland, Maine.
Over 1,300 youth wrestlers from all six New England states competed on 17 mats spread out over the floor of the Cumberland County Civic Center.
In the Midget Division (third-fourth grade), Ryan Jigargian was the champion at 53 pounds. In the Bantam Division (kindergarten-second grade), Keegan Mills earned the top prize at 73 pounds, while Patrick Melanson and Brody Mills were runners-up at 45 and 56, respectively. Nate Zalzal also competed in the Bantam Division.
In the Novice Division (fifth-sixth grade), Ryan Rice went undefeated and won the championship in the 78-pound class. Jordan Rowlette earned the fourth-place copper medal at 75 pounds, edging out teammate Cole Nickerson in the same bracket.
In the Schoolboy Division (seventh-eighth grade), Marcel Laplante was runner-up at 96 pounds, losing 5-2 in the final. Connor McBride and Cam Bennett each earned third-place, bronze medals, at 124 and 77, respectively. Brandon Levesque of Hudson was fourth at 114.

Grizzlies sweep Marauders in Opening Day doubleheader
The New Hampshire Grizzlies U14 team swept the New Hampshire Marauders in the season-opening doubleheader, taking the opener 14-7 and nightcap 8-1.
A good pitching performance by starter Vinny Bucci and home runs by Ty Mezquita and Kody Carlson led to the Game 1 win.
Garrett Jewell pitched a complete-game one-hitter for the Game 2 win, while Chris Gamble, Sam Kasten and Paul Karamourtopoulos all had great days at the plate.
