Lakers squeak out championship 

It wasn’t easy, but the Lakers successfully defended their Boys Junior Biddy title.

Rallying from six points down with just two minutes left in regulation, the Lakers forced overtime and then held off a pesky Patriots squad for a 37-35 victory to finish undefeated on the season. Sclyler Boykin and Xahn Frater led the Lakers in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Jeff Reza contributed his six points and the surprise for the night was Xarrack Frater in the third quarter adding four points to the board for the first time ever.

Srimanth Kumar, Sinjin Doeurk, Youssef Atef, Michael Patierno, Caleb Plourde, Owen Long, Peyton Adams, CJ Lavoie and Bryan Jimenez all contributed defensively to secure this win.

The determined Patriots played a great game and were led offensively by John Champa with 12 points and Spencer Healey with eight points.

BOYS BIDDY

Sonics 34, Cougars 30

The Sonics rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to edge past the Cougars and advance to the division final. Jeremy Ouellette sparked the comeback with nine points, while Christian Brenner added seven on key offensive rebounds. Tyler Vartabedian and Christian Sullivan led the Sonics defensively. Dan Soler and Robert Mondi each had six points to pace the Cougars.

Gulls 43, Royals 42

Kyle Reardon led all scorers with 13 points and scored the winning basket with four seconds left to lead the Gulls over the Royals. Brian Provencher scored 12 and Scott Costa added nine to pace the Gulls with Zavier Rumardo and Kevin Genoa each dropping in 11 and Adam Buskey scoring 10 for the Royals. Max Leatherman and Noah Toland played stifling defense for the Gulls, while Maleek Langer and Alex Parrott played tough defense for the Royals.

Cougars 42, Braves 40

Peter Norcross led all scores with 14 points and scored the winning points, while Dan Soler added 13, followed by the Braves’ Michael Taylor with 12. Outstanding defense was demonstrated by Jeremiah Pena, George Blais, Gage McKone, Will Popik and Tylor Chase.

Pistons 51, Bullets 39

The Pistons beat a tough Bullets team in second-round playoff action. The Bullets were led by the 18-point effort of Alex Boudreau. A strong showing by their second unit kept the game close in the first half. The Pistons received strong performances from Mike Osgood (14 points), Josh Goulet (12), Max Osgood (10) and Leo Cantoral (six).

Royals 48, Saints 23

Adam Buskey scored 18 points, while Zavier Rumardo and Kevin Genoa both had 10. Maleek Langa and Noah Collins both had four points and Alex Parrot added two.

The Saints were led by Chris Fischer and Dylan Gamache, who both shared six points. Tyler Joles, Devon Lambert, Josh Dion, Sean and Chris Dezurick all chipped in two points, while Sami Desai gave them one point.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Pine Hill wins Emerald Valley title

Capping off a strong 11-2 season, the Pine Hill Waldorf School of Wilton’s seventh and eighth grade girls won the Emerald Valley Basketball League championship.

Members of the championship team are Rebecca Mirhashem, Elise Drapeau, Lily Hobbs, Alexandra Adinolfi, Samantha Maxwell, Naylani Halpern-Wight, Linnea McGinness, Sorrell Nielsen, Meghan McClure, as well as coaches Gary Nielsen and Kate McClure.

Seven win Hudson K of C awards

The Hudson Knights of Columbus presented trophies to the winners of their Free Throw Competition on March 3. These winners are now eligible for the State K of C contest.

The group of Hudson winners heading to the state tournament are Izhar Mbarani, Aaron Mbarani, Chad Collins, Teddi Starr Kramer, Kayla Torres and Amanda Torres.
