Merrimack Legacy girls win MLK Tournament

The Merrimack Legacy fourth grade girls basketball team won all five of their games in the Hudson MLK Basketball Tournament. The girls were able to hold off a tough Londonderry team in the championship game. Team members are Sara Wozniak, Sabrina Johnson, Alex Dubois, Jenna Chambers, Olivia Kapsambelis, Molly Baulier, Mackenzie Francoeur, Courtney Schaub, Melanie Hopkins, Nicole Haney, coach Bob Johnson and assistant coach John Francoeur.

’Hawks fourth graders lose third straight contest

The fourth grade Nashua Nighthawks continue to play well despite dropping their third straight decision.

Nashua dropped a tough one to an unbeaten Bedford team. Leading the Nighthawks with their best team effort on the season was Scyler Boykins, Garrett Bieren, Mike Meads and Anthony Costa. John Champa led the way offensively with 12 points. Clay Medling chipped in with five points in a strong effort for Nashua’s big man. Jeffrey Reza, Xahn Frater, Nick Harrison and Tilak Patel also played strong offensively for Nashua. Nick Page pulled down five rebounds for the ’Hawks.

Nighthawks 7th-graders drop two

The seventh-grade Nighthawks lost two games over the weekend by a combined six points. Nashua lost to Wilmington (Mass.) 51-48 and Haverhill (Mass.) 58-55.

Even though the ’Hawks were outsized at every position against Wilmington, they managed to remain in the game right up to the final seconds. Mike Osgood and Matt Lavallee led Nashua with 11 points each. Mike Habibi and Alex Boudreau provided sparks off the bench with six points each. Also providing solid minutes off the bench was Jeremy Ouellette with four rebounds and two points. Josh Goulet and Christian Sullivan each finished with four points.

In the loss to Haverhill, Lavallee scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Sullivan was 3-of-6 from 3-point land and ended up with 13 points. Osgood (seven points), Drew Sheridan (four) and Ouellette (four) provided solid defense to keep the ’Hawks in the game.

Cavaliers 60, Eagles 26

Cavaliers Tim Preston led all scorers with 25 – 15 of those coming in the first quarter – while Chandler Doucette had 16 and Caine Rivera chipped in eight.

Defensive standouts where Martin Boegel and Preston, while Doucette grabbed double digit rebounds. Matt Lawyer led the scoring for the Eagles with eight.

Cavaliers 57, Lancers 19

Tim Preston led all scorers with 19 points, while Caine Rivera (10) and Ben Swain (6) added offense. Defensively, Dan Duckeshire and Mike Lentz stood out, while Chandler Doucette grabbed double-digit rebounds.

The Lancers where led by Ravi Patel and Harper Niven.
