Spurs top Celtics for Biddy title

Post 32-18 Win Over Celtics for City Championship

The Spurs won the Girls Biddy League championship Tuesday night with a

32-18 victory over the Celtics at Elm Street Middle School’s Chestnut Street gym.

The Spurs drew a first round bye in the playoffs, followed by a victories over the Bulls and Rockets in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

In the championship game, Taylor Choate led all scorers with 14 points, followed by point guard Marie Laplante with 10, and shooting guard Kennedy Rebello and power forward Debbie Decareau with two each.

Forward Jillian Rabasco was tough on the boards. Kayla Morrill provided an offensive spark off the bench (four points), and got rebounding help from Chanaya Allard and tough defense from Brianna Rittenberg. Nina Guidaboni, Hannah Rondeau, Diante Ledoux, Mounika Talluri and Haarika Talluri provided excellent hustle to round out the Spurs roster.

Warriors defend Junior Biddy crown

The Warriors defended their Girls Junior Biddy title with a 31-22 victory over the Jets at Sunset Heights.

The Warriors were led by Marisa Gaudette with 12 points and 12 steals. Alana Choate and Makena Leazer added six points each. Abbie King, Mishka Legatova, Mikheala Choate and Kaelyn Heffernan played outstanding defense for the Warriors.

The Jets were led by Heather Bridge (12 points), Shardeigh Spearman, Bianca Perez, Zoe Fillebrown and Stephanie Canto.

Shimmerz grab Senior Biddy title

The Shimmerz shared the wealth spreading the scoring between 12 players to finish off a perfect season with a 60-29 win over the Mystics in the championship game.

Sesha Kadakia scored 11 while Carly Hatch added nine to lead all scorers. Christine LaRocque, Kristie Cox and Sara Price chipped in with baskets from 3-point range.

Emily Kendall, Lara Lorentz and Amanda Buckley hit 3-pointers for the Mystics, while Katherine McInerney scored six points.

Rounding out the Shimmerz roster are Emerald Hardiman, Megan Kelleher, Louise Van den Heuval, CJ Hovey, Sama Kadakia, Tory Shattuck, Christina Anderson and Courtney Joyal.

To reach the final, the Shimmerz squeezed out a tough win over the Celtics. Kadakia scored 18 and Hatch 15 to lead the Shimmerz. LaRocque chipped in with nine while Anderson controlled the boards.

The Celtics’ Shannon Gilhooly led all scorers with 20 and was 10 of 14 from the free throw line. Michela Nault and Brianna Dumont both scored 12 to pace the Celtics. The Celtics led 26-21 at the half, but the Shimmerz scored 28 points in the third quarter to swing the game in their favor. The Celtics closed to three in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer.

BOYS

Junior Biddy

Nuggets 24, Sonics 21

The Nuggets pulled off a close, 24-21, win over the Sonics. The game was close to the end, with great defense on both ends.

The Nuggets were led by Gavin Forcier and Clay Medling with eight points each, while Brendon Auriana chipped in with four. Austin Master came up with some key defensive plays for the winners.

The Sonics were led by Noah Gonzalez and William Rommell with 10 and seven points, respectively.

Knicks 29, Saints 13

Tyler Bernard led the Knicks with a game-high 13 points, while Tim Rose and Razz Alkalay both chipped in with four each. The Saints were led by C.J. Barrett, who scored four markers in defeat.

Stars 19, Mustangs 17

The Stars were able to squeak by the Mustangs, 19-17, in the second round of the playoffs.

The Stars were led by Tyler Arnesen (five points), Matt Wall (five), Chase Nickerson (four), Nathan Kumar (two), Andrew Moody (two) and Justin Arnesen (one).

The Mustangs had balanced scoring from Vishvak Vadivel (six), Jay Patel (three), Braedon Smith (two), Jason Widfeldt (two), Andrew Penkala (two) and Dallas Kastens (two).

Bantam

Jets 78, Knicks 50

The Jets lead 18-11 after one period, and played great defense in the second and third periods, holding the Knicks to just 10 points while the Jets scored 49 for the win.

The Knicks made a comeback in the fourth period, outscoring the Jets 29-11 but it was too late.

For the Jets, Sam Horne led all scorers with 21 points. Matt Lipkind added 10 points, plus played great defense along with Kevin Shea, who was a rebounding machine.

Kevin Morrissey had 15 points to lead the Knicks.

Jets 55, Braves 51

Led by Kevin Shea’s defense and rebounding, and the offensive night’s of Parker Jamerson (17 points) and Sam Horne (16), the Jets beat the previously unbeaten Braves 55-51.

C.J. Boykin led all scorers with 22 points (three 3-pointers) for the Braves, while also recording a few steals and causing turnovers with solid defense. Armond McRae also had a good night, chipping in with 17 points in the loss.
