NSG competes

The Nashua School of Gymnastics’ Level 7 & 8’s participated in the Little Bigger Invitational at Gym and More in Woburn, Mass., on Feb. 20. The Level 8s took fourth place as a team.

Individual results as follows:

Level 7 (Intermediate Division)

Abby Guilfoil had an all-around score of 32.525, a 9.125 on vault (first), a 6.60 on bars, an 8.2 on beam, and an 8.60 on floor.

Level 8 (Child Division)

Alanna Murphy had an all-around score of 34.675, she had an 8.05 on vault, an 8.50 on bars (fifth), a 9.15 on beam (second) and an 8.975 on floor (fifth).

Skyler Goss had an all-around score of 33.40, she had an 8.375 on vault, a 7.85 on bars, an 8.40 on beam and an 8.775 on floor.

Level 8 (Junior Division)

Megan Middlemiss had an all-around score of 33.925 (second place) she had an 8.15 on vault, a 7.95 on bars, an 8.90 on beam (first) and an 8.925 on floor (second).

Level 7 gymnast Deanna Poirier participated in the Sectional held at Tri-Star Gymnastics on Feb. 21 and had an all-around of 32.45 with a 9.25 (first) on vault, 7.75 on bars, 6.80 on beam and 8.85 (second) on floor.

Football

Nashua Elks Crusaders registration

Registration for participants in the Nashua Elks Crusaders youth football and cheerleading prorgams are set for April 7 (for returning participants) and April 14 (for new participants). Both registrations will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Club, 34 High St., in Nashua.

Spirit competitors are for children ages 7-15 (as of July 31). Football players must be ages 7-14 (as of Dec. 31 of this year). Merrimack Cardinals seek coaches

The Merrimack Cardinals football And spirit program seeks head coaches for the Fall season. Hockey

Panthers undefeated for month

The Nashua Panther Bantam II youth hockey team remained undefeated in February with a 3-0 victory over the Back Bay Indians and a 3-3 tie with the Methuen (Mass.) Rangers.

On Feb. 19 the Panthers won their final Granite State League regular-season game over Back Bay. Ben Hadley, Brett Estrella and Alkim Dato each scored for Nashua with Stevie Barton, Ben Woodward, Jake Fagan and John Butler assisting. Brad Lyman, Declan Stone, Vinny Silvestri and Fagan were solid on defense, helping goalie AJ Bender earn his eighth shutout of the season.

Nashua will enter the Tier IV Bantam State Tournament as the No. 1 seed with a 21-1 record.

On Feb. 20 the short-handed Panthers skated to a 3-3 tie with Methuen in Valley League action. After falling behind 2-0, Barton cut the deficit with a blast from the face-off dot, assisted by Estrella and Woodward. After the Rangers regained their two-goal advantage, the Panthers battled back to tie the game. Silvestri got the Panthers within a goal when he picked up the rebound of a Tim Trudel shot and slid a backhander into the net. Nashua tied the game in the final two minutes when Woodward made a nifty move and finished off a short-handed break away.

Nashua Squirt Majors

Nashua Squirt Majors finish regular GSL season with a tie and a loss in NEHL action.

The Nashua Squirt Majors finished their Granite State season with a 1-1 tie against the Concord Capitals on Feb. 20. Goalie Curtis Wirbal was very strong throughout the game, while the offense manages one goal scored by Jeff Gerhard, assisted by Brendan Martin and Joey Paige. This tie clinched third place for the Majors heading into the playoffs. Later that day, with Majors faced the Monarchs and just could not get anything going in a 7-0 loss.

In game three of the weekend, the Majors topped the Seacoast Spartans AA, 9-3. The Majors had seven different goal scorers. Joey Paige earned the hat trick and had an assist. Brendan Martinhad a goal and two assists, Nathan Newton, Quinn Tucker and Jeff Gerhard each had a goal and an assist, while Owen Hastings and Ryan Fitzgerald also scored. Other assists were credited to Eric Langley (two) and Michael Zogin.

Yegor Bublik had one of his best games between the pipes.

Flames win

The Sports Arena 1996 AAA Manchester Flames enkoyed a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over the Connecticut Lazers. Both teams scored three in the opening period. Flame goals came from Noah Duplessis, Mike Donlan and Connor Powell with assists went to Parker Anderson, Tim Tetrault and Josh Roy.

The Lazers took the lead in the second period, 6-5. Donlan added his second goal off a nice setup by Duplessis and Tetrault. Powell also scored his second of the game with assists going to Andrew Putney and Roy.

The Lazers scored early in the third to take a two-goal lead before the Flames roared back. Donlan scored his third of the game off a Tetrault setup. Roy scored off a Powell pass to even the sc ore at 7-7 late in the third. The game-winning goal was scored by Putney off a Roy pass.

Ian Beliveau and Mitchell Schirch shared goaltending duties for the Flames.

Girls Junior Biddy

Warriors to face Jets

A 43-23 quarterfinal-round win over the Braves and a 35-17 decision over the Lakers carried the Warriors into the city championship game Tuesday night at 6:15 against the undefeated Jets at Sunset Heights Elementary School. Abby Coy, Hannah Fortin and Lindsay Murch led the Braves.

Abbie King led the Warriors over the Braves with 12 points while Alana Choate and Makena Leazer had eight points apiece. Kaelyn Heffernan, MIshka Legatova and Saphira Brooks all played outstanding defense. Mikhela Choate scored 10 points in the win over the Lakers. with Marissa Gaudette adding eight. Kendall Bush, Marlee Kastens, Victoria Gates, Grace Wilson and Haley Lawrence led the defensive effort. Ariana Motivala, Emma Branquinho and Danielle Upton led the Lakers.
