Nashua 11-year-old D.J. Frechette and Londonderry 13-year-old Max Coleman carried over their hot shooting from the New Hampshire Southwest District event into the Plymouth High School gym last Sunday where they each won their respective age brackett in the 2010 New Hampshire State Elks Hoop Shoot free throw contest.

Frechette, the 10-11 Boys Champion, dropped in 21 of 25 free throws and Coleman, the 12-13 Boys champion, hit 22 of 25 for their wins.

Lucas Muncusken of Dover won the 8-9 Boys title.

In girls action, Nashua 10-year-old Isabel Dunning won runner-up honors as she was edged out by 10-11 Girls Champion Alyson Lizzotte of Claremont.

Nashua’s other two competing Southwest District Champions, 8-year-old Rita Dow and 13-year-old Teddi Starr-Kramer each finished in third place in their respective divisions with Casey Gallicchio of Plymouth winning the 8-9 Girls title and Brooke Salzarano of Lebanon winning the 12-13 Girls championship.

Following the awarding of Division Championship trophies, New Hampshire State Elks Hoop Shoot Director, Leo Lebel of Hudson, presented the coveted Harry Mullen Memorial Sharpshooter Trophy to the top boy shooter to Coleman.

New England Elks Regional Hoop Shoot Director Richard Blinn presented the coveted Fred Rheault Memorial Sharpshooter trophy for the top girl shooter to Salzarano.

New Hampshire’s six Hoop Shoot champions will now compete in the fourth level of Hoop Shoot competition against their counterparts from the other five New England States at the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Portland, Maine on March 27.

The Elks National Finals will take place in Springfield, Mass. in April with the National Hoop Shoot winners having their names inscribed in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
