St. Chris girls Mites are State runners-up

The St. Christopher’s School Mite (fifth-sixth Grade) girls basketball team finished second in the Catholic School State Tournament last week. After defeating St. Elizabeth’s of Rochester and St. Catherine’s of Manchester in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

The St. Chris girls came up on the short end of a 27-24 contest in the finals, losing to St. Mary’s of Dover. Marie Laplante (12 points), Adeaze Okorie (6), Emma Williams (3) and Meredith Hall (2) led the scoring for St. Chris. Victoria D’Anthony contributed tough post play, while reserves Jackie O’Connell, Erika Dahl, Emily Moran, Isabelle Goselin, Izzy Piercy and Carina Davidson provided a spark off the bench.

Milford Christian wins Buzzard’s Bay tourney

The Milford Christian Academy boys were victorious in four straight games in the four-team Massachusetts Maritime Academy Tournament in Buzzard’s Bay, Mass. The team was marked by an outstanding defensive effort by playing an intense flexible help defense. The offense was anchored by senior co-captain Ryan Bourgeois, who averaged over 30 points per game. Completing the starting team were co-captain Dan Hartling, Shane Kershaw, Tim Pilcher and Luke Maillet. The team is 9-4 on the season, heading into the last week of games before the playoffs.

Girls Jr. Biddy Playoffs

Lakers 28, Celtics 16

The Lakers beat the Celtics 28-16 in a playoff-opening matchup. Emma Branquinho (8 points), Arianna Motivala (6) Alyssa Morril (4) and Marianna Gomez (4) paced the Lakers’ offense, while Taylor Ulery (2) and Danielle Upton (2) solidified the defense.

The Celtics’ offense was run by Ali Hastings (4) Jordan T (4) and Abby Bender, while Jamie Allard (2), Kierstien Cards (2) and Hannah Dobson controlled the C’s defense.

Boys Biddy

Lakers 52, Saints 40

The Lakers were led by Michael Jensen with 17 points, Ben Walker with 13 and Danny McCoy with 10. Strong defensive efforts were turned in by Jordan Delgado and Colin Malone. The Saints were led by Dylan Gamache with 12 points and Sean Dezurick with 7. Chris Fischer and Brian Dezurick were solid defensively.

Lakers 50, Globetrotters 21

The Lakers were led by Ben Walker with 16 points, Michael Jensen with 9 and Nick Bourbeau with 6. Danny McCoy and Anthony Yan turned in strong defensive efforts. The Trotters were paced by Brendan Barrett with 8 points and Sam McCarthy with 7.

Sonics 37, Braves 30

Alec Pressly scored 6 points and Michael Riley and Brian Inzerillo scored as well for the Sonics. Jeff Mitchell had 10 for the Braves and Will Popik added 5.

Sonics 33, Cougars 25

The Sonics were led by Christian Brenner with 8 points and Jeremy Ouellette with 7 points. Patrick Sullivan played tenacious defense. Peter Norcross led all scorers with 9 points for the Cougars, while Zach Milot and Dan Soler each added 4.

Stars 48, Knicks 44

Leading scores in this game were Chad Olivieri (19 points), Srishal Thada (17) and Patrick Carr (13), Devin Champagne (12) and Patrick Soucy (11).

Jazz 44, Braves 26

Twelve different players scored in a balanced attack led by Demitri Jackson’s 20 points for the Jazz. The Braves were led by Anthony Martin and Austin Rancourt with five points each. Jacob Goudreau and Josh Roy anchored the defense for the Jazz.

Bullets 36, Satellites 24

Alex Boudreau led the Bullets with 16 points. Shad Fowler added 6 points and Sam Nielsen chipped in with 5 points and 4 assists.

Cavaliers 42, Satellites 23

The Cavaliers where led by Tim Preston with 22 points and Chandler Doucette with 10, while Caine Rivera  and Mike Lentz each contributed with double-digit rebounds. The Satellites were led by Stephen Lambert and Max Better with 6 each.

Cavaliers 37, Pistons 17

The Cavaliers (16-0) beat the short-staffed Pistons. They where lead by Tim Preston with 20 and Chandler Doucette 8, while defensive standouts were Mike Muchemore and Martin Boegel. The Pistons were led by Andrew Dahl with 6.

Royals 42, Globetrotters 32

The Royals were led by Zavier Rumardo (10 points), Adam Buskey (9), Malik Langa (8), Kevin Genoa (6) and Kenny Jerez (4). The Trotters were led by Brendon Berrat and Sean McCarthy with 8 points each, while May Coffen (6), Pedro Campos (2), Brandon Gillis (2) and Ryan Porter (2) also added some offense in defeat.

Royals 35, Celtics 28

Both Kevin Genoa and Zavier Rumardo scored 10 points to lead the Royals, while teammates Adam Buskey (8 points), Alex Parrot (3), Kenny Jerez (2) and Malik Langa (2) chipped in offensively.

Pistons 34, Wilcats 16

Jaydon LaRose finished with a game-high 13 points for the Pistons, while James Bolton (9 points) and Andre Laplante (6) added to the Pistons’ offense. Geoffrey Lynch’s tough defense, quick steal and buzzer-beating layup made the Pistons fans go wild. Daniel Linton and Alonzo Linton scored five points each for the Wildcats.

Flyers 63, Kings 60

Shannon Martin scored 23 points (five 3-pointers), including the game-winner as time ran out, and Brendan Martin added 10 in the win. Ben Haycock and Trevor Shaw controlled the boards for the Flyers. Jeff Lunn’s 18 points led the Kings.
