BASEBALL

NASHUA PARKS-REC.: The Nashua Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting player registration forms for the upcoming Babe Ruth Baseball season. Registration forms are available at the following locations: Main Offices of all Nashua public and private schools, Jeannotte’s Market, Bright Spot Convenience Store, Nashua Public Library and City Clerks Office at City Hall. Forms are available now at the Recreation Office at Greeley Park or online at www.gonashua.com.

All players age 13 must sign up and tryout to play on a Babe Ruth Team. Your league age is your age as of May 1, 2010. Those players not making a Babe Ruth Team will be placed on a Ray Oban Team. All Ray Oban players last year must re-register and tryout for Babe Ruth again this year. Deadline for registering is April 9. Registrations received after that will be accepted but the players will be put on a Ray Oban Team and cannot attend tryouts. Any new players to Nashua age 14 and 15 need to register and tryout at the dates listed below. Players registering after April 9 will not be allowed to tryout and will be placed on a Ray Oban Team.

Tryout dates are as follows: 13-year-olds last name A-J on April 12 (6:30 p.m.) at Ledge Street; 13 last name K-Z on April 13 (6:30) at Ledge Street; 14-year-olds on April 14 (6:30) at Ledge Street; and 15-year-olds and make-ups for all ages on April 15 (6:30) at Ledge Street.

WEST CAL RIPKEN: Nashua West Cal Ripken Baseball will be taking registrations on today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Nashua West Clubhouse (above the concession stand), located at the corner of Grand Avenue and North Seventh Street (Next to the Ledge Street School). We offer four divisions of baseball. T-Ball, Rookies, AAA and Majors, for ages 41?2-12 years of age. Fee is $45 for single child and $60 Maximum for each family. This year Nashua West will be hosting the 12 Year Old New England Regional All Star Tournament. Tryouts/Skills Assessments will be March 27 in the Ledge Street School gymnasium from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Registrations will be accepted at this time, but advanced registration is encouraged. NORTHWEST CAL RIPKEN: Nashua Northwest Cal Ripken Baseball is now accepting online registrations for new and returning players for the 2010 spring season. You can go to www.nashuanw.org for more information.

NORTH CAL RIPKEN: Registration for new and returning players is now open to all children ages 5-12 (as of 4/30/10) living in the 03064 zip code. To download a form visit http://nashuanorth.baberuthonline.com. Forms will also be distributed to all students at Charlotte Ave., Mount Pleasant, and St. Christopher Schools. You can also obtain a form at Jeannotte’s Market. Skills assessment for ages 9-12 who did not play on a major league team last spring will take place at the Amherst Street School gym on March 27 from 8 a.m.-noon. See the Web site for times by age group. The 6th annual Equipment Swap will take place at that same time and location. Drop off used equipment starting at 8 a.m.

GRANITE STATE GATORS: The AAU U13 Granite State Gator Baseball team is looking for two or three more players. There are on-going weekly practices and indoor games being played in the Hampshire Dome in preparation for the Spring AAU season. Rookie League (ages 7-9) – register/no tryouts as players are assigned to a team; Junior League (ages 9-12) – 9-year-olds can register and tryout for the Junior League with those not making a Junior team assigned to a Rookie team. Please note the Junior National Division will merge with the Junior American Division to form one Junior League. All returning National and American Division players do not need to register or tryout, they return to their old Junior Teams. Only new players need to register and tryout.

Senior League (ages 13-16) will have all 13-year-olds and new players needing to register and tryout. All returning players stay with their old team.

Tryout dates are as follows: 9-year-olds on April 13 (6 p.m.) at Roby Park; 10-year-olds on April 13 (7 p.m.) at Roby Park; 11-year-olds on April 15 (6 p.m.) at Roby Park; 12-year-olds on April 15 (7 p.m.) at Roby Park; a rain/makeup day for ages 9-12 is April 16 (6 p.m.) at Roby Park; 13-16-year-olds on April 20 (6 p.m.) at Roby Park; and a rain/makeup for 13-16-year-olds on April 22 (6 p.m.) at Roby Park.

AMHERST SOCCER CLUB: ASC, open to players from any town, is now taking registrations for boys and girls ages U3-U10 for the spring Tots and Early Development Program (EDP). NASHUA ELKS CRUSADERS: Registration for participants in the Nashua Elks Crusaders youth football and cheerleading programs are set for April 7 (for returning participants) from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Club, 34 High St., in Nashua, and April 14 (for new participants) from 6-8:30 p.m. at Elm Street Middle School in Nashua.

Spirit competitors are for children ages 7-15 (as of July 31). Football players must be ages 7-14 (as of Dec. 31 of this year). H/B JUNIOR CAVALIERS: The Hollis/Brookline Junior Cavaliers are holding registration dates on April 7 (6:30 p.m. in high school cafe) and April 14 (8:30 a.m. in high school lobby). MERRIMACK CARDINALS: The Merrimack Cardinals football and spirit Information night is scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 24 at the MYA building. Football and spirit registration begins on March 26 from 6-8 p.m. and on March 27 from 9 a.m.-noon at the MYA building. You must pre-register online at www.merrimackcardinals.org. Each player/cheerleader must also attend one of the registration sessions and provide copy of birth certificate and Pop Warner 2010 Physical Fitness and Medical history form, front and back. Physical must have taken place on or after 1/01/09. Registrations are on a first come first serve basis.

GRANITE STATE RAIDERS: Tryouts for the Granite State Raiders girls basketball teams will be held on Saturday, March 13 at the Concord Boys & Girls Club. Times of tryouts are as follows: Girls sixth grade and under from 8:30-10 a.m.; girls seventh and eighth grade from 10-11 a.m.; girls 9-11 grade: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. There is a $30 registration fee, due at time of tryout. MERRIMACK QB CLUB: The Merrimack High School Quarterback Club will be sponsoring a youth football clinic this summer for ages 7-12. Conducted under the guidance and support of head coach Joe Battista and his staff, this clinic promises a great opportunity for all who participate to improve on the fundamental skills of the game and help increase the level of play. This week-long clinic will run Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16, from 8 a.m.-noon. Cost is $100 per player. UMPIRES: The Nashua Parks & Recreation Department is seeking applicants for the following areas: Softball umpires for all age divisions and Ray Oban League (ages 13-15) baseball umpires. These paid positions require a thorough understanding of the rules of the game and a willingness to participate in an instructional clinic for training. Pay is determined by experience and all applicants should be at least 18 years of age. OVER 60 SOFTBALL: The Nashua Senior Softball League is looking for men aged 60-plus to play slow pitch softball. All skill levels accepted. Practice begins in early May.The season commences in early June and continues until mid-September. All skill levels accepted, and players from all areas are welcome.
